My Fantastic, Whimsical First Valiant Story.
Actually, it's not really. It was a simpler time...
The year was 2012, and I was attending the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo in, well, Calgary. Valiant had a booth there, it was small and out of the way but we stumbled across it. On the front of the table I saw "CARY NORD" and I was immediately pulled towards it. I knew his work from his time on Conan and of course had to go and meet him. I had heard rumbles of this thing called Valiant and that it was coming back but at the time I was so deep into other publishers that they weren't really on my radar. Cary Nord changed all that.
A month, or so, before the actual release of X-O Manowar, Cary Nord handed me two copies (seen below) after signing them both and telling me a little bit about it. Not only was it awesome that I was getting free comics, but I was getting them before most of the world! I was on cloud nine and after the show I raced home and read one of them, keeping the other pristine, and needless to say I'm hooked.
Just purchased a few lots of old Valiant, as well as some of the Master editions and I've been going back and reading the history. Listening to Valiant Central Podcast and OTV, among others, as well to learn and absorb as much as I can. I'm frankly at the point where DC and Marvel are very close to be dropped in favor of Valiant (and Image, Dark Horse, etc, just no Big Two).
