good find. my recent favorite finds are a buttload of various ASM, daredevils and uncanny xmen from the 70s. all in great shape. i always wonder why they put those in there. last time i spent 20 bucks in the quarter bin and probably got atleast 200 bucks worth of books. they must have so many of these issues already. never really made sense to me.Xero wrote:yesterday I picked Up Magnus #5 out of the Quarter Bin. It's my guess that the short box it was in (underneath the quarter-bin-table-thingy) wasn't sortted all the way through yet, cause I got a desent copy of Invaders #10, and Super Friends #1
and a couple months ago i found 10 yes 10 Superman 75 still in bag. would you really put those in there if you had them. i know they are worth nothing now, but come on. guess i cant complain i snatched them all.
oops wandering...
back to valiant. i also have first dibs to any valiant/acclaim that comes through my LCS.
joy and jubilee
i've noticed that owners really don't care about the valiants anymore. when i ask about valiants they always snicker and smirk to themselves. makes me want to poop on their faces.

I wonder how many of these calls the owners get each week?
And then the guys dont show. Or if they did, what if they didnt get anything? Prob a lot. They would prob do it for a customer that had a monthly pull. You know you'd take care of the steady customers.
They have to figure a way to either;
1, bring some people in once in a while to sell off old stock,
2, treat people well enough to get them to be monthly guys.
3, 1 and 2

To become a customer you must first be treated like a human, not a sale - being treated like a sale ranks down there with having a pigeon *SQUEE* on your head while in the park eating an ice cream cone, which, in turn, falls on the pavement much to your demise. Customer service is being the ice cream man that saw it and offered me a new cone, some napkins, and a little bit of hope that the day ahead will be a little better.putz wrote:I wonder how many of these calls the owners get each week?

A simple, 'I am busy but check back tomorrow and I'll see what I can do' would have sufficed.

I agree he should have responded differently, maybe a little nicer.
But then, I dont think he was to excited about bringing up a couple of boxes, finding a number and calling you for say 5-10 bucks if you liked the comics.
He wants you to come in every once in a while to see if he's added more.
That way, you might see something else you like.

i wouldn't do it. the ones i've ran into, some were in good shap,e some are not. but besides the few first issues i've seen them for 4-20 bucks. depends on the grade, unless thats the only one you can get your hands on. then i'm sure there is worse you could spend money on. like crack and three legged call girls.Xero wrote:at my local flea Market, the guy's selling a copy of Doctor Solar: Man of The Atom #22, for $20, I think I might be able to get up to $5 off, but is it worth it? It'd be great to have an original solor, and in really nice condition at that, but $15-$20 is steep for me on any comic.

I think you can do a lot better on ebay. Unless that flea markt copy is VF+/NM.Xero wrote:at my local flea Market, the guy's selling a copy of Doctor Solar: Man of The Atom #22, for $20, I think I might be able to get up to $5 off, but is it worth it? Something just resonates with me...
I've been talking to a buddy who has a shop for advice about starting a small business myself. He keeps saying he doesn't understand why someone would "rent the space" for books for years and not try to turn over stuff. I'd think they'd be glad to have room for things that would ACTUALLY make them more money. Just a thought I wanted to share.

Large retail corporations have rates of turnover down to a science. It's not even funny how much they quantify all that and set goals.whovianone wrote:Something just resonates with me...

I think those goals are pulled out of a baboon's red *SQUEE*, but that's just my theory on things.

Capital City Comics in Madison, WI has a great selection of quarter Valiant books, and it's restocked rather frequently. I get in there maybe once every three or four months, whenever I'm in Madison overnight for business. True, most of the books in their piles are middle-period Valiant, but you can find some real gems if you get in there at the right time. In the past I have found:
Shadowman #0 Gold
Signed X-O #0
Last three issues of X-O
Last two issues of Magnus
Solar #10 (First print)
Harbinger #0 (Blue and Pink)
