Unity #15 Discussion

Really enjoyable issue with a lot of development for Ninjak leading into his solo series. Loved the art too.

Looks like next month's issue is another stand-alone story, but of Gilad. Are we working toward finding out about this most recent mission? Or was the most recent mission the fight against the United? I'm not clear on that.

I guess I'm a little curious as to what the direction of this book is right now. It's been a great vehicle for Ninjak, but once he's in his own book, that could get lost. Hopefully Livewire will get the spotlight more as well as we go. But what I really wanted, and got for three issues, after Armor Hunters was a mission statement for the team. Im hoping we come back to that team aspect soon.

I'd almost kind of call this a back door pilot to Ninjaks series. Funny how he doesn't normally get along with everyone and yet there he is missing eveyone and wanting to do the superhero equivalent of hanging out.

I'm guessing violet wake is supporting cast for Ninjak. Really like issues like this where you see superheroes in their downtime, it seems like the livewire issue is going to show us the actual mission judging from solicits but maybe i'm wrong

I was a bit confused on that as well. I was thinking it could have been a reaction to the fight against Mr. Flay in "The Valiant". That would have made the most sense to me, especially with
Kindt's involvement in that book. That series has so far been self-contained but soon hope to see repercussions in other books. I know Bloodshot Reborn picks up from it but what what and when of the others.
It could be some other massive fight they are reeling from. To me thought that kind of lessens the impact on "The Valiant" and makes this mystery fight a bit less compelling. Massive gut wrenching battle after another...
That said, Unity is at the top of my list for Valiant titles. It's really nice to get some background and insight on Ninjak. I'm looking forward to The Eternal Warrior and Livewire issues.

I was thinking/hoping that the mystery conflict will be from The Valiant, too, but I'm suspecting it's not. The May solicitations say we will see the "top secret conflict" (as much as solicits can be trusted) in issue #18.

I thought this was the weaker of the three issues out today, but I think it would be tough to beat The Valiant and Timewalker.

Gotta be the United arc, all of the memories and flashbacks are only Gillie and Livewire.

I think we're seeing a set-up for Ninjak to leave the team as his own title is on the way.

Oh, and OMG: Separate, not seperate! Jeez Louise. Does anyone proof read these before print? That's like a sixth grade spelling error. Here's how you remember: 'par', as in to part ways.

It's possible this is just the core team doing a mission by themselves, which might lead to them deciding that they always need a fourth. Hopefully Charlie Palmer is a stable Fourh member they can use for a while- he'd be especially great in that role with Ninjak soon to moonlight in his own book.

For most of the issue, I was under the impression that Colin was traumatized by the last mission, seemingly having almost died. So, to me it was kind of amusing when I realized that he was missing all of that. and poor guy, has to wait weeks til the next sanctioned mission.
And what about all of his aids/helpers? Do they not know that he is Ninjak? Or they do?
I'm a big Pere Perez fan, but this issue didn't seem up to his usual standards to me. Anyone else think that? Not trying to dog him, because he's really one of my favorites. But the first few pages, I wasn't even sure was him drawing?!

I've been down on Unity for a long time, and down on Kindt even more so.

This... this was a damn fine issue right here.

Enjoyable one shot issue, which kept me interested throughout. I took Ninjak's mood to be one of missing the adrenaline rush that comes with Unity missions rather missing the other members per se?

Slight gripe about Ninjak being a rich fella surrounded by business advisors, seemed a bit cliche. I think the main criticism of Ninjak as a main character is that there is a lack of originality and these scenes seemed to highlight that fact.

3/5 - solid read! :thumb:

I actually like how uniquely unoriginal Ninjak comes off as. He's a Batman-007 ninja gadgeteer! You combine enough elements from other characters and you get something unique. It's kinda Valiant's bread and butter. Just look at Harbinger, Bloodshot or XO. Mashups, the lot of them. And it works brilliantly.

I can think of a few reasons it doesn't work for me, so rest assured you're not alone. This was a lot better to me than a lot of the run.

On the cusp of Ninjak #1 coming out in about 6 weeks I'd kinda call this Ninjak #0.

I really enjoyed this issue and hope Unity #16 is a solo Gilad tale.

I think a per-character arc would be just what the doctor ordered for this book. Keeping my fingers crossed

Agreed, if anything, this issue increased my desire to read his upcoming solo title.

It offered some good insights into his personal life, how he handled Nelville's 'simple' mission was interesting.

Though I have a question about the guy looking for an investment for his fusion suits, did Ninjak actually attack him? At first, I thought he was merely fantasizing about doing that, keeping in theme with him being an action addict, but when Ninjak leaves, you can clearly see that the guy's chair is indeed sliced in half. So your potential investor leaps up and lunges at you with a sword, barely missing and it garners no reaction whatsoever from the guy?? Unless the guy knew he was Ninjak....but then how does that work with him being an ultra-secret spy? :hm: :?

He was definitely fantasizing. Didn't notice the chair sliced in half. Maybe Ninjak has sliced someone in that chair before? Either that or an artistic mistake.
