Dynamites New Properties
So Dynamite will be publishing new James Bond comics and new King Features Syndicate series.

I've said it once I'll say it again. Where do they get the money? The company doesn't sell near enough to be able to pay for all the licenses and creators to go with it. On top of that with 2 new licenses to push how long now for Dyna-key?

I'm confused by them publishing The Phantom. Hermes Press is publishing a Phantom miniseries starting this month by Peter David and Sal Velluto. Are there 2 different non-exclusive licenses?

There's usually a guaranteed minimum with these sorts of deals. I suppose if they get one hit, it will pay for 10 failures.

So does this negate what was done with Kings Watch and the most recent Flash Gordon series by Jeff Parker?
Leave it to Dynamite to scrap something decent and start over again. I hope these fail miserably like pretty much everything else they do.

Re: Dynamites New Properties
The King Features stuff is probably more "public domain" that didn't cost them anything.
I'm surprised they haven't tried to draw stories from the Bible and sell them to Hobby Lobby.

Re: Dynamites New Properties
Haha...but in all seriousness I'm pretty sure it's licensed. They announced it a while back when they acquired the rights to Mandrake and teased a Defenders of the Earth book, which later became King's Watch. I do wonder if some of their older stories might be public domain, though.greg wrote:The King Features stuff is probably more "public domain" that didn't cost them anything.

Re: Dynamites New Properties
So apparently some interview with one of the creators seems to suggest the Jeff Parker stuff is not being scrapped and these new books are continuing that. So I guess thats something.BugsySig wrote:So does this negate what was done with Kings Watch and the most recent Flash Gordon series by Jeff Parker?

Still not going to buy them though. The only reason I did the first time was because of Parker and he's not writing any of these.

Re: Dynamites New Properties
What sounds like a better product:
The Phantom 6 issue mini by Peter David & Sal Velluto published by Hermes Press
-or-
The Phantom mini, by Brian Clevinger & Brent Schoonover published by Dynamite
Which do you think comic shops will order more of? Unfortunately, I think the answers are probably different.

Re: Dynamites New Properties
Hermes Press is basically known for reprinting old newspaper strips of various properties, my guess is the only reason why their doing The Phantom with Peter David and Buck Rogers by Howard Chaykin is to help sell more newspaper reprint books and the fact that Chaykin and David are fans of both Buck Rogers and The Phantom doesn't hurt (and they might be willing to work for less than their normal rates).jeremycoe wrote:I'm confused by them publishing The Phantom. Even with that being the case, it's still 2 different companies publishing new Phantom books at the same time. That's a weird licensing deal.Cyberstrike wrote:Hermes Press is basically known for reprinting old newspaper strips of various properties, my guess is the only reason why their doing The Phantom with Peter David and Buck Rogers by Howard Chaykin is to help sell more newspaper reprint books and the fact that Chaykin and David are fans of both Buck Rogers and The Phantom doesn't hurt (and they might be willing to work for less than their normal rates).jeremycoe wrote:I'm confused by them publishing The Phantom. I don't think it negates Kings Watch since Lothar became The Phantom there and he's going to be the new series' Phantom.BugsySig wrote:So does this negate what was done with Kings Watch and the most recent Flash Gordon series by Jeff Parker?

I went looking for Lothar and found this. Phil Hartman's SNL audition. Interesting.
