Valiant - Class of 2005

Post by k_c_collectibles »

Hey guys,

I had Bob Layton do a commission for me. It is called "Valiant - Class of 2005". This is the way the I see the Valiant Universe starting off fresh. There was only enough room for some of the characters so I had him draw my favorites - the group I consider to be the "core" of the relaunch. Please remember - this is only MY opinion and is in no way endorsed by the new owners whoever they may be.

I am VERY happy with it - all I could tell Bob was "THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!" Hopefully a few of you will like it as much as I do.

Wow. I love the little touches Layton put in - like all of the immortal brothers and Archer being put together. The bunny ears from Woody is great, too. You can still tell that these characters mean a lot to him. Great piece.

I think Bob did an AWESOME job to say the least. I suggested the positioning of the characters and the general poses like Armstrong drinking and Giliad looking at him in disgust and the bunny ears that Woody is putting on Quantum. However, Bob took it to a whole new level! If any of you are thinking about getting a commission from him he is GREAT to deal with!!

Yes - that is Torque. I really like the original Harbinger team!!! I only asked for Sting, Flamingo and Zeph, but when Bob sent me the prelim (with Torque and Kris) I thought it looked cool so I went with it! Here is the preliminary sketch he sent me.

He had to remove the menacing Master Darque head in the background as well as the Valiant compass I wanted on the floor due to spacing problems, but I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out!

That's a beaut, Chris!! It really looks like a group shot scene instead of just a drawing with a bunch of characters.

What a great piece of artwork!

What an eye for composition!

This is on par with the artwork Bob created for the homepage of his own website, IMO.

Has anyone else noticed that Bob's artwork keeps getting better & BETTER? He is truly mastering his art!---Steve

Shame about the Darque - Bob is one of the few artists that can master the silent, foreboding menace of the character just with a touch or two on the face...
