Armor Hunters: Aftermath Discussion
Dang... I wish that one didn't end. So much more set up to be seen, and I love stories that show the world changes after a major event like Armor Hunters.
M.E.R.O becomes G.A.T.E, GIN-GR wants to be friends, Helix is alive, kicking, and on the loose. Quartz is imprisoned (love the image of Bloodshot watching over him), and Unity has become the very publicized (loved Ninjak's reaction to the whole PR initiative) face of a joint initiative between G.A.T.E and MI-6 for planetary security.
Definite sense of transition here... I loved this issue, and can't wait to see what this "Unity Protected" world is like!

OH MY GOD
This issue was amazing! As I kept reading it I was constantly thinking "this is just like the first Ultimates." Just utterly fantastic. Unity is now the most modern super team on the stands. GIN-GR is adorable and sweet! And some of the Hunters survived! And others are in research facilities! I just can't wait to see this unfold!

Spectacular issue. Loved every single last little thing about it. Fantastic art by CAFU. Tight writing by V-Ditti. Wow.
What a great way to advance the Valiant U into a fresh new direction. Publicly declaring Unity as a superhero group for all to see. Awesome!!! Also loved Ninjak's reaction to Neville - a public announcement about a secret stealth operative. So ridiculous. Great little hint of Faith coming to Unity in there too
I'm so glad some of the other Hunters survived after all, can't wait to see how that plays out in future storylines. But seriously, GIN-GR stole the show here. The smiley face? OMG!!
I think I'm most excited about 'her' sticking around in the Valiant U - another awesome completely new character in a long list of great new characters created by VEI. Well done

Thought this was a great wrap up. Glad to see three of the Hunters are still kicking. Between the Vine invasion, the Hunters, and Harada's reveal, it makes sense that Unity goes public and that the public would want a team of people to defend them. It would also make sense for Unity to take on Harada again.
My only gripe is the big reveal at the end wasn't very surprising. We've already seen the life boat in action and it was even mentioned earlier in the issue.

Re: Armor Hunters: Aftermath Discussion
Good wrap up, and I LOVE Gin-Gr. I wonder if eventually the surviving members will reunite and leave earth. If Control has been destroyed, which is a strong possibility, they wouldn't necessarily come back to earth with reinforcements, especially if given the opportunity to learn that the armor can be controlled. They may choose to hunt other armors or try to convert rogue armor rather than hunt it down.
I don't think the last page was meant to be a surprise, Bugsy, at least in regards to the Love Boat. As you said, the boat has been known about and seen before. Any surprise was that they are publicly announcing a super team. I think the ending was an opportunity to present a western world "Unity" - united gatekeepers, so to speak. The world has changed enough to welcome eternals, space armors, and psiots (too bad they aren't ready for our robot overlords, aka Gin-Gr). It's a nice lead-up to Unity, story-wise, and may bring in a few new readers who jumped on board with the AH event but hadn't yet gotten into Unity.
Next up we'll see the backlash and face The United (after the #0 issue!).
Another good job by Venditti. The AH event was well done overall. I can't think of any other crossovers in recent years that I've liked as much.

Re: Armor Hunters: Aftermath Discussion
It's a new day in the Valiant universe.
The books are maturing. The characters forging themselves into a publicly acknowledged superhero team. The universe broadening in new directions.
I am so excited.
I think it's safe to say that it's possible Reebo is still a viable character. Perhaps they're in the process of trying to revive him (maybe even Lilt?).
Helix traveling through electrical cables? We may be seeing a foil for Livewire being born.
Fantastic art and writing. I am just so happy with VEI right now.

this is how an event should wrap up, by setting the new status quo for the universe from this point forward. not as a segway to the next endless crossover 6 months from now.
and I love that some of the Armor Hunters are still in play after all.

Re: Armor Hunters: Aftermath Discussion
A really pleasing wrap up.
I do like the G.A.T.E. change though. That said, I believe M.E.R.O. could one day resurface under new management.
GIN-GR was clearly the star of the show. The cover featuring her didn't necessarily mean it would focus on her.
I do want to eventually see what, if anything, is left of Control.
I also want to see if other Armors are still out there and if they are if the parasitic nature can be culled and the concept of other Armor wearers explored.
I'm curious who the "kid team member to get the female demo up" is referring to as a possible UNITY team member?
Do they mean Faith? We know she's coming but I'd wager she's a one arc appearance.

While I do think it was built up a bit much for the reader for what it turned out to be, it also wasn't a surprise for the characters in the book. Those guys watching the NASA site seemed genuinely wowed, yet it was established that the lifeboat was shown on TV across the country. Now seeing something like that in person is much different from seeing it on TV, but as I read it my expectation was for something new to appear on the last page. A fleet of Love Boats, for example.pixierosa wrote:Good wrap up, and I LOVE Gin-Gr. I wonder if eventually the surviving members will reunite and leave earth. My knowledge of hound controlling, whistling space dragons isn't all it should be, I admit it. But it's comics. If a mechanical space cow/talking spaceship can explode Mexico City with its head and fill its subways with a mouth attacking insect swarm, a space dragon might just have a second life. I know I'm really going out on a limb there, that's why I put in parentheses with a question mark.

I got the sense that was a cover story to be told to Gin-GR. We don't see them being tossed into incinerators, we saw them on some kind of lab table.Bone-A-Fach-ee wrote:Didn't Capshae mention that they were going to incinerate Primary and Lilt?jmatt wrote:My knowledge of hound controlling, whistling space dragons isn't all it should be, I admit it. Reebo was a good character with a lot to answer for. If I was plotting the VEI universe, he'd live.
