Bloodshot Reborn #1

Post by betterthanezra »

What an Amazing follow-up to The Valiant, set 6 months after in Colorado. Lemire really shines with the story so much happens in this issue and Mico Suayan art is truly something to awe over. I questioned having Lemire write this when I first heard about it but that was before I found out he was also writing The Valiant and I really can't think of a better person to tackle the character after the Mini series.

I really hope this reaches more Non Valiant fans than any other title. The shop I go to has ordered more copies of this issue than any other Valiant #1 in the last few years and alot of that has to do with Lemire.

Not just being a Homer here but I really give this issue a 10/10 it's truly fantastic and what Valiant needs for a follow-up to The Valiant

I expect a Sell Out and multiple printing to come.

Now if there weren't so many damn covers 8-)

Great issue. I think it will really hook readers and give them something to look forward to in subsequent issues.

Also, Jeff Lemire's contributions beyond writing were great.

Mico Suayan is having a big signing event here on Saturday. The noncollector in me is thinking I should not go because of the traffic.

Great issue. And like Brian said, great follow up to The Valiant.
What I find most interesting is Bloodshot's current state. Before Kay took his nanites out, he wasn't really human. He may have started out as a man but wound up being a nanite filled, human shaped meat sack. Now he's just a man who has to cope with the fact that he used to be a monster. It's pretty interesting stuff!

I found it interesting that it said Kay "freed the nanites from his blood" and not the other way around. Where did the nanites go? Could they have something to do with the copycat?

There is an article about Bloodsquirt on Bleeding Cool:

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2015/04/15/ ... ot-reborn/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think it wasn't exactly a secret that there would be Lemire art in the issue. At least it seems we've known for a while. We just didn't know what it would be. The most interesting line in the article for me was:
there is even more Bloodsquirt news to come…
Looking forward to it.

Great issue! Approaches relevant and touchy topics without being overtly preachy to one side or the other, which in my opinion is the perfect way to handle issues like this. I particularly liked the little Bloodsquirt bit at the ending when he goes through the typical superhero cliches ("Which member of our rogue's gallery is responsible?") makes me wonder how you can go from writing this back to traditional super heroes over at Marvel, but I guess that's something best left alone. Also, a SNES cartridge system playing HD games with a PS controller...is Jeff Lemire a million years old or something?

All kidding aside, Mico is firing on all cylinders, and it's pretty clear from the continuity summaries that Valiant hasn't forgotten the loose threads that still linger from the past Bloodshot series. So...ya know...told ya so.

10/10 High hopes for some strong follow ups. :hope: Valiant Next has yet to disappoint!

I don't know... I felt it played out EXACTLY the way I would have expected a powerless-Bloodshot issue to play out. I wasn't surprised by a single panel. :(

Not specifically. But (and this may be a product of me reading an interview that I shouldnt have) his appearance just gave me the reaction of "oh, here's how Lemire is handling what he was talking about.

Kind of felt the same myself. No didn't see blood squirt coming but kind obvious to see that he was hallucinating or high back with the wordless previews

I had to do some running around for this issue, my lcs was sold out by 10:30. It was worth it though, I like what Lemire is doing here, humanizing Ray, makes him more relatable. I'm assuming that Kay is a hallucination from all the booze and pills, but that *SQUEE* seemed real as hell, and Bloodsquirt, Ha, he kind of stole the show, and the way in which Lemire did the art around Mico's, was really creative.

Too soon to tell. Bloodsquirt is a little goofier than I was expecting. But we'll see. So far it's all prelude.

I must say I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this issue.

I can't imagine a more perfect introduction to Valiant for new, potential fans than this.

This is FINALLY the tortured aspect of Bloodshot I was hoping for many months ago.

Just hoping the few notes of Punisher I tasted won't be enough for the book to be dismissed as a knock-off.

*SQUEE* A+ Valiant...

+1 It's a good intro issue. I'm glad I didn't read the previews or anything.

Oh, and I'm wondering if Bloodshot is gonna go Hulk: An inner persona that kicks in when danger is near. That would be an interesting angle, giving us a mortal Ray Garrison just trying to keep his life together with a savage, invincible alter ego.

You heard it here first!

This was a brilliant issue - I did not want it to end.

Lemire is a magnificent writer

Wow

the juxtaposition of Mico's gritty realism and Lemire's cartoony Bloodsquirt is absolutely brilliant - that along with the little kid playing violent video games, Ray/Bloodshot's inability to cope with his violent past - it's a smart commentary and reflection of our violent and desensitized culture.

In regards to Ray ... And what Kay did to him.

I dont think she just made the robots/nanites disappear (as she says in the book - that's pretty ridiculous) what she did was give him a chance to be normal for a little while. To reflect ... And come to terms with what he was... i think she turned the robots off / made them passive .. But now it's time to be Bloodshot again.

So many feels about this issue.

A fantastic masterpiece of comic storytelling from the writing through the stylistic fusion of two artists & brilliant colouring, to boot. Valiant's strength in having great stories is through strong characterization like what we have been treated to in this book. :thumb: :thumb:

In case anyone here doesn't scan through any of the various podcast threads elsewhere on the boards, here's a link to the latest Only The Valiant: VCR episode where we discuss this fantastic issue & Unity 17 at length (I promise you a good time if you tube in :wink: );

This is probably, in my personal opinion, one of the single greatest issues published by nu-valiant and a worthy redemption for a character who's relaunch was completely muddied by taking a back seat to Harbinger Wars. Bloodsquirt is also a very funny and welcome addition and gave me flash backs to issue five of The Maxx where Saturday morning nightmares are brought on by cartoons and too much pez

And am I alone in thinking that this book had a very "Garth Ennis Punisher Max" feel to it?

I'm gonna have to reread it. I didn't get a "fantastic masterpiece" vibe. Good and enjoyable, yes. But I usually enjoy things more on the second read anyway, so we'll see.
