Why so much Q&W?
I personally detest Q&W, which is why I didn't get Delinquents ( though I read my buddy's) nor Q2. I also wont/didn't get giant sized Q&W and see they have solicits for a Q&W must die mini ( ironic sense that's how I feel about the characters)... but the question is " why is there a glut of Q&W material?" do they sell that well? Haven't seen the sales figs on Delinquents; Q2 or the first 12 issues of Q&W for that matter.... are they VEI's big sellers? What kind of numbers do they do? Do they outsell XO, Rai, Harbinger etc? Just wondering

Re: Why so much Q&W?
Sales have not been exceptionally good or bad compared to the rest of the line for the individual issues. I am not sure how well Q&W does in collected form or digital.
I suspect it is partially VEI seeing the IP as a way of diversifying the types of stories they tell. I have not enjoyed the core Asmus-written books at all. I think the characters are workable, but the story-telling needs reining in IMHO, to better fit the whole VEI offer. Where Archer and Armstrong had elements of humour, that was delivered along with action, character development, solid plotting not based on contrivance, and a sense of place within the wider VEI line-up.
In my opinion, Quantum and Woody by Asmus has just been one-note, and if you accept that, then it that is polarising in terms of the love-hate response fans will have I guess.

Re: Why so much Q&W?
I personally love Q&W. Valiant sized Q&W is probably the best Q&W story (and lead in for Q&W must die) I have read. Personally the VEI Q&W is way better than the original or the Q2 stuff. If you haven't read Valiant Sized Q&W pick it up.

Re: Why so much Q&W?
I don't care for Quantum & Woody, but I get them as I am a completist and I like to try out all the Valiant books. I've also been surprised by how many books Quantum gets, but I don't know what makes a successful book for them. Perhaps it's a home run for Valiant. For me, not so much. But, I enjoyed Shadowman, so I must be in the minority.

I buy for the same reason, which obviously sends the wrong message to VEI.nycjadie wrote:I don't care for Quantum & Woody, but I get them as I am a completist and I like to try out all the Valiant books. As I did also until #13.But, I enjoyed Shadowman, so I must be in the minority.

Re: Why so much Q&W?
I stopped buying Q&W after the end of the regular series. Not interested. Don't even really care to finish the Delinquents which I got issue #1 of, but if I did, it would be for the A&A , not the Q&W. Just getting the essentials now which is mostly gonna be the ongoing series. Voting with my wallet.

Well I really enjoyed Valiant sized Q&W. I know Q&W isn't everyone's thing, but I'd recommend at least borrowing a copy of this book to read. It really makes Q&W must die look good.

Q&W brings in more casual comic fans to Valiant than anything else they could publish...

Re: Why so much Q&W?
personally, I got hooked on Valiant by their more traditional properties, X-O Manowar, Harbinger, and Archer & Armstrong. I had never read Q&W before and I honestly didn't expect myself to like it as much, but now it's one of my favorites and I welcome 2-3 Q&W books a month. but I can understand given VEI's 9 book limit that some fans would be upset since each Q&W book means another character that doesn't have their own series.

Re: Why so much Q&W?
I really like Q+W as a lighthearted piece of comedy entertainment, so I'm happy with it.
I also like (and I think this might be the key as to "why so many books at the moment?") that the characters aren't bogged down in some 25-issue-long overarching narrative - it gives the writers freedom to write a diversity of stories for the characters, which keeps them nice and fresh.
I guess Q+W aren't everybody's 'thing', but I'm happy with their books

I love Quantum & Woody.
I just read Valiant-Sized Quantum & Woody #1 and thought it was one of the better Q&W issues we've had so far. It's very, very good.

Re: Why so much Q&W?
Not to sound too "douchy" but I'm not really looking for a "I love Q&W" or a "I hate Q&W" answer. I'm just looking for an answer of why they publish so much Q&W stuff period. ?
It's got to be either a sales thing, possibly a high feedback rating on a questionaire, or possibly that Dinesh just likes them that much. Just wondering why they wouldn't fill the holes right now with a Hardcorps mini, or extent A&A a couple more issues ( thinking lack of sales on that though); or throwing some of their other properties out there in mini format (Secret Weapons, psi force, future force, maybe explore the rest of the AHunters ie control etc,)

I honestly think it's because Quantum and Woody are way more popular than we all think they are.Aomalle27 wrote:Not to sound too "douchy" but I'm not really looking for a "I love Q&W" or a "I hate Q&W" answer. I'm just looking for an answer of why they publish so much Q&W stuff period. ?

Re: Why so much Q&W?
Because it's easy to write short stories for them at the moment due to lack of overarching storyline, so the writers are finding them fun and easy to write hence lots of books?

Re: Why so much Q&W?
The title and characters are uniquely Acclaim properties. Q&W isn't derivative of older Marvel series in the way that, for example, Harbinger or X-0 are; it's also a satirical book, for the most part, and no other publisher has a title in their stables quite like it. Deadpool, I suppose, would be closest, but that's a stretched comparison.

Re: Why so much Q&W?
Short answer? Q&W was nominated for a large amount of comic community awards last year, significantly raising it's profile outside the Valiant community. (it was almost immediately after this that we started to see the projects ramp up.)Aomalle27 wrote:Not to sound too "douchy" but I'm not really looking for a "I love Q&W" or a "I hate Q&W" answer. Also, Q&W was remarkably popular in the late 90's/early 2000's, being the only book in the Acclaim line to grow in readership. (It's no accident that it and Shadowman, which had a video game out at the time, were the only ongoings brought back in VH3.) As such, it's more recognizable to casual Independent readers than say, Rai or Dr. Mirage (neither of which had been published since at least 1995.)
Overall, it's a mid-range seller for VEI in terms of Diamond sales, but Q2 got a pretty healthy numbers bump, so there's a certain logic in Dinesh's plan here.
I wonder what it would be like to be a lonely, muck-encrusted monster? Probably be an improvement.
