You nailed it, Steve.

I was fortunate enough previously to have garnered one of (still) only two existing CGC 9.8's of that book; it is stupidly condition-sensitive, primarily due to chewed up and/or torn top and bottom spine corners. I went through a hella amount of copies to finally locate a NM/MT candidate. I'll likely not find another.

And, I was the second highest bidder on this copy that just sold, and I would've gladly paid more for it, but I was off-line for the majority of those books closing times. IMNSHO, this book should NEVER sell for less than right around $50 for a NM copy; a NM+ or better copy, drastically more so.

Regardless, I still ended up with six of ying's books, so we'll see what's what when I finally have 'em in-hand. I have to admit I'm a bit surprised I snagged the Shadowman #5 1:125; definitely expected that to go higher, but I'm definitely not complaining. Same on the A&A #25 1:50. Honestly, I absolutely hate that cover, but it's a *SQUEE*in' toughie to track down, let alone in premium grade, so again, not complaining. Guess I'll know for sure in about five or six days, so we'll see...
The problem with Ying's books is that he just sold several cgc 9.8's in December for top dollar. If any of these were close enough to being a 9.8, I feel he would have submitted them.
Either way, I won 2 of his books, but my bidding was based on them being a 9.2 or maybe a 9.4 :?
I am just happy some of the rare variants that I couldn't find at my local shop are finally come up on eBay.

These were advertised as 9.6-9.8. I bought a lot of 4 1:20 Archer variants. Let me say they are nowhere near 9.6. All of them have color-breaking spine splits and are creased in places. One is creased so badly on the back I think it's probably a 6.5. The best copy (#6) has 3 color breaking spine splits (1 is actually a hole).

I truly hope that other members who purchased from this guy are happier with the books. I know, I know, buyer beware. In this case, I calculated the risk on the fact that he has sold many graded books in the past. He has to know how to accurately grade. It's hard for me to believe that he wasn't aware of the condition, and while it might not have been malicious, at a minimum it might be willful negligence.

Needless to say, I won't be buying again.

I'm sorry to hear that, Steve...but I'm "kind of" not surprised, either. That lot of books were actually from jbr2107, correct? Either way, hate to sound like Captain Obvious here, but did you already contact him and request a refund, or some other kind of acceptable resolution?

Given your experience alone, I'm glad I didn't end up winning any of those books; I think I would've been seeing "red" right about now, if you follow.

Speaking of which, anyone (else) here NOT get the books they won from ying2288? And if you haven't (there's at least two other boardies...besides me  ...that haven't), has he maintained ANY kind of communication with you since you paid and/or LYK why your books haven't shipped?

That's correct Bloodshot, jbr2107. I'm waiting on one ying book - a 2nd chance offer.

Well, then, you should be glad to know that NO MATTER WHAT, you will be covered. It absolutely does NOT matter if a seller states "NO returns accepted"; eBay's Buyer Protection Plan is ALL about the buyer. You WILL receive a refund, if that's what you want. In your case, that's the ONLY thing I'd accept; a FULL refund (including return shipping).

Hey Guys,

I received a second chance offer on The X-O #25 1:50 Variant. It sold for $95 but was offered to me for $51.

I paid for it, and received it. Already submitted to CGC.

I paid $88.88 for mine, also by Second Chance Offer, and didn't get it. And, while we're at it, that's only one of 12 books I haven't received.

Further, whomever won the Divinity #1 1:40 LaRosa also never received their book, stating by way of a negative feedback (and I quote):

"Item never sent. Zero communication. Do not buy from this seller!!!!"

Oh, boy. I bought a Summer of Valiant 2nd chance offer for $55. Estimated delivery was supposed to be yesterday, but I'm not overly concerned yet. We are both in California, so shipping time shouldn't take too long. However, I ship very frequently and understand delays happen.

