Hey, I was definately due for a great deal! You know how hard it is to actually find any real buys in AR? You REALLY have to look!

The best deal I ever found was in Gassville, AR in a little place called The Blackhawk Trading Post. When I was 16 back in 1978, I stumbled on to the place. The owner had moved down from chicago. He had literally thousands of pulp magazines including some choice weird tales, Archie comics from the start and nice comics from the 40's through the late 60's. I really thought the Lady Lucks and the Phantom Lady comics were cool. The books were priced from about 50 cents to around 10 dollars each, with most being on the cheaper end.

Unfortunately I had less than $3 with me. I picked up Jughead #4, and Silver Surfer 15 & 16 . I then wrote down a bunch of things I saw and started writing for peoples buying lists. Figured before it was over I would be driving a new corvette. I saved up $100 & called my sister who lived nearby the store. Thought I would buy, sell, then buy more with the profits. After convincing my sister I had the money in hand she agreed to go buy books the next day ( I told her buy anything they had up to $100.)

Got a call the next day from my sister. The store had caught on fire that night. The fire department put it out, but it blazed up again later that night.
What the fire didn't destroy the water did. I still am sick when I think about those choice books being destroyed.

The best large lot of stuff I've ever seen. Usually in AR, you don't find much.

-Joe

Hey, Marley,

If you're interested in letting that solar#1 go, I'd be really interested, so If you plan on trading, just let me know. For anyone out there, I'm also looking for a Solar 6, #10 second print and Solar 12 to fill in some gaps.
Just my 2 cents (of an euro)

Well i just got in, what a waste of time..i spent more time traveling there and back then at the actual con...it was small with just a handful of dealers. I geuss the highlight was seeing a bloodshot 6 marked down from 18 to a buck.

We've all been there. I've made some treks to a few out of the way shops only to find diddley squat. The highlight being the drive through at McDonalds on the way back. It's when you make a score from one of your trips that make it all worth the effort and fuels the next journey.

Decent find today:

Psi-lords 1 (gold) & Solar:Destroyer 0 ($2.50 variant) for $6.00 - best of all I needed both books.

Also picked-up 5 Virgin flat covers of Psi-lords 1. I only need one so if anyone would like one please check out my complete trade list in the Buy / Sell area.

These are the regular cover to # 1:

http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/issue.asp?cn=430

only are flat, never folded or stapled covers to Psi-lords 1 sans interior. I really don't know anything else about them. Please feel free to regale me with your knowledge :)

I just got a Second Chance offer to buy another one from the seller for $14.51, so I'm happy about that, too!
