Retailer Editions?

Post by jmatt »

Of course I'm aware of the Unity Red Retailer Edition, but I've lately seen other retailer editions like this.

So, are these like any other variant? Or something fewer in number and more exclusive? Does anyone know which books have had retailer editions?

The particular example you have a link for IS considered a "Retailer Edition"; however, it's considered a "shared" variant, rather than specific to one particular retailer. Prime example: Hastings did a Retailer Edition for each issue of The Valiant, but those Brian Peeples covers are exclusive to Hastings (only).

I can't speak for what the numbers are for the "shared" covers, as compared to specific Retailer Editions, but they ARE lower production/allocation numbers than, say, Regular and Pullbox editions, if that was what you were asking.

I'm not sure, but I have one from Ed. I thought the sketch covers were a limited order variant. Honestly, though, I can't keep up on the variants. I hope to be organized by August, but by then, there will be 200 other variants.

One thing I can say is that the cover binding on these books is amazing, especially for the limited variants. Mine are nearly all in 9.8. I'm thinking of having Paolo Rivera sign mine at Big Wow in a couple of weeks, but they're so minty, that I'd rather slab them. Hmmmm

Yeah, I'm thinking about ones that Valiant makes available itself (like Unity Red), not the Retailer versions of books that are designed by retailers and have their logos on them.

And yes, that helps, Bloodshot. Thanks.

Who can? It's crazy. But I rather like the idea of the 'Red' type of variant.

We have Unity Red, Unity 3D, and Shadowman Black, that I know of. They botched distribution on the 3D book, but I think it should be included.

You might also include the ComicsPro Bloodshot Reborn and Ninjak books, as they were given just to retailers.

Is there any unique content in the Bloodshot Reborn & Ninjak retailer editions, or were they just early printed copies that say 'retailer edition' on them?

The recent ones have character design covers, but I can't imagine unique internal content.

We need a term for the Retailer Editions that don't have any sort of LCS logo attached; I've seen 'Shared' Retailer Edition but that doesn't really underscore the point that they were solicited by VEI and not by LCS vendors. 'Shared' might connote that they were LCS editions that were solicited by more than one LCS, which they're not.

Actually, that is exactly what Shared means, it is available at more than one store, sharing the print run

Hmm, okay. I was under the assumption that if an LCS logo wasn't on it, it was something that VEI made available on its own impetus, not that a bunch of retailers got together and asked for it.

Does that maker any sense?

Oh, yeah, Valiant goes to stores that do variants and ask if they want to participate. Usually there are no store logos because it would take away from the cover to have so many logos. Though our shared Delinquents ones had logos because it was a map

Thanks for clearing that up, Ed. I had no idea.

I know I was a bit confused on the retailer cover for Ninjak. I bought my Ninjak set from Ed but the. midtown and DCBS had their "cover" too and I ordered them. Was bummed out when it was one of the same covers Ed had.

Are you talking about b/w cover? Notice how I always list them as Shared Variants? That is how you know it will be at a few stores

Yeah, the B/W cover. You do it right by saying it is shared. Those other shops don't. I don't mind having copies of Valiant books but I would not have bought those knowing I was getting that book/cover from you.
