So VEI heard my call for a new voice on Unity and said, "OK, here you *SQUEE* go, jack *SQUEE*. Happy now?"
No. No, I am not happy now.

So Unity's done then probably. Seems to be a small pattern on some of the books where the writer books before the 25th issue comes back does a short story type thing and then the title is over.

The funny thing is when Asus announced this at the panel just now he pretty much said that's probably what a lot of people are thinking.

UPDATE: Kindt will return after the two-part stint for an oversized issue #25 celebration. Asmus said there will be many collaborators on that book.

#25s are always oversized like that, even when its not a final issue
and i think asmus unity will be at least entertaining, more than can be said for kindts snorefest of a run

Re: James Asmus to write Unity 23-24
In all fairness, I am all for a comedy version of a book from time to time. But that's usually as a back up or a one-off. I really enjoyed those Justin Jordan back ups in the #25 issues for example. And this would make sense for a story in Unity #25.
2 full issues worries me, however.
I would fully support an end to Unity at #25. That will occur shortly after BoD wraps, and with Ninjak and EW both having ongoing titles at that point, they could easily shelve the title or relaunch it as "Unity 2.0" and/or "Secret Weapons" (see my "What I'd like to see in VEI team books and beyond" thread).
With Darque's return, I'd love to see a supernatural team book like Secret Weapons. EW, Mirage, Shadowman, Roku and several other characters all have supernatural ties at this point. Livewire, Gin-GR, XO, Malgam, Divinity and others could make up a separate Unity 2.0 team to deal with cosmic and Sci-Fi threats.

Love nearly everything Asmus has done, and can't wait for these 2 issues.
I love a lot of Kindt's stuff, but Unity hasn't been great for me.

The book has always been "Secret Weapons" just with another name. Calling it Unity was a mistake and should have been saved for something really big. Secret Weapons is a better name anyway.Shadowman99 wrote:Dude, *always* Secret Weapons...BugsySig wrote:I would fully support an end to Unity at #25. Talked with James quite a bit about it he know that no one who reads VEI will take him seriously and is looking forward to having us read this. I love talking to the guy he's very aware of the fans and how they react on his stuff.

At all. Will see how it goes, will they reboot after #25, or keep it going, hopefully the former.jeremycoe wrote:http://www.bleedingcool.com/2015/07/11/ ... ity-22-23/

Re: James Asmus to write Unity 23-24
Just like ThE Valiant and Divinity, Unity seems to have shown that Kindt is an idea guy who starts strong, then loses steam. He does not have the long-term vision of FVL and Dysart. I fear for Rai and Ninjak.

Re: James Asmus to write Unity 23-24
Asmus said at the panel that this would not be comedy. He joked about adding Quantum and Woody to the team, but then said that definitely wasn't happening.
As I discussed with others this week, I don't think it is Asmus I have a problem with, as I actually like Delinquents. I just don't go in for the Quantum and Woody book.

Re: James Asmus to write Unity 23-24
Kindt's pre-Valiant stuff is amazing. If you read his pre-Valiant stuff (Giant Man is amazing), he definitely tends for the anti-climactic endings. In my view, that's characteristic of a lot of indie books (Rucha, especially) as well as indie movies. It's more reflective of real life, and a departure from your typical superhero books. I find it refreshing, but YMMV. It will be interesting to see how he manages Mind MGMT. I'm about 10 issues behind, but he just wrote the last issue.

Re: James Asmus to write Unity 23-24
Yeah, Unity has been all over the place. I'm starting to wonder if it ever had a grand vision. It's weird though, since I sometimes felt like Rai's vision was a little too grand, with so many moving parts.erwinrafael wrote:Unity seems to have shown that Kindt is an idea guy who starts strong, then loses steam. Rai and Ninjak have been strong to date.
Re: James Asmus to write Unity 23-24
His Gambit run was great, that's the writer I wanted to see, Quantum and Woody I just don't think were really needed so soon in a world of Archer and Armstrong.lorddunlow wrote:Asmus said at the panel that this would not be comedy. Re: James Asmus to write Unity 23-24
I enjoyed Asmus on Q+W and Delinquents. I'll be interested, considering that he's not writing Unity in a comedy style, to see how it comes out when it hits the shelf. Keeping an open mind on this one.
No art by Ming Doyle though.

Re: James Asmus to write Unity 23-24
I love being surprised - I think that this is going to surprise a lot of us. Unity is such a serious book. I would love to see how a dash of humor works and also how he writes characters other than Q&W. It seems like it could be a great lead up to bigger things happening in #25, and it will also allow Kindt to have some time to really give some great treatment to it!
