I'm excited about it too :) I think the idea of a book where characters pop into and out of it again from time to time is going to make for a really entertaining read :)

And that is maybe the best reason to be using this title in this way. It has name recognition, but as long as it isn't cheesing off more old school fans than what it brings in from new VEI fans, then it's a successful endeavor I would guess. In the short term at least. Long term we'll have to see how it goes.

I'm not too resentful of them using the title in this way as trying to shoehorn in a crossover event of the same type would've been very cheesy as well it seems to me. I wish them luck and I'll be buying it (but not any variant covers sadly, just can't afford any of them anymore).

I totally see what you're saying, but I think it'd take some *really* pernickety, stuffy Valiant 'fans' to get that upset over the new Unity I think. It's totally fine if people love the old Unity: Go pull those comics out the pullbox, and read 'em through again, why not. But if people are *so* stuck in nostalgia that they can't accept the idea of something new that uses a pre-existing title, then they really ought to stay locked in their basement with their old comics! (No danger of this applying to swtor1091! )

Like you say, as long as the new Unity pleases the right number of current Valiant fans and pulls in a whole boatload of new ones, then it has to be deemed a success :D We can only hope eh?

I'm almost certain that if Valiant had used the Unity title for another crossover event, and not something different, they would have received all sorts of negative flack across the board (the board as in the colloquialism, not the valiantfans board  ) for rehashing old ideas and not coming up with something new even though the content would of course be new. There would likely be people who at least gave it a fair chance, but I think Valiant management must have realised this, and decided to take the safer path and do something completely new with the title instead of trying to do something familiar with it.

Dino promised something that has never been done in comics before, and I have no reason not to trust him. However, if this is just the tired team-book concept trying to capitalize on Unity, then I'll have lost some respect for VEI.
I understand what you're saying and agree somewhat. However, that being said, trying to recapture the magic of the original Unity with a similar universe-wide crossover would only end in complaints that it wasn't as good or was a rehash of the original idea, etc.

VEI has this IP, and they want to put it to work. So while the idea of a rotating team book may be "tired" to us jaded fans, what else could they do with it? I'm willing to live with it. We'll get all that same Unity goodness out of the company, but it will just come in different forms as we're seeing with the events of AA, etc.
Well said. :thumb:

Agreed about the effectively no-win position: re-tread and get criticized by some; appropriate the name for something else and get criticized by some others. They are walking a difficult line, which I have been very pleasantly surprised they have navigated pretty well.

The concepts and trademarks have been paid for, so it would be remiss not to draw upon them in some way. Who knows, even names like Chaos Effect may actually have some positive value in them...

But at least the spotty release schedule of the Extreme family of books is back intact. :)

This Unity appears to be a crossover event, the title referring to one of the line's antagonists' attempt to clean up the mess one of the line's protagonists made.

I've seen nothing official saying Unity is going to be the name of a team. Did I miss that?

Maybe this will be Harada's title, as he uses his influence to shape the world to his own ends. (It would free up Harbinger to focus on the Renegades alone.) However, if it will indeed be something we haven't seen before in comics, we've already had a man-with-a-mustache-organizes-a-rotating-team-of-super-powdered-individuals title with Marvel's Secret Defenders.

Either way, I don't like the idea of Ninjak as part of a team. Unless he's getting a regular paycheck. Same goes with EW (minus the paycheck).
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

+1 - that was awesome! Best joke ever to take advantage of an unfortunate auto-correct incident!

Really makes you wonder why a guy with a moustache wants a rotating cast of super powdered individuals on hand! :hm:

I've been letting the title "Unity" sink in and it doesn't seem as "wrong" to me as it did before... It's growing on me.

Is this quite possibly THE book that will be most anticipated, and therefore have the greatest expectations, even though it is its 'own thing'?

Well, it IS the first new concept VEI has done in their lineup. I mean new compared to something Valiant did in the past of course, because others have done Super Team books. But all of their current titles we know of are reimaginings (of greater or lesser differentiation) of previous titles/characters.

For me at least, it isn't the most anticipated BECAUSE it is a new thing and not something I can predict based on what came before. I do have high expectations for the book, but I've had high expectations for everything coming out of VEI and I haven't been dissapointed yet. Except a little bit with Shadowman. Still hoping it can grow strong and live up to my expectations though. :hope:

And as for that Crain cover being used as an XO cover and not a Unity cover... Such a shame! I can only hope perhaps that it ends up gracing the cover of the first Unity TPB. Such fantastic art, and in my opinion, easily the best cover Valiant have put out so far across all lines. I'm always amazed by Crain's covers though :D
Never fear ... Crain also doing a cover for Unity #1 !

I like the X-O cover better ... but this one has more of a iconic 1st issue feel to it with all the characters looking very heroic
This cover also has Aric fighting with the Unity team....some foreshadowing perhaps?

Either the Russians have salvaged some tech from the Vine fleet debris, or I was thinking at first they looked a lot like the medical pods Harada was selling.

I thought they were medbots at first too, but it may well be a Wolf-class armor. I hadn't remembered that is what they looked like in the new version.

Did Aric bring back Wolf and Commando class armours from Loam?

When he left he was pretty much their ruler, would he not be well equipped? Is he still in contact with Vine on Loam? I would think so and if that's the case he should be able to order up a squad of Commando armours for his peeps no problem :hm:

What if the new Armorines is a squad of Aric's Visigoths in Commando Armour?
