20 years ago this week, D.C. killed Superman and it made (real) world news.

He got better.

5 years ago, Marvel killed Captain America and it made (real) world news.

He got better.

All of these "events" are jokes in the long term.

In the short term there's money to be made selling to people who don't understand the long term.

I won't be buying any, now or ever. :P
My perspective, as well... except I'm hoping my entire order goes through this morning. :D

Well, I did say, In the short term there's money to be made selling to people who don't understand the long term.

Many quotes from P. T. Barnum apply here, so tell 'em to "Step right up!"

It seems like this is the story they should have saved for #700 if this is truly the direction they intend to take. I don't expect it to last more that a year, though.

Just flicked through it and if it is what I think then it really isn't that much. Seems like the start of a fun arc (and Spidey has been really good recently) but really not "news".

Pretty awesome, I thought. First time in a while I've put something on top of the Valiant books in my reading stack. But I'll be back to normal next month.

Yeah, it's not just the body switch. It sets up an interesting dynamic that you-know-who is now Spider-Man. You can do a lot with that. :thumb:

Also, that one page at the end of the story is down right creepy. And memorable.

This is so dumb. Not even that shocking (unexpected maybe, but "shocking? No). I mean, didnt they just kill Peter Parker a few months ago in Ultimate Spidey?

And as Greg said, long term this means absolutely nothing because there will be another Spidey movie starring a guy playing Peter Parker. They had a whole "event" surrounding what turned out to be a Black Nick Fury created to match the movie. He's now on a team with Agent Colson for :censored: sake...And a "new" Spiderman starring in the title? You mean like Ben Riley or Miguel Whatever? If there is anyone out there who thinks this will have "long-lasting implications," I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell them.

This is why Marvel and DC blow. VEI books blow anything they have out of the water.

I just read through 695 through 698 to get caught up. It's a good story and that's what I want out of my comics. This issue in particular was very well-written after you know what happens.

People are going to complain because that's what people do. We all know that things will go back to the way they were at some point so why lose sleep over it? Enjoy the ride to get there.

If people are looking to buy copies for speculation, I'd advise against it. I don't think this is really going to be big news or anything. Just a cool story.

I agree. If it's a cool story, then I don't care if it has lasting implications, changes the mythos, or something else entirely. I just want to read good stories. This sounds cool and I am going to pick it up. I'm not going to go on ebay and pay more than cover price for it however.

The marketing declarations are just that. Declarations. They are intended to sell books. We should actually be glad these guys hype these things up and get the sales numbers they do. If the sales numbers are up on our favorite titles, then the top notch talent stays on those titles. Everybody wins.

Just got my copy of 698 (My LCS had to reorder it) I've gotta say, not too much earth shattering in the issue. Really, the whole thing was kind of a filler issue until the switch at the end. Although it did appear that Ock's body died after the switch.

Although I don't think that's right since all the interviews Slott has been giving point to Peter living in Ock's body while Ock is doing whatever he is going to do in the body of Spider-Man. I guess I will just have to wait until 699 to find out what happens next!

It's been a while since i read Spider-Man so this better be a good reason to come back!

The 'filler' stuff early in the issue was all there to show you he was already Ock, I went back and reread it and some of the earlier happenings are very clever and cool looking (particularly Peter in the lab with Otto style glasses and coat).

You know that thought did kind of cross my mind when I read it since I already knew what the "big development" was supposed to be. I think that if it does turn out that Ock already possessed him, then issue 600 might suddenly become really hot. Because I bet that will turn out to be when he did it.

That would definately have ramifications for issue 600. :hm:
