ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:[Selling items AT COST and doing all the labor FOR FREE is NOT...repeat NOT...'charging money'. I'm sure even you can understand this VERY SIMPLE concept.
Well, it is still charging money, since the monetary transaction is taking place. It is just charging the person for the costs, not for a profit. There *is* a cost assocaited that is charged to each of the owners.

Having said that, it is still a voluntary project for which Dino is receiving NO compensation. As such, it should probably have a rather low priority on his list of things to do, since this is for a hobby, for fun, and there is no benefit to him. The fact that he seems to be bending over backwards to get this done asap is merely a credit to him.

Which, of course, is what I think pretty much everyone is saying. :)

Hi Dino. I just wanted to thank you for making this 1st VcVSS project possible! I realize it took a lot of time & was a lot of trouble. You had a fantastic idea with this book. It's added to the fun that makes collecting Valiants special.

My #36 arrived in the mail today. As each person who bought a book receives it, I know that they will enjoy their's as much as I do.

Thanks again to you and everyone else involved in the VcVSS project!

I also forgot to post the arrival of my beautifully done #31! Wow, I'm a poet and didn't know it.

Dino, Greg, Bob, Janet and anyone else involved, Thanks!

BTW, this is my first Magnus #0. A great story I finally have the chance to read.

BBTW, Dino, you did a great job pulling this project off. I'm sure it wasn't easy at times, but know you are appreciated.

DINO! You da man!

I received your package this afternoon. I am very pleased with my #5/40.

It does have two minor defects: a tiny corner bump on the upper left, & a tiny spine dent about midway down. Both defects are very minor.

All other corners are sharp. The spine is sharp & tight. Book is very flat & very glossy. The sigs look good. Bob's pen was running out of ink, it seems. I'd grade this at a 9.6. Easy.

It is almost perfect.

This one had to be one of the better ones in the box. Plus it survived being shipped across the country at least 3 times!

The certificate is outstanding!

All in all, you can count me in on all future projects! I'm a happy camper!

Major thanks to Bob, Janet, Dino, & Greg, plus everyone who has supported this project from the beginning!

Especially Dino, who made a dream I had come true!

YOU ARE DA MAN! Period!

Cheers to all! Ooo-Rah!:)

Steve, yours was one of the nicer ones. It was strange but the worst ones were #1,2, the middle teens and the very last two books. Nonetheless yours was nicer then most.

Zwh, its worth the wait man. I'll be back as soon as I can....maybe I'll even snag you some Hong Kong booty;)

dino wrote:phew...just got done reading all the new posts on this thread. First off the 1st VcVSS is a fan project not a business. Second, I did make a number of mistakes in the organization of this project. I should have been more clear in my emails to Bob, I should have had a list of emails and kept everyone up to date that way etc.

Unknown, sorry man I dont think I had time to post yours before my flight on Saturday. I will be back around the 25th of August and will get the rest of the books sent out the day I get back. If you want a refund I will provide one, if you want to sell your copy to someone else let me know and I can send it to them instead. There was no favouritism involved in the way the books were sent out. It was really just the way I pulled them out of the box.

No one made any money of these books. Jayjay and Bob both signed for free. Bob agreed to as part of the sale and Jayjay did because she is just cool that way. With the extra shipping I'm down about $60 with these books but I did fix so I got a free copy:)

I am 100% certain that the next VcVSS will go much more smoothly and the one after that will be even better etc. Thanks wrunow, dbest4u, sound, steve, x-o, arch, knightt, dawg and eric for answering questions and sticking up for me while I was gone. I just bought a new computer for my parents so I'll be online pretty often now to answer questions.
:) Hey Dino,

I just got back from vacation today. And I can assure you that I did not once think or worry about my VcVSS copy. It's still not here today, but that's no big deal. I have been collecting for longer than some of you are old  :o The one thing I've learned is that patience is one, if not the, most important virtues you can have in collecting.

Take your time in mailing mine, Dino. I don't care if mine is the last one shipped out. You have done all of us a huge favor at a great deal of personal expense. I, for one, am very grateful, and can wait out any problems that have occured. Take care, enjoy your vacation :) Your vacation is a whole lot more important than trying to console a few whiny-*SQUEE* cry-babies. :P

WHOO HOO! #23 arrived yesterday, I would have posted except I was out of town for a family reunion. Went better this year, no racial jokes!

The book looks fabulous! Glossy as can be, no surface marring, no spine creases, tight corners, two nice signatures and one hell of a COA. Greg you did a sweet job on that! Overall the condition is as nice I've got. THANK YOU DINO!!!

I'm especially glad you did this project when you did because it would probably cost twice as much if we did it today.

Who's gonna be the first to post theirs on Ebay?

EDIT: PIC

Hey can any of you guys post a full high res scan of their copy so I drool over it? :D (no joke)

Also, those should be CGC'd. I have seen some with the COA in the slabs.

Ya, for un-authenticated signed books (including vvss), they will recieve a "qualified" grade from cgc. The green label.

To my knowledge, CGC has never (and will not) encapsulate anything with a COA inside. If you know different, please post scans.

Eric is right about the COA for current slabbed comics (slabed with the green lables). I've seen a couple of current CGC auctions with the COA in slab on the back side. Unfortunately I did not tag or remember the auction id.

However the older blue labeled slabs has had comics with COA. See the attached link. It is the SPIDERMAN #1 AUTHENTIX with the COA you can see it behind the comic book on the back side (light brown paper). However they did not scan the back side of the slab (not good proof but its the best i could find).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... otohosting

If i run across better scans of slabbed COA-COMICS, I'll post the links in our CGC forum.

On another note, CGG (the less respected graders) will slab any comic that comes with COA (i'm not sure how they label or address the COA); you just have to make a request as to were the COA needs to go, the front the back or inside the book (duh! :P ).

That is very interesting. The cert is because of a limited cover. The cert with the VVSS is because of the autographs. I know someone had a VVSS CGC'd and they didn't put the COA with it, and if fact didn't even acknowledge that the autographs were valid. I wonder if this has anything to do with them wanting to promote their own signature series books?

Unless something has changed at CGC (which I don't think it has),
COAs are not included in the slabs.

HOWEVER...

The "outer slab" that holds the "inner well" (holding the comic) is not sealed.
It has tamper-evident posts in the corners to show if it's been opened,
but it is not sealed along the edges. So, if anyone wanted to slide a COA
into the CGC outer holder... between the outer-plastic and the inner-Barex,
it could easily be done.

COAs are not included by CGC, but they may be "put there" later.

As far as I can tell, comics which are not signed on the cover (front or back),
but are signed on the first page can still receive the Blue Label.
Comics signed on the cover should receive a Green Label unless:
A) They are signed in the presence of CGC... they get a Yellow Label
B) The signature is on a lower graded book where "writing" is not a problem.

All of the VVSS books would receive a Green Label because they are
either signed on the cover and/or they have an embossing.

When I got my X-O 1/2 gold back, they put the COA in a sleeve.
