Speculation re: Major Charles Palmer’s death
Anyone else out there worried that Charles Palmer isn’t long for the Valiant universe? In Bloodshot & HARD Corps #0, Arthur tells Carol that she could have 20-25 years with Charles. (That was in 1993…and Arthur’s range puts Charlie’s projected death around 2013-2018.) It’s possible that he’s been upgraded since then—but then again, not if we trust Genius, who begged Oreck to experiment on him, since Palmer’s brain implants were the old kind, not the newer kind.
I feel that we need to appreciate Palmer while he’s around, and hope he goes out a hero.

Certainly an under-appreciated character. I hope they utilize him more.

God I hope not. While he is developed he still needs a touch more and would love to see him in his own book or even in Unity like others have suggested.

Re: Speculation re: Major Charles Palmer’s death
I may be wrong, but I don't get the same sense of (pseudo) real time ageing for the characters as with VH1. I may be wrong in that estimation, and in my supposition, but I suspect VEI's time progression is a little more 'sliding time-scale' like the big two. The question of whther the Gen Zero kids are now almost a couple of years older would answer that of course.juliewongferra wrote:Anyone else out there worried that Charles Palmer isn’t long for the Valiant universe? Re: Speculation re: Major Charles Palmer’s death
I came dangerously close to nerd rage upon reading the subject. I'm sure he'll be around for the Hard Corps ongoing that is coming out in my imagination.
I think there is something special about Palmer limits the side effects of his implants. Okay, maybe the only bad effects we saw were Shakespeare's cancer and Maniac's insanity but there wasn't a lot of panel time to develop the other members before they were...*totally not holding back a tear* killed. *sniff*
I think a way will be written around him and his implants like him being an latent psiot or something.

Maybe the estimation of his lifespan was based on the old tech they had back then. Maybe with the upgrades he got when they reactivated him, it is less invasive/damaging to the lifespan?

I like the limited life span concept introduced by the "ancient" tech in his head; developed when cell phones were the size of bricks. It makes his presence in a comic more special because you know this guy is not going to be around forever. I hope they follow up with killing him, but I want a lot more HARD Corps action first.

Re: Speculation re: Major Charles Palmer’s death
I can see your point, but I think its because the stories are decompressed. Given timing required for some of the events, I believe that VEI does have characters age in real time (Darpan in Imperium 1 helped me with this). It is just slightly jarring to realise that one story occurs in a week and then the characters jump forward 3 months until the next story.leonmallett wrote:I may be wrong, but I don't get the same sense of (pseudo) real time ageing for the characters as with VH1. Palmer is in The Valiant... So alive for now.
Re: Speculation re: Major Charles Palmer’s death
Didn't they have a panel during Harbinger Wars showing that he had upgrades installed?

I hope they don't kill him off because we all know that with Valiant - "dead is dead!"

Don't squash my dreams of further adventures of Maniac, Shakespeare and Hammerhead. I hold out hope that what is left of their exploded brains are being preserved and regrown in vats in some PRS facility somewhere.X-O Manowar0415 wrote:I hope they don't kill him off because we all know that with Valiant - "dead is dead!"
