Seriously a great issue and if you have any friends on the fence or who haven't even tried this yet, I'd definitely recommend telling them to pick up this issue. Curious what other people thought, especially if there's anybody kicking around here that hasn't been reading X-O but tries this issue.

No worries...that happens a lot. Especially with big releases that some of our members get advanced looks at.

Saw a ton of reviews for this one already, so it seems like VEI is really pushing it as a jumping on point.

They are, definitely, and Venditti pulled it off fantastically. I would argue it was one of the best "jump on" issue I've seen in recent memory.

I thought this issue was pretty good! I was dreading that, based on the solicits, this was going to be an issue set completely in the past. I did not expect we'd be going to Loam and the revelations there. Pretty good for a "jumping on" issue.

So, what is Shanhara trying to tell Aric? The dream is of both Deidra speaking of the stars, but also an invading force represented by the Romans. Substitute Dead Hand in there, and add in the armor taking Aric to the very temple he first donned the armor. Was the armor trying to warn Aric of the threat that Loam is apparently facing?

:thumb: :thumb: there was a new armor being "birthed" on Loam so I can totally see that being the cace.

Cool issue. Good jumping on point for sure. Great art! And a pretty intriguing tease at the end...a new XO armor? Dead Hand on a planet sized transport...with a face!?!?

I would point out that it is only blooming right now. How long is the gestation period? When does it produce the armor? Does that mean Loam is the birthplace of all the armors like was mentioned in the myths? Is this the reseeding that we heard about in the last story regarding the guy who was pulling all the armor hunters together, before they all disappeared? So many great questions are presented in this issue I'm very much looking forward to the payoffs. :thumb:

Yeah, VDitti likes to take his sweet time to unravel all the story. We've only gotten small pieces of Shanhara and the Armors' history throughout 33+ issues. So I hope Dead Hand finally gives us some concrete info.

Seriously great read. A great tie in to the next big event. I liked the art quite a bit too and I was glad to see Loam and The Vine again. I like that Shanhara acted independently of Aric too! The last issue had some good action but was a bit light on substance- I felt that this one made up for that and sets the stage for something exciting to happen. Did I mention that I thought the art was pretty great?

Just another great X-O issue. One of many.

Again, I thought the telling of the story from the present, to the past, 'n to and fro was very well done. Such exceptional ways to explain things and I thought the art was absolutely perfect for the prose.

Looks like we're going to get a little 'ol Shanhara, Jr sprouting. But even if it gestates from the bloom, who will be worthy? :hm:

The spirit of Gafti perhaps. One who was worthy of the sacred seed along with Aric?

Any one else seriously hope Arics wife is somehow magically brought back to life. She's way more interesting than...what ever the womans name is that Aric is sleeping with. You know the one that's just kinda there.

See, I thought at first that the scene on Loam with the Hara Vine flowering and the dark planet showing up was another vision of the past, like maybe when this armor was first about to be created in the past. If that scene is happening in the now instead of in the past... Hmmm.

Interesting...

I wasn't seeing it as a past event on Loam, but it definitely could be. :hm:

I thought this was a good set up issue. Not a very meaty issue but definitely created some intrigue and buzz for dead hand and a nice way of further developing Aric and fleshing out Deidre some more.

I think the scene on Loam is happening now ... The vine priest says "the prophecy will be borne anew" meaning this is a new armor - not the original X-O armor

This pretty much sums up my take on it. I think the new bloom could also be some kind of Hara vine reaction to the killing of the armors in AH.

Also, we don't know that Deidre is dead, do we? I know she was hauled away by the Romans but I don't recall seeing her die. Perhaps she was swept up by the Vine after Aric was.
