New female fan
Hi, I'm new to comics. (Cheesy girl story: I met a guy who was into superhero stuff so I started watching SHIELD last Fall, which led to Avenger movies and other similar stuff and eventually comic books. I wanted to show him I valued his interests. Sadly, things didn't go anywhere with that guy but now I'm a comics fan! His loss!)
I mostly read digitally. I started out with a few Big 2 titles but was finding myself feeling hopeless about ever getting a full grasp on their universes. The long history, the zillions of characters, the major continuity issues with DC, etc. I was thinking about stopping. But then I went to DragonCon in Atlanta with a friend. I attended most of the comics related panels and they helped me open my mind to independent and creator-owned titles. So I came back and dabbled with some Image titles and then when comiXology posted the free 25 books on National Comic Book Day, there were quite a few Valiant titles available. The guy (see previous cheesy girl story) is a big fan of Valiant and had told me on several occasions about how great their books are. So I started with Bloodshot #1. I loved the story but the blood and profanity was more than I'm used to. So I tried Rai #1 and LOVED it! Since Bloodshot was on sale digitally, I went ahead grabbed them anyway since my gut told me I needed to give it another chance.
Then I grabbed the Humble Bundle because it was just too good of a deal to pass up!
I have read up on some of the history of Valiant and I have perused a few message board posts. I really love the small line with back issue inventory that is attainable and a continuity that isn't confusing. So Valiant has gotten my attention! For now, I am reading Bloodshot since I have them in comiXology and I prefer that format. And my gut was right. I am totally loving that story. I'm anxious to learn more about his identity and history.
So, even though I am new to all things geektified, I am pumped! This has been a fun adventure and I'm really excited about finding Valiant so soon into my hobby.

Welcome! When my wife reads books or watches movies, she seeks out female characters with whom she can identify. If you do too, there are prominent female protagonists featured in most (maybe all) of the new Valiant series: Doctor Mirage, Unity, Harbinger and Archer & Armstrong come to mind right away.

Welcome to the boards, a great community of fans here for sure. My wife doesn't like comics. She has tried but just doesn't care for the format. That being said even she thinks Harbinger is a great story, at least the first 4 issues that she read. So I highly recommend checking it out. I just did a series recap here if you'd like to check it out. I also cover a lot of other independent books along with some Marvel and DC

Welcome! There are a few women who frequent the boards here, and I think VALIANT has a nice female following in general.
I would definitely suggest Harbinger to any reader, female or not. You may also like some image books like Saga and Revival, among others. I also highly suggest Locke & Key from IDW...great series that just wrapped up after several volumes.

Welcome! My wife reads and enjoys comic books. She reads more DC than I do! But she also reads all the Valiant books.

Re: New female fan
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I have changed the subject line of my post because my question of "Do girls read Valiant, too?" was sort of meant to be tongue-in-cheek but I see now that it didn't come across that way. I guess I'm still surprised that I like Bloodshot. It just seems more like a guy's title. I'm not the masculine type of girl so if I showed my friends what I am reading, they would probably give me a funny look.
Nevertheless, I see how character driven the stories are and I am really happy to have found them! I don't know of any other female comic readers but if/when I ever meet any, I will enthusiastically encourage them to give Valiant a try. And not just the titles with female protagonists. All of it!
How long must I be a fan before I can *SQUEE*? Hehe!

Bloodshot is my favorite character of the VEI universe. There is just so much mystery around him. Bloodshot #0 is great. How far I to the series have you read?AmethystFaerie wrote:Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I have read through #7 so far but I have decided to put that on hold for a bit and read the titles in the order they were published. Just finished X-0 #1. Great stuff!lorddunlow wrote: Bloodshot is my favorite character of the VEI universe. There is just so much mystery around him. Bloodshot #0 is great. How far I to the series have you read?
