Valiant-Sized Quantum and Woody #1
This was a great bit of Valiant Christmas cheer! I found Valiant-Sized Quantum & Woody hysterically funny, well-written (especially in the second story's poem), and sweet too. The third story wasn't as good though. I liked it, and it was humorous, but it seemed a bit pointless, and didn't seem to accomplish all that much.

Can't wait to read this later today!
Before the haters chime in with how much this book sucks and doesn't fit with what valiant fans want, Q&W is my most consistently favourite book VEI puts out, and save for Ming Doyle has never let me down!

I personally love that Valiant has a few goofy comedy series' alongside their regular super-serious dark ones, as it makes the company more varied, and more fun. As for Ming Doyle, I, on the other hand, think she's awesome! One of my favourite Q&W illustrators! The Beyonder wrote:Can't wait to read this later today!

My comment came across harsh. I just didn't think she fit the book personally. I like her style on other books, but here it didn't seem to connect with the humour as well as the other artists who have graced this book.
(My personal favourite is Kano. And considering how much I loved Fowler's first arc, anyone who can beat that is pretty awesome!)

I did not preorder this. Is this the one where there is a Pere Perez-drawn story? How was it?

I thought this book was great, I was a little sad to see them dispose of Red Very Good Fox Champion Nice's corpse at the end, though, but maybe they dragged out that joke long enough. hopefully we'll see some other Valiant-sized specials, particularly of some characters who don't currently have a series.

Absolutely hilarious, every single story was great and I think I even spotted a Priest Q&W cameo in the multiverse

Re: Valiant-Sized Quantum and Woody #1
It does seem like they were doing a bit of setup in the third story/part. I wonder when that will pop back up.
I felt like I got a complete story here, unlike some of the 25th issues which felt like a lot of bits and pieces.

I hope we see Woodrow as a reoccurring villain in Q&W.
This book was a decent read in its own right, however it will feel much more relevant if the Q&W mini flows on from this. Hopefully it's 'in-continuity'.

Re: Valiant-Sized Quantum and Woody #1
I thought the first and third stories were the best. The thing they had in common? Written by Tim Seidell, not James Asmus. Realizing that he is not my flavor. For whatever reason, the small changes made by Seidell's writing of these characters and scenarios was spot on IMO. Funny, didn't see some lines coming, loved other random inserted lines that you don't see elsewhere. Clever, but not forced.
And PERE PEREZ FRIGGIN RULES! Wow, did he knock this issue out of the park, or what?!?!? AMAZING ART!!!

Happy to report that despite not being a Q&W fan, I liked this book. Probably one of my favorite Q&W books in a looooong time.

I haven't read it yet. This is the first VEI issue that I picked up off my reading stack and thought that I really didn't care if I read it or not. I'm not a huge QW fan, so maybe I'm experiencing a tad of QW overload what with the Delinquents, PB QW and now this.
But it seems to be getting nods here, so maybe I'll get to it this week.

Same here. Q&W is not at the top of my list of favorite Valiant titles, but this to me was the best Q&W issue so far. I liked the first arc too, but this issue was standalone good.jmatt wrote:I haven't read it yet. Maybe I should give this a look. Haven't really been digging on Q&W. I have been enjoying the new Priest run.

Re: Valiant-Sized Quantum and Woody #1
Okay, I have no idea why but I think enjoyed that issue as much or more than prior issues.
I think it's because it was lighter on the Woody as arsehole / super-miffed Quantum schtick, which I find tedious when overdone.

Re: Valiant-Sized Quantum and Woody #1
So, um, yeah, I really liked this. Wierd. It was my favorite issue since the end of the first arc. Woodrow is a great "villain." Making the world a better place one day at a time as he plots to destroy Quantum...Like a *SQUEE* up alternate dimension Harada
I dug it. The whole issue was much funnier than the last 12 I've read with Q&W (including Delinquents).
As for Woodrow being mad at Quantum when he should be mad at Woody: He never met Woody, nor did he have enough time before his Earth was destroyed to find out he was responsible. Meanwhile it was Quantum's actions that prevented him from helping both their worlds.
Oh, an Pere Perez rocks!

Re: Valiant-Sized Quantum and Woody #1
Meh. I still don't get the appeal of this iteration of Quantum and Woody, even when Asmus is aided by another.
And to top the idea that Woody should be a antipathetic lead, we have seen him a an untrustworthy self-centred criminal, and now culpable in the deaths of several people as a world is destroyed thanks to his incompetence. And even the writers acknowledge waving this away.
Putting aside the actual plotting/writing of the various Quantum and Woody series under Asmus, what occurs to me is that while the core premise of pretty much every other lead/team of characters could readily fit a movie or TV show vehicle, I really don't see how the frankly pretty crass premise of the character of Woody would every work in such a milieu.
It is great that some enjoy it, but personally I think it is an unworthy substitute for more Bloodshot, HARDCorps, Harbinger, Gen Zero, Archer and Armstrong or even a new Shadowman or Shadowwoman - a valid argument given VEI's self-imposed limit of books.

Q&W had consistently been my least favorite book. Delinquents as well.
But this one shot was an amazing "classic comic storytelling" with just enough humor. Not sure exactly what about this book really made it work for me, but it was an absolute standout for the month. Of course, everything has been knocking my sucks off this month!
