I guess that's one way to look at it.TKWill wrote:Turn that frown upside down. Just think in the 90s you would have been upset to have found newsstands editions in your collection.Rufusharley wrote:So i went through my whole collection looking for newsstands and found not a one.![]()
I thought i'd find one or two atleast out of the whole lot.

They're too damn hard to find.
I just buy them when I run across them.
Uncanny #339 is an example.

If I'm not mistaken....and I don't think I am....there are price variants for ALL X-Men issues from #316-360, starting with the silly "Phalanx Covenant" and all the way up until 1998 (?)
I could be totally wrong, and completely off, but I'm in the ballpark.
Remember in 1994, when X-Men and Uncanny (and Wolvie and X-Factor and X-Force and etc etc etc) went "deluxe"? Remember that the deluxes were $1.95, while the newsstands were still $1.50? That continued, I'm fairly certain, until 1997-1998.
The first "deluxe" Uncanny was #318. There's a $1.50 newsstand variant of that. I THINK the newsstand variants continued up until #321, at which point there was the break for Age of Apocalypse, then there may not have been newsstand price variants until the 330's. I THINK, though, there may be price variants up to #325.
I'm totally making this up as I go along, and further research is most DEFINITELY needed.
Now listen....I don't collect price variants of 90's Marvels (as of now), so any I find I may be willing to pass on to you. I will DEFINITELY keep an eye out for you for when I run across duplicates...okey doke?
I'm surprised you didn't know about these.

Nice haul!Rufusharley wrote:Just went by 3 LCS near here. I got a decent Bloodshot 51 at the first, nothing at the second, and scored at the third : a Harby 1 for $3, ....and my first newsstands! :
X-O # 43 (yes, with the price difference), 44, and 48
&
Bloodshot # 42
(something new to complete!......*sigh*
)
Updated the master list with X-O 48.

Depending on the print run difference between each print run.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:It may just be that Valiant had their head shoved so far up their rears at this point that no one was paying attention to prices......that would be my guess.mrwoogieman wrote:It could be awhile (or never) until another one of these potential price variants shows up from the potential list of candidates.
The list is based on the premise that direct sales books priced at $2.25 may have newsstand counterparts priced at $2.50, however, that has already been proven faulty with respect to at least one potential candidate, the Bloodshot 33 which is $2.25 for both versions.
It may very well be the case that Valiant started putting direct sales UPCs on their books prior to actually producing any newsstand versions which would mean no other books will surface.
Based upon what we've found so far, I would say the most likely additional candidates would be
Bloodshot 29
Solar 45

Maybe in twenty five years it might matter.

Yes I do know about Uncanny 316 - 323 regular editions priced at $1.50. At that time, Marvel was testing out the market to see which format was in more demand and the mass has chosen the deluxe. Both the deluxe and regular editions were sold in comics stores simultaneously. It's the issues after the AofA that I didn't know about because those were sold purely in the newsstands which I don't get my books from. Also Comicspriceguide.com don't mention them at all which is where I get the list of variants from (excluding the pence copies and MJ inserts). Anyways please do save the newsstand price variant copies for me as I will need to start researching and hunting them down.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Good luck.Escaflown4 wrote:Oh great...I collect Uncanny and all the variants associated with the title. Well, you know what I think about Comicsoverpriceguide.com.....Also Comicspriceguide.com don't mention them at all which is where I get the list of variants from (excluding the pence copies and MJ inserts).

I will try to find at least one Marvel book from every month between Uncanny #325 and Uncanny #360 which is a newsstand. I don't have them in front of me at the moment, or I could tell you exactly when the DIRECT copies went to $1.99 (I'm thinking....July 98?), but....wait, hold on...Anyways please do save the newsstand price variant copies for me as I will need to start researching and hunting them down.
<at this point, Zeph goes to dig through some boxes really quick>
.....
Ok, I'm back. I found it. This makes perfect sense, too. Marvels went from $1.95 cover price to $1.99 cover price for DIRECT editions between July and August 1997....so, the -1 issues of July 97, which most Marvels had, were $1.95, and the LAST $1.95 issues for regular comics. With the August cover date, Directs were al $1.99.
So...
For Uncanny, that would mean there are likely $1.99 newsstand variants from #326-345, MAYBE -1? Maybe #325 even has a $3.99 variant?
X-Men would be #46 (?)-65.
And corresponding.
