Hopefully it's reader interest and not just speculation interest.
If Valiant had 1/10th of the speculation interest of Marvel, they'd be 3% of the market. But Readers > temporary sales boosts, to be sure.
Are you even reading the same forums as me? There's barely a thread on this forum about the content of the books themselves. Instead it's there's a lot of threads about low print runs, variant covers, and graded books. This forum is disturbingly collectivistic and nobody seems to be bothered by it. Valiant wouldn't even have the sales numbers without these gross variants. I guess I should be thanking this board but lately I'm not feeling the direction of where Valiant marketing is heading.

Sadly I think I'm on the verge of quitting Valiant books just as quickly as I began only a few months ago. I'm going see how this summer event plays out, after that I'll make my decision. I hope the actual stories can hold my interest. I might just drastically cut back on their offerings.

This reads as "I have no attention span and bore easily". That may not be the case, but that's how you have portrayed yourself.

Part of the reason that so many members here are "collectors" (do we need the debate over collector vs reader again? We don't - it's a joke) is that when greg created this site, Valiant was a dead universe. There was no new material. Everything had already been read and discussed. The focus of this forum was carrying the torch of this awesome universe of characters. Guess what? This board is why VEI exists. You take this board away, and it is very likely that none of the books you're complaining about ever even existed.

If you don't like the stories, that's just how it is. If you're not enjoying them, then vote with your wallet. You're not going to get much traction on "Valiantfans.com" to say Valiant books suck. Constructive criticism and debate are welcomed, but unyielding negativity is tiring (this is coming from the person who has 4-5 threads devoted solely to whining about various things).

I love the VEI books. I was definitely put off by the multitude of minis that were being pumped out for a while, and I felt the overall quality of the storylines dropped a little, but it seems they've righted the ship again with lots of interesting ongoings and new characters/titles.

As for saying you think the Divinity numbers are just speculation, why do you think that? Number 3 sold more than number 2. There is nothing special about #3. What exactly would be the speculation be based on? Speculation occurs on #1s and first appearances (or deaths).

Speaking of variants. The Quantum and Woody Must Die #4 1:20 is looking pretty rare based on these numbers.

Why do people that don't like or enjoy a product, spend time in groups dedicated to the shared enjoyment of that same product?

It's like going to a Yankees game to strike-up loud conversations about how much you hate baseball.

"Yea, I'm thinking about getting away from baseball and watching more hockey; gonna wait and see how this season goes and if any of the games are any good.

I'm actually sort of *SQUEE* that everyone here in this baseball stadium seems to collectively support the game and root for their teams (and nobody seems to care!!!!)! This game wouldn't even exist if it we not for the fans, hotdog sales, or meet-the-player deals that are clearly designed to trick people into spending money on this crappy sport.

No one even talks about the game or players anyway..."

The Q&W Must Die variants are very rare. Condition on these, for whatever reason, it atrocious. Multiple color breaking spine creases.

I think the same thing ... 1/20th of 4000 is 200, right? But Dinesh said in another thread that the Divinity 1:40 had like 350 printed copies and that was perhaps their lowest print run. My assumption from that is there are at least several hundred copies of QAWMD 4s and I'm not sure how they were distributed. I know my shop got a couple of the 1:20s and I am sure they didn't order 40 total.

One was in great shape; the other had some creases and dings. According to the dude who works at the LCS, Diamond just tosses in all the unbagged/unboarded variants loosely on top of the regular books and they get hammered in the shipping process.

Well said. Cray, there's an entire section devoted to discussing the content. Ignoring it and pretending that all we talk about is collecting and speculation is disingenuous.

And anyone who thinks there's not a bona-fide component to collecting and speculating on comic books needs to take a good look at Ebay for a reality check. It's part of the fun, and millions of people agree.

Agreed, for me speculating (when successful) helps me collect more of what I like that I could otherwise not afford. Maybe there are some board members who are only in this to make a buck but I can honestly say that's not the case with the majority of members I've interacted with.

Today, some CGC books are shipping. I have 21 9.8s coming, including a Solar #3.

What am I most excited about? The Delinquents #3 incentive variant. Why? because the print run is so ridiculously small and the quality of these books are atrocious after Diamond mishandles them. To get a 9.8 VEI incentive variant in 9.8 is a grail item, and this is my grail of the week.

I also got a The Valiant #1 1:100 in 9.8!

I love pizza. I also love quality pizza. I wouldn't mind selling pizza, nor would I mind making pizza or enjoying watching others enjoy the pizza I made for them to enjoy.

There are many ways to enjoy the same thing; and each of us can partake in more than just one way.

I love reading the stories, collecting the art, owning the slabs, and acquiring creator signatures on all of this when possible.

People are all like "hey look at me, I'm a reader" or "I'm a collector" and I'm just over here like "I'm a Valiant Fan..."

That Solar 3 is SWEET! So is The Valiant 1:100.

What are some of the others?

How many did you send in?
