Or reusing old obscure characters? I am kinda interested in the Inhumans and generally any more obscure characters/teams rising to prominence. I loved the everloving **** out of Superior Foes of Spidey.

I've said it before. I want comics that reference and are continuations of stories that I grew up reading (90's Marvel and DC comics) and they really don't even have to be terribly good.

I think both companies miss out by not using their obscure characters enough. You have a guy like Brad Meltzer come in and tell are very compelling story featuring minor characters while showcasing the popular ones. Comics at its best.
Re: More interested in the Big 2 when they are doing new thi
DC has shown to seriously have hurt themselves by ditiching the low tier heroes. Their world just feels smaller now.

Old or new, obscure or front-line - if it's interesting & good, it will draw people in.

Old or new it doesn't really matter. They need to focus on story telling. they could replace all their characters with rocks for all i care. if the story is good people will read it.

The problem with the lack of obscurer characters and the heavy use of household characters may have something to do with Marvel and DC not willing to take a chance. These people obviously aren't the type to have enough paitence to help something grow by nurturing it with time and attentionslym2none wrote:Old or new, obscure or front-line - if it's interesting & good, it will draw people in

They seem to have done well with GotG, and the new Spider-Gwen & Silk titles are seemingly going to be hits (at least for 6 months or so.)omega_override wrote:dave the second wrote:I think both companies miss out by not using their obscure characters enoughdornwolf wrote:DC has shown to seriously have hurt themselves by ditiching the low tier heroes. Last time I did this was for Moon Knight. 6 issues later and I was out for obvious reasons...

Spider-Gwen (and what a terrible title that is, I hope she doesn't actually call herself that!) #1 has already sold out over a week before its release, 200K print run, and is going to a 2nd print.lorddunlow wrote:This.slym2none wrote:the new Spider-Gwen & Silk titles are seemingly going to be hits (at least for 6 months or so.)

I wonder how many of those are for fans, and how many are for speculators? I'd bet 75% of those 200K copies are multi-copy orders from people.
I hope I am wrong about that, I really do hope so...

I'm really interested in all the Spiderman stuff coming out now. Especially the Spider-Gwen stuff (I agree that's a really bad title).slym2none wrote:Spider-Gwen (and what a terrible title that is, I hope she doesn't actually call herself that!) #1 has already sold out over a week before its release, 200K print run, and is going to a 2nd print.lorddunlow wrote:This.slym2none wrote:the new Spider-Gwen & Silk titles are seemingly going to be hits (at least for 6 months or so.)

However, this speculation hype really just makes me want to give up on collecting altogether and just read digitally. I can't stomach paying exorbitant prices for things that have no reason to cost as much as they do.

Re: More interested in the Big 2 when they are doing new thi
I guiltily admit, I am in on the speculating, but only because that's how I am making any money right now. If I ever land a regular job, I will drop this crap in a heartbeat - it's rough trying to be on top of it all, and when you start to get behind a little & you're running around trying to find copies before they are all snatched up (by other speculators), well, it just isn't fun. Also, getting left holding the bag isn't fun, esp. when you don't have the capital to lose. I am holding some of the FF #642s and not seeing them go anywhere (yet!
) and I just got back some books from CGC, two being #1s of "The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina" Midtown variant cover (J. Scott Campbell covers) that are doing nothing on the aftermarket. I thought JSC covers of females were sure things, but between the $15 price tag for the books and ~ $25 for CGC & shipping costs, and seeing only one blue-label 9.8 just SITTING on eBay with a $49.95 BIN, it is getting a little disheartening.

I don't hold anything against people making money off the idiots that want to pay through the nose for a book that will be worth much less in a short period of time.
I just wish people would stop going crazy over them.

Did they have ongoing stories with at least 75 issues? I just watched the motion comic.ilzuccone wrote:wow i've never thought of the inhumans as obscure.Lady Oiorpata wrote:Or reusing old obscure characters? I am kinda interested in the Inhumans

Yeah, but i assume they are more obscure for Joe Average comics buyer, otherwise we would see them featured in their long ongpoing series before the Inhumans movie plans.ilzuccone wrote:it's about 300 pages worth of golden story telling and pitch perfect art.Lady Oiorpata wrote:Did they have ongoing stories with at least 75 issues?ilzuccone wrote:wow i've never thought of the inhumans as obscure.Lady Oiorpata wrote:Or reusing old obscure characters? You should watch Rubber. It is a movie about a sentient telekinetic tire that does just that.jxm640 wrote:I would read a book about a rock rolling around the world trying to discover itself.ilzuccone wrote:Old or new it doesn't really matter. Agreed! There are numerous characters who I'm endeared to that would be perceived on the surface level to drab and uninspired, but because of the well crafted story that complements them, they shine on their ownilzuccone wrote:Old or new it doesn't really matter. I think Guardians was a need to be a hit more than anything. With the lack of X-men/Fantastic Four/and Spider-man for movies Disney looked pretty deep into the bench for characters and then Marvel went to work laying the ground floor by assigning one of their top talents to it in the form of Bendis to push it same with Inhumans.
I consider Spider-gwen one of the first rare fan hits in a good long while.
Silk is literally a character that Marvel wants us all to desperately like.
This is true. DC specifically just doesn't have the patience anymore. And the desire for line-wide conformatiy didn't help in the slightest. So many characters who would lets be honest never anchor a book for more than six issues, which isn't totally a bad thing, are just ignored and used for cannon fodder.omega_override wrote: The problem with the lack of obscurer characters and the heavy use of household characters may have something to do with Marvel and DC not willing to take a chance.