Just to be clear, I have not sent any kind of negative feedbacks his way on any of those books I haven't received. FWIW, (at this stage) I'm not interested in any kind of smear campaign against this guy. However, since tomorrow would make just shy of two weeks since I paid with NO communication until late last night, I requested refunds across the board for those 12 books. At this point I could care less why they weren't sent, nor that he stated they'd all ship "tomorrow". Again, once I paid, there was NO communication and NO books 'til last night. When someone's that care free (or care less) with $1300 of my hard-earned money, I couldn't give two sh!ts if each and every one of those books is a 9.9; I'd just as soon have my money back. To clarify: I am not trying to speak for ANYone else on here except myself and my experience; but completely legit or not, this was absolutely NOT worth the hassles I've had. Period.

Ed,

You know I don't doubt your word for one second, but can you LMK what specific date you actually paid him; the date he shipped (and/or provided a tracking number); and the date you received your book?

Trying to secure a "time-line" based on info I already have; that'd really help me to finalize.

TIA,

Hey Guys,

:!: facepalm facepalm facepalm facepalm facepalm facepalm facepalm facepalm facepalm facepalm facepalm

A little update. I went back and checked the details, I did submit some 1:50 #25, but the Ying book was not in them.
The statement said expected delivery January 16-20. It was never sent. I just received an email from Ying saying my book had shipped, but the tracking number is not found by the USPS. So very interesting developments, and think goodness Jay wanted the details, so I could see I am being hosed also. Like I stated earlier, I was offered this book as a second chance offer for $51 when it sold for $95.

Replacement book

This is the email I just received. Obviously outdated delivery date. Why does the message say replacement book?

Jay, would you post the details of your transaction along with any recent emails?

Thanks,

@Jay,

I picked up second chance books Harbinger Wars 3 Zircher and Shadowman 13 Davis. I have not received any communication from him, I sent a message asking for an update this morning. But after reading this, I will probably request a refund right when I get home.

Think he's pulling a scam with the second chance books?

Just started to the process, (selecting didn't receive item) stated that I think the seller is pulling a scam. I will probably contact eBay directly when I get home later tonight.

Just wanted to flag that I haven't yet heard from JBR regarding my refund request. He has until tomorrow to respond before I can request eBay to step in. I just don't understand it. I've always accepted returns. What's the big deal? Customer is unhappy (for whatever reason), just refund and relist. It's how I would want to be treated as a customer. What a crappy UX, as they say in the tech industry. Do unto others, and all that. The only possible reason I could think of not refunding is that you think you've taken advantage of a deal you won't be able to duplicate....

Woah, this is very surprising to hear. I also recently bought two books from him with second chance offers, but they have not arrived. I emailed him through eBay on Jan. 23rd asking if he'd shipped the books and he got back to me same day and said he'd been in the hospital, and assured me the books would go out the next day. I did get a tracking notification the following day and it does show the package is in transit (it arrived in San Diego today, Wed Jan 27th, according to the tracking info), so I expect I'll have it tomorrow.

I have ordered from Ying before with good results, so I had no reason to think he was pulling a scam. And it looks like my books are on their way so I'm not sure what's really going on here. I'll report back when/if I get my books, hopefully in the next day or two.

As far as his grading goes, I was satisfied with my previous order but never submitted that book to CGC, but it looked a 9.6-9.8 candidate to me. I sure hope this holds true for the two books that are supposedly on their way to me.

I figured the guy was busy or had an emergency. Heck, I was hit by a car when I was walking across the street 3 weeks ago. Stuff happens. Still, I don't like books swimming in a box.

Three Harbinger Wars and a Divinity received from Ying today, all in at least 9.6, IMO.

I received my two books today and Ying even threw in a freebie Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #1 White Preview book, which I didn't have. The two books I purchased (through second chance offers) are a Shadowman #13 1:50 (yes, I did just sell a CGC 9.8 of this book a couple of months ago on eBay, but now I'm employed again and rebuilding some of my collection) and a Harbinger #25 1:50 (which is an issue I was never able to find previously). I definitely think the Harby #25 is in 9.6-9.8 territory. The Shadowman is a bit lower -- could get a 9.6 but I'd guess more likely a 9.4. But it's still a very clean book. Overall I can't complain. I hope others are able to sort out their issues with Yang. He seems a legit guy based on my experiences ordering from him and it sounds like he did have some personal trouble that kept him from shipping his packages. Whether that explains or excuses the lack of communication with some of you, I don't know. I guess it depends how serious his situation was. But it seems he's trying to get things back on track.
