Tis true, but think he said they asked him to write a few bits, not a script for a new book or anything.Knightt wrote:Sacal posting he worked on a character for VEI does not mean that he was hired to do so or even asked. Here is my prediction for the 2011 VEI update.
Nothing will come out.
However, Dino and/or Jason will show up to one of the gatherings at either San Diego or NY and will feed the attendees loads of BS. Some of the attendees will gobble up the BS with sporks as if it was mint chocolate chip ice cream given to them by golden gods.
Others who are not so quick to eat a load of manure will report back objectively and will reveal that nothing is really happening other than more mistakes were made by a few spoiled kids who are still in over their heads.
VEI rules!

Nanny-nanny-boo-boo.

Honestly, I actually want them to put something out. Not because I want product or I think it will be good...... I actually want them to put something out so I can laugh when their crap flops.

I am always hoping that 'fans' will not accept just any old line that VEI ever puts out . I think that there are folks out there that are so desperate for new Valiant material that they will gladly accept ANYTHING that VEI puts out and claim 'finally'. It could be a stick of dog$#It and have Bloodshot or XO on it and it would be a godsend.
I think that what 400 is saying about the two different kind of folks could be right. I don't know if it will be at this years Con or the next but I am still of the mindset where I would like to SEE something before I can claim 'finally'.
We are a difficult set of folks to begin with in regards to Valiant... I am doing my best not to compare here, but we now have Jim Shooter writing books again and people still complain. The magic of Valiant is what what it is... A thing of the past and will not come close to being 'that' again in the future. There will still be complaints as many of us have set the bar SO HIGH, we may not be able to feel that way again.
Take it for what it is, do NOT compare it against the former Valiant produced and take it from there. The current Valiant crew is not the crew of years gone by and do not have their skill sets... If they can do better, good on them. If not, then go figure.
I love the books from the past but they are in the past. Go read them... Enjoy them. But do not set yourselves up for failure thinking they will be as good as back then. Again TRYING not to compare but the DH Solar, Magnus, and Turok are not living up to everyone's hope either... They are different because I do not think that we are going to have that magic again.
My biggest beef has been the feeling of alienation from the new crew. A former board member (in concert) purchases the rights to the very books we hold dear and then... Nothing much. No fan support for a group of men who have been carrying torches for Valiant for many years. If it was me, I could find it in my 'busy schedule' to give a monthly update or words to the masses. If I have learned anything throughout my years in the Army as a leader it is that you can keep your troops happy by at least talking to them, keeping them informed and keeping their morale up. VEI has failed in that area. I think that it could have at delayed so much of this VEI bashing.
I hope great things will come from them in the future but they are not preparing the battlefield in my opinion.

I used to think I would (if I was the owner) give info online to the forum. But over time I think Dino has done the right thing. I mean 400 wants ve1 to flop now?? and make poor comics so he can laugh at them.
Imagine giving out info on all the stuff over the years ~ then things fall through etc etc. It would be demoralising enough, yet to be shot down every time online ~ with 100's of experts with amazing hindsight.
They want a good product to launch. Most likely attached to a movie? I don't know. But to put out anything average, will be shot down by everyone. Knightt is right ~ to read it, is to read the new charactors ~without the 'good old days' , and how nothing is as good as it was.
If you want big money, you don't play with pennies. And from what I see of current print runs of titles, they would get what $1000 profit / $2500?. Look at the sales figures of the Jim Shooter Dark key line.
If it was attached to a movie launch mybe the print run could be 50,000? WIth the same outlay ~ so the comic would bring much higher return on the same investment. Plus thge sale of movie rights.
Sobber Fletch rant.

Agreed. I don't think they should say anything either. Online or otherwise until they actually have something.Phantom.. wrote: I used to think I would (if I was the owner) give info online to the forum. But over time I think Dino has done the right thing.
Several reasons for this:Phantom.. wrote:I mean 400 wants ve1 to flop now?? and make poor comics so he can laugh at them.
1. As I re-read through VH1, I realize that I don't care to read about new versions of these characters. Nor do I really care to read continuations of their stories. When you consider that the initial outlay was $1M and they've spent more in legal fees, they over-paid big time for this group of properties, IMO.
I just don't see how this stuff is viable in any form when you consider the money we know that they've spent on this stuff. They aren't going to make money off of comics. After watching the Dark Key line flounder with Jim Shooter, I'm 95% certain of that. It's not the time to launch a new comic publisher at all and honestly, I'm not certain there ever will be a time again. I don't see a renaissance of comics in the future. Do you?
So that means that they need to make money off of movies. That means that actual movies have to be made and be successful. Not all that likely.
2. I still don't think I've heard anything positive about Dino and VEI. All I've heard is that creators had a hard time of getting paid and weren't treated that well. I don't like shysters. VEI seems like shysters to me.
3. A bit of jealousy, I guess. If I was given a million+ bucks to blow, I certainly wouldn't have blown it on this stuff.
Damn, you are optomistic. Movies don't translate to comic sales unless you are talking about one of the huge characters like Spidy or Iron Man and even then, I seriously doubt it's a 50K bump in sales.Phantom.. wrote:If it was attached to a movie launch mybe the print run could be 50,000?

I agree that this isnt the right time to launch. Unfortunately, I dont think it will get any better
Yes, wait for a movie.. maybe a TV series? Not sure...
It would be neat to own these characters and stories.. but Id do something with my million if I had it
I hope it works out in the end.. but nothing will replace that fun ride we had back in the 90'!

So, to clarify; firstly, whatever I've ever said in public about the work I did for VEI was with complete, absolute, and total prior approval from Dinesh.
Secondly, all the work I did for them was on a work for hire basis for which I was paid a freelance fee.

Truth be told, though, I haven't compared what I did against what appeared in the comic, so I cannot say for certain that they used what I did.
I can say for certain that at least two ideas of mine made it to the printed page:
One was Mary-Maria giving Archer his journal in Archer & Armstrong #1 and the other was Aric grabbing a piece of broken sword with which to break free of his bonds in X-O Manowar #1.
I may have also suggested including Gilad in X-O #1 on account of their animosity in VH 1, but I don't recall.
