Crossovers?
Events aside (Harbinger Wars, Armor Hunters, and possibly arguably The Valiant), have VEI only really had one true crossover (A&A with Bloodshot HARDCorps)? Or have I forgotten something?
Should they try more of that kind of thing? Or are they right to avoid inter-title crossovers?

Re: Crossovers?
I wouldn't mind seeing one every once in awhile. It would help the interconnective ness of the universe more than events ever would.

Re: Crossovers?
I was just thinking of this yesterday. It seems Bloodshot is the main "connector" of the Valiant Universe so far. Excluding the supernatural-based characters (Shadowman, Doctor Mirage and Punk Mambo) hasn't he run into everyone else so far?

What about Harbinger and Bloodshot during the Harbinger Wars.

XO and Unity....(I know Unity didn't exist before the crossover, but still, it meets the criteria)

Re: Crossovers?
It was that sense of interconnectedness, which we probably all associate with VALIANT, that got me pondering this issue.BugsySig wrote:+1dornwolf wrote:I wouldn't mind seeing one every once in awhile. It would help the interconnective ness of the universe more than events ever would.
As much as I dislike feeling compelled to buy books I don't normally pick up when a crossover happens, I have been surprised that VEI have not gone down that route more often so far. For me it would not feel a problem as I buy all the tittles, so I wonder if they are weighing up the value vs. potential cost of maybe turning some readers off?
Personally I would like to occasional inter-title crossover from VEI outside of events, as long as it is between ongoing titles and with a great story driving it.

Re: Crossovers?
Pretty much, but still actual crossovers, where the story weaves between titles, have been very limited.first_citizenx wrote:I was just thinking of this yesterday. Gilad and Aric are probably the next characters who have met up with other characters I guess.

Re: Crossovers?
From the limited response that I have heard from people, the amount of cross overs have already turned people off. While we buy everything more than a few people I talked to felt pushed to buy the other books so they dropped Valiant altogether. I honestly never thought there was many crossovers so I was very confused by this stance, but I have heard it repeated several times. I personally prefer the interconnected universe.
Re: Crossovers?
People complained about the amount of crossovers so they dropped Valiant, hope they dropped most of Batman and Superman from DC and some Marvels as well. You can`t go 6 months before crossover or EVERYTHING CHANGES HERE EVENT.Ramses818 wrote:From the limited response that I have heard from people, the amount of cross overs have already turned people off. Re: Crossovers?
Gotta say, dropping a set of comics because a crossover occurred seems pretty bloody bizarre to me. It's pretty much to be expected that all comics within a line are likely to cross over at some point isn't it? Weird choice of action to me, but whatev.
Anyway, I guess it's up to you, but I don't really see why there needs to be much distinction between a crossover where an independent book (like Harb.Wars/Delinquents) is published to make it happen, or whether it happens in 'existing' line comics. All seems the same to me, via a fractionally different method of delivery

Re: Crossovers?
Well, there needs to be a distinction between different types of crossovers.
Team-Up- Having two main characters that aren't "normally" together, in one book. (Bloodshot and HARD Corps, Enter Ninjak, Wrath of the Eternal Warrior, The Delinquents)
Crossover- Two or more comics that join together to make one big story. (Mission: Improbable, Unity 1-4/X-O 19-22, Superman: Doomed, Battle of the Atom, Spider-Verse)
Events- Two or more books that tie in to a mini-series (Harbinger Wars, Green Lantern: Lights Out, Death of Wolverine)
Line-Wide Events- The same as events, but these tie in to all the major players of a universe. Usually these supply extra mini-series. (Armor Hunters, Forever Evil, Convergence, AXIS, Original Sin)
I'm still not sure where to classify "events" like Rage of Ultron and The Valiant, because they are "line-wide" in a sense, but they don't tie in to any other book directly.
In my opinion team-ups (depending on the book) and crossovers could and should happen once or twice a year. Events should happen no more than once a year, and line-wide events at least every other year.
Obviously these definitions aren't set in stone, but they make the most sense to me.

I guess I understand this kind of thinking if you don't care about an interconnected universe, but if you care at all about universes like Marvel and DC, that is just a stupid reason to not give something a chance. To top that off, it really doesn't happen all that often, especially when compared to the big two.Ramses818 wrote:From the limited response that I have heard from people, the amount of cross overs have already turned people off. I love crossovers and events. I often find new books thorough the crossovers (it's why I'm reading and loving Guardians of the Galaxy and All-New X-Men)

Re: Crossovers?
As an example from my own decision-making, when DC did it with some of the teen books in the New 52, I jumped off Legion Lost. I did so because I was weighing up how much I was enjoying it. Knowing I would have to buy issues of books I did not collect meant I would have some fairly random issues outside of identifiable runs, for a crossover I didn't really have much interest in. It was enough to swing the decision to drop a book I probably would have stayed with a little longer.Shadowman99 wrote:Gotta say, dropping a set of comics because a crossover occurred seems pretty bloody bizarre to me. Conversely not a problem for me with VEI as I buy all the books; but from that experience I can see how other may be deterred.

Re: Crossovers?
And this sums up the balance of risk and reward I guess, between the reader gains versus the risk of maybe losing some precisely because of the crossover itself.lorddunlow wrote:I love crossovers and events. I assume that more often than not crossovers bump the sales of at least the lowest selling title involved?

Re: Crossovers?
Part of the concern for doing more crossovers between books might be how to package them for collections. For instance, if you are reading Bloodshot via TPB you might either never know about the crossover with Archer & Armstrong and be oblivious to the additional Bloodshot story - or you might wonder why 2 issues of Bloodshot never got collected. I think TPB and HC are a big part of Valiant's business and that may factor into it.

A war between the hard corps and armorines would be cool, psiot soldiers vs armored soldier's.

Re: Crossovers?
They'd both need their own books first in order to have a crossover. It could be fun, though.Ras the future fan wrote:A war between the hard corps and armorines would be cool, psiot soldiers vs armored soldier's.
