When I said Auction, I was actually thinking raffle (thus my comments about the tickets). I think that raffles generally get more money than auctions, because with an auction, once the bidding reaches a certain point, the number of bidders drops. While with an auction, the amount of money you are willing to spend just indicates the number of tickets you are willing to buy.

a raffle is a great idea...but it would need to be registered with the state that it was officially being held in (that's usually cheap...in wisconsin I think it's like $25)...but it could be a great way to help provide funding for the site...

Why does it need to be registered? Can't we just raffle off a number of items on our own?

It probably has something to do with each states gambling laws. I know that some states consider raffles games of chance as well as other common fund raising methods such as a key drop or "cow drop" which I recently saw. I think that a cow drop is more in time with Arkansas...You see with a cow drop you section off a larger area. Each person buys up sections for a set price. Each person can enter as many times as they like by buying as many sections as they like. Then you allow a cow to wander around the area. When the cow feels nature's call and "drops" his load the winner is whoever bought that square that the load lands in. If it lands on the line the load is weighed and the side with the most "load" wins. Sounds like fun huh..well at least in Arkansas it would be fun.

If it's value is under a certain amount it doesn't...if the value exceeds that certain amount, you can have IRS problems...It's more of a CYA formality than anything...

How many IRS goons are lurking around our board anyway?

P.S.
(Hell there are a few goons, but none associated with the IRS that I know of)

P.P.S.
(and the freak chance there is a person here employeed by the IRS, I didn't mean you, others, but not you. Trust me you are alright by me due to your freakish valiant fixation we all feed on and with you.)

I've been lurking around in the dark corners on this site for well over a year now. I must say I'm simply amazed by all the content and info. I don't think most major comic book companies know this much about themselves! Greg, I don't know what in the world possessed you to create and keep up with this resource, but you're one in a million (literally, if you count all the Valiant fans, past and present). I know for a fact that I wouldn;t be avidly collecting Valiant again if it hadn't been for this site, and I'm sure I'm only one of many collectors who feel that way.

Here's to (at least) five more!

Congratulations on the anniversary, Greg! I found this site back in the fall of 2002 and have had a lot of fun hunting out rare Valiants since then. Visiting this site not only renewed my love for Valiant, but also for comics in general. At the time, I was only collecting one new book a month, now I'm up to probably at least ten titles. Keep up the good work!

Somebody should notify Jim Shooter and let him know about the aniversary. Then get him to sign some comics for us for a special 'Jim Shooter' VcVSS!

Anyways congrats Greg!

Any predictions for the next five years?

Since I've decided to be more active on the boards, I'll add my congrats on this site's anniversary Greg. Great job!

This site is the reason I'm back into comics, Valiant to be more specific. About a year ago, during a move, I was carrying my comic books, which I hadn't looked at in 10 years, to my new residence when a thought entered my head. I wondered what my valiants, and IH #181 for that matter, were worth after all this time? I punched Valiant comics into google, and the rest is history. Since then, I've doubled the size of my original Valiant collection and have thoroughly enjoyed this site.

Sorry if I bored everyone, but it was fun to think about.

This is kinda freaky...

I just opened Chaos Effect Alpha and read the first page...
June 21st, 1994...

"Can you feel it?"
"Something incredible is about to occur.
And we have been chosen to be its witnesses."

ValiantComics.com "went live" on June 21st, 1999.

So nothing ever came of the idea to raffle off some stuff to support ValiantComics.com?
