Hey everyone,
Thank sdcc I read this book a while ago. Great read and compelling story. However, I felt that it was a lot of build up without release.#2 should provide some relief for blue appendages.
My copy of plus1 will not be delivered until Wednesday.
Until then...
When does the next rai come?

Do you think it's "the" W.H.O.? :hm:

That was my first thought.
Ah. I was hoping it was some nefarious group that they were questioning Vester may be a part of. Nice way to tie it into the "real" world.

I enjoyed the book quite a bit also. I also got several of the plus editions. I always recommend people get these instead because it is so worth it. I think it was really important as to how he thinks of himself. That line where he kills everyone because he thinks they were all against him?! The man is a mass murder with no computations against killing people over what he wants. As long as he feels it's "right" it's ok. I also think the government involvement not to mention Toyo's is very telling. I also noticed where (I think) Hwen is... I thought that might have been a bit easy, if I am right of course. The poster for their show is cool as well. I like how she knows enough to be scared and isn't being stupid about things. Like I said I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Oh, okay so THAT was Darque! Haven't read Shadowman, hadn't really heard anything good about the revival so I haven't bothered reading it

But yeah, definitely interested in seeing where this new book goes. Just a bit bothered by the fact that it's only a five ish mini-series

I don't get these complaints about mini-series. Why should it matter if a book is an ongoing, a relaunched ongoing , or if it is a mini series, if the story and art is good? I really do not get it. It's like a vestige of a 1990s mentality.

I think people want the safety of an ongoing, to be sure the character will star in something month-to-month. Which in this case would be fantastic, but I'd settle for VEI teasing a sequel mini at some point or perhaps a future ongoing.

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but I don't think we've seen Darque in DM at this point.

I assumed that Darque was the one chained up to Mirage's client

Ah, gotcha now. Saw up above that you haven't read Shadowman yet. Darque is the main antagonist there. Rest assured, whatever that thing is chained up by March, it is definitely not Master Darque.

Yes, I was referring to what we saw at the end of Shadowman: End Times. Didn't love that mini, but it did leave me expecting to see master darque back on solid ground soon.

Plus, now that they announced the punk mambo one-shot... I'm really expecting a focus on the supernatural side for next year's crossover event... or maybe I should say: Hoping.

Doctor Mirage is just on issue #1 and I'm more interested than any Shadowman comic. Minus the issues that focused on Darque. I'm already invested in her struggle personally the mystery she investigates is ok. 8.75 [THUMBS UP SIGN][CLAPPING HANDS SIGN]

Finally had some time to read this issue.

What a great read.

The mood, pace & characterizations set forth here are all stellar, and easily on par with any of the best written issues from VEI to date. The dialogue in particular was truly excellent all throughout - all of it felt very believable coming from real conversational styles, nothing felt forced for the sake of exposition & plot advancement. This, in tandem with the very impressive & moody artwork by RDLT & David Baron puts this book at the top of the heap. This is the kind of supernatural storytelling I want to see more of in Shadowman.

Love the mystery around March & his motivations, with his 'only reveal what he needs to in order to get what he wants from Shan. Glad she is an intelligent enough character to see through that and judge his trustworthiness not on what he was saying but what she saw in his home.

Now, he mentioned something in a very off-handed manner, but I recognized the reference immediately and wondered if it was intentional. The line about the floor in his basement being recovered from a 'Black Lodge'. Is anyone here a fan of the David Lynch show Twin Peaks? The Black Lodge plays a big part in that show as it progresses. It has strong supernatural importance in that story - I've never really heard if it other than that either in pop culture or historically, but if this was an intentional reference to that idea... This series might be great. It's off to the strongest start of any VEI book since Harbinger, I'd say.

Is Jen Van Meter related to Cliff Van Meter, the 90s Valiant artist?

By pure chance, I happened across CVM's "Knob Row Profile" on the April 1993 Valiant Bulletin Board this evening (in X0MOW 15).

Anyone else try calling the phone numbers in the plus edition?

Spoiler alert! Nothing happens!

The 310 number goes immediately to a message that says "no routes found" and the 212 rings and rings and then it sounds like a dial up or a fax line? I was hoping there'd be a little nugget of something at one of these numbers. Even just an outgoing message from Dr. Mirage or something.

This book is going to compete with Rai for my favorite title. I love the character and the tone of the book. It has a heavy amount of mood and emotion. The OTV podcast nailed it when they said this is what I want from Shadowman. I am not sure what % is the art and what % is the storytelling.

The first 8 issues of Shadowman in VH1 drew me in because there was such a creepy mood to it and the new Dr. Mirage brings that into VEI.

Yep. It puts a new spin on the kind of character that March may turn out to be - if he is affected in any way by the kind of forces that are at play in the Twin Peaks Black Lodge, by having the floor of one installed in his home... :hm:

It's still cool even if it's just an intentional reference to the show without using any of the concepts behind it, though. :thumb:

Excellent issue!

I haven't read Armor Hunters 4 or Harbinger: Omegas 2 yet, but of all the other books, this is the Valiant book of the month. No doubt.

Can't wait for more.
