Oh, I'll get to read it. VEI just won't get paid for it. I'd prefer to pay them for it, I really would. I love Valiant and want to support them. But, if they don't want to sell me a copy, I will pirate the hell out of it without hesitation or regret.FormerReader wrote:I may not buy the book when it is first available (then again I may, not sure yet). I understand the frustration from your point of view. I guess my point is why not wait and see how this all works out. We may not all be able to get this series the day it comes out. That is annoying, but we may be able to get this series for under cover a month or two after the fact (or maybe not). I can't keep up with Valiant. I tried to get all the variants. That lasted for half a year. Then I tried to get all the golds. I still don't have Bloodshot #1 gold. I couldn't get a Unity 3d or Unity Red when they came out (I ended up paying $20 bucks for them a few months later). I then said I'll just get the reprints and convention exclusives.DantePD wrote:Well, at the moment, my only option, as a digital customer is to preorder it to the tune of $35 an issue from Midtown Comics. I know the difference here is this is a separate story you want to read (as we all do) and I appreciate that, but I'm sure you will have the opportunity to read it whether you find it for sale after it is released or by some other method. No matter what has been solicited you will be able to get a copy of this story shortly after it is released.

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
Sometimes companies do some stupid stuff. This weekend, I was going to buy the VUDU digital copies of the Star Wars saga using the disc-to-digital program. I loaded my blu-rays in my PC and received a message that they weren't available for disc-to-digital. Only option was to buy outright for $100 So, they lost $12 from me because I just ripped the discs myself into digital files. Stupid.DantePD wrote:Oh, I'll get to read it. Pre-ordered a copy because that's a very reasonable pricing.Tim wrote:DCBS has the book for $1.99!!
There's a limit of 5 at that price and then they're 35% off!!
After reading the estimation and numbers here, let's wait and see the whole thing blows up in whose faces (likely those pre-ordered there).

I can not see DCBS honouring the order once they realize they need to order 125 copies of Book of the Dead per customer who has ordered 5 geomancers.

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
I'm surprised that LotG is so heavily discounted at dcbs, but not surprised that a retailer would offer them at cover, especially since the base book is returnable. I placed an order with them and with TFAW. Hopefully one of them will honor those posted prices so I'll be covered. Assuming that does happen, I'd say that we're going to end up with at least some unhappy consumers, considering the price disparity that this book is being offered at.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.
Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
At the same time they manage that for roughly every two 1:60s ordered so it would be a shame if they adjust people's orders. Or maybe they end up returning 100 copies of every 125, which would really be a pity. We'll see.Paul Nolan wrote:I can not see DCBS honouring the order once they realize they need to order 125 copies of Book of the Dead per customer who has ordered 5 geomancers.

Sounds like someone has cocked up there.
Eithter that, or they will eat the cost and break the Valiant record for single book orders (Book Of Death) lol!

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
TFAW still listed the book as regular pricing ($3.99 with 20% discount)... but it just became "NOT AVAILABLE".

Either they are limiting the amounts to limit the number of Book of Death needed, or they are adjusting it soon LOL.

was this new style 'incentive' not clear on the Previews retailer stuff or something? and if two MAJOR retailers can muck up the listings, how many other shops won't notice until order day?

Twenty dollars isn't so bad.
I think if the opportunity to pay $20 to support Valiant's growth efforts presented itself ten years ago when things looked bleakest for the return of our favourite comic book line, a majority of us would have jumped at the chance to do so without complaint.

this argument is great in all walks of life.
"You can put up with a little a bit of homophobia, its not as bad as it would have been x years ago, so its okay"
but lets get back to the issue of Valiant making it difficult for Valiant fans to access Valiant comic books.
mainly because this isn't 2005.

Re: Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer
There's a huge difference in wanting to spend extra money to help a fledgeling comic book company with everything in the industry stacked against them and being gouged by a company with hundreds of millions of Chinese dollars behind them now.
The original Valiant did exclusive coupon books too when they were in their early days (and only twice in the history of the company, if I remember correctly as opposed to four times in four months), but once they became successful you never saw that again.

This conversation would be so much more fun if VEI had been backed by the Vietnamese instead:Tim wrote:There's a huge difference in wanting to spend extra money to help a fledgeling comic book company with everything in the industry stacked against them and being gouged by a company with hundreds of millions of Chinese dollars behind them now.

First off, Valiant's promo and homophobia. LOL. Just.. no.
Second off, re: coupons. Both initiatives would have different goals. IMO, coupons wouldn't convince stores to order and push more books. This has a chance. It's an outside the box idea. I'm curious to see how it plays out. The millions of chinese dollars are going to have an effect years down the road. Valiant needs to gain ground in the comics area now.

just using scalability to illustrate the stupidity of the "we would have accepted it x years ago now, so its really alright now even though we're in a different era" argumentDonovan wrote:First off, Valiant's promo and homophobia. LOL. Just.. no.
Well I'm presuming DCBS and TFAW are theoretically cancelling a load of prospective Valiant comic sales at the moment.Donovan wrote:Second off, re: coupons. I doubt those Chinese yuan can be diverted from movie-making to their comics-crafting.
Also, one thing needs to be made clear:
DMG Entertainment is secretly American.
