Changed this back and bumped DBS's old VEI thread. Sometimes I forget which threads are already out there.

I frankly bought a ton of VEI 2nd prints from Midtown that were sold to me as NM copies, and few if any were actually NM. They were mostly VF at best. I will never buy from them again.

That's disappointing to read. I bought another 1:40 from them, and a few other copies. I've had mixed experiences with them. One thing I will say, is that they did their best to make situations right. I've received ripped covers, missing pieces, bad packing, water damage, etc. I like them because I used to buy from them when I lived in NYC. Great shop for new books. Really. The mail order service is definitely spotty.

I order all my new stuff from them. I can't say it's always in great shape, but it is the majority of the time.

I've never been happy with condition of books the few times I've dealt with Midtown mail order. I'm not picky about condition at all.

I had my monthly diamond order come 80% damaged a few months ago like all of my books were dropped before packaging them up. Contacted customer service and they asked for some photos. Did that send back the damaged books and they mailed back the replacements with no other questions. They usually are pretty reliable on condition for new books I really don't purchase variants from them.

I've had very good luck buying from Midtown but that's mostly graphic novels and collected editions I pick up when they have their 40% off sales. I recently ordered some VEI variants (including the Divinity #1 1:40 Larosa for $34 minus the 25% Valiant discount they give) that are supposed to be in NM. I have not received the books yet, but if they're not NM as advertised then I will definitely send them back.

I was at my shop today and they had three 1st print #1A at cover price on the shelf. Which is weird because when I went to get one for Dunlow last week, there were none on the shelf.

My guess is that they put them in people's pull-bags unsolicited (which they do with first issues from time to time) and three buyers didn't want them. :?

I scooped 'em up.

I bought the Divinity #1 LaRosa off ebay. Yeah, I didn't think to check MTC, which is kinda dim since I keep meaning to use the Valiant discount, so my face is a little red. It was listed as a NM+, looked fairly minty from the pic and the only other one listed was around $70-80 BIN. It was actually bid up to $40 several days ahead of the close so it seems odd that there was another readily available for $5 less. If it comes in as a keeper, I'll be happy at $61 regardless.

What I'm really waiting for, though, is the Divinity 1 Gold :hope:

Ok, I'm intrigued. What's this 25% Valiant discount at Midtown? And what do you have to do to receive it? Thanks!

I seemed to have missed that one as well, and am disappointed after having bought several variants this week!

Midtown runs full-page ads in all (most?) of the Valiant books advertising their 25% discount on all Valiant comics if you order from them. The discount code is valiant2015. I sure hope I didn't breach some form of board etiquette by posting that, but I figure most people here are aware of it if they're reading the comics.

When I ordered, it was 15% off by default. Entered the code and it didn't change the cart total, but not a big deal.

Thanks. I'm catching up on the newer Valiants, haven't run across that ad yet.

That 1:40 for $61 is looking like a pretty good deal.
40 times $20 is $800. :D
