New Dark Horse Magnus Series?

That kind of number scheme has bugged me ever since John Byrne's Next Men. It started with #19. Although it was officially #19 of the ongoing series, the cover numbering and the solicitation tried to make it look like a new #1 and listed it as "John Byrne's Next Men: Faith #1." As soon as the four issue "Faith" series was over, we had another new #1 with the "Power" storyline, although it was really #23.

I hated that then, and I'll hate it if they do something like that now. But I'll still buy it.

I hated that as well. I REALLY got fed up with that crap with IDW's Transformers series of mini-series.

I would say it isn't going to attract new readers, and people like me that may be interested in a given title are turned off by not knowing what order the stories happened without resorting to publish date and even that I wouldn't have much confidence in if I were new to a title. Some books I can see it, Indiana Jone for example, the stories don't really need to be connected, as the character is already a known property that isn't going to change much. I just want more than that from this relaunch.

Well, yeah there are some definate arguements against the "ongoing series as a series of miniseries format" but I think the arguement is acedemic in this case. When asked about the solititations, Shooter said Magnus was ongoing. Unless every interview and panel discussion given on these titles is wrong, they are going to be ongoing series released on a regular schedule (apparently every 6 weeks).

You can see the final covers of Solar #1 on the Dark Horse site and it's not labled as a miniseries on the cover.

Obviously anything's possible but it wouldn't make it ANY sense for them to put out the other titles (which they keep lumping together with Solar in the solicitations and the press) in a different format if they're all ongoing.

I can't find a single interview or news article on this line that mentions miniseries. The only mention of the word is in some solitications (though not all) of the first two issues of Magnus and in a soliciation for the Turok hardcover, which says Turok will get a mini in October.

In a week or two they'll have the final Magnus cover up and we can end the guessing I suppose.

Well since everyone involved with the project from Mike Richardson to Jim Shooter have said their ongoing series I think it's safe to say there will be no lag time between minis, if they do decide to label them as minis. Like I said Dark Horse been doing an ongoing series of miniseries with BPRD set in a interconnected universe of titles (with Hellboy, etc) for years now so I'm not real worried about it.

I just hope it's not a game with semantics...with or without lag time.
