Multiversity
So I pretty much swore off DC after the New 52 and Valiant's return, but this has me intrigued:

Re: Multiversity
It is not really absolute control; he had all this stuff mapped out for years, and it did not stop Didio et al producing Countdown Arena which had its own tangents from Morrison's plan i am sure.dornwolf wrote:leonmallett wrote:I am going to hold out for the hardcover.

This is a spine for several concepts, but is a small scale compared tho the accrued issues of earth 2 thus far.

Oi... Countdown was such a mess, glad I skipped the Arena part. I was really excited for Final Crisis, and Countdown started it with a nice stain.leonmallett wrote:It is not really absolute control; he had all this stuff mapped out for years, and it did not stop Didio et al producing Countdown Arena which had its own tangents from Morrison's plan i am sure.dornwolf wrote:leonmallett wrote:I am going to hold out for the hardcover.

Re: Multiversity
This looks really interesting and has the potential for all kind of crazy stories especially with Morrison at the helm. However, lasting ramifications aren't really a thing with the big 2. It could guide some stories or a section of the DC universe for a bit but they'll change it seemingly on a whim when it's convenient.

So did anyone give this a look as issue one is out today. It was actually pretty good. The funny thing is he's pretty much doing a) a Crisis level story and B) a story way more fun than Hickmans Incursion stuff. So far the first issue more enjoyable and fleshed out than Forever Evil ever was.
Also President Superman, so much more enjoyable than the actual Superman

I can't fit it in to my pull list, it's six dollars and I've been trying to cut back because money is tight right now.

That's fine. Aside for the oneshot special issues which are just a neat marketing idea this will probably read as a trade better

I am fighting the urge to pull the trigger... kinda want to see if they can stick the landing on this. Great to hear that this is almost a Crisis level series. I saw some people say it's almost a continuation of Final Crisis, which deepens the intrigue for me.

Well it uses a few characters that grant made for final crisis. So you can kinda tell it was meant for use before the rebootKeith wrote:I am fighting the urge to pull the trigger... kinda want to see if they can stick the landing on this. I bought it the same day it came out. It's worth every penny I spent on it.
Yes, it's that good.

Got it, read it, really enjoyed it. Definitely continues the Final Crisis vibe, especially the Superman Beyond part. Will definitely be getting the other issues, though I fully expect DC to waste any opportunities coming out of this.

I don't expect anything but to be completely mindblown by the absurdity of Morrison's writing. Crossing fingers that somehow I understand wth is going on.

I see the FC vibe, but I raise you Morrisons' take on (and maybe farewell to?) super-hero comics through the lens of the DCU.
When this ends, i want to read FC and Multiversity back to back.
I may be reading too much subtext into it, but the cosmic threats to Earth 7 felt a little akin to his take on Lovecraft via his version of the Lloigor Many Angled Ones in Zenith, like he was nodding to his own superhero-writing career. If we see some Doom Patrol and Animal Man moments I will firm that feeling up.

Re: Multiversity
The second book of Multiversity came out recently. This one featuring the pulp heroes of Earth-20. It really makes you miss the JSA that's what I will tell you. I know that Morrison is writing these in a "pilot" sense as well that if they do well enough they could become ongoings. It's a solid book, way better than 90% of their output now. However I don't think this as a ongoing would be that great although they have the greatest team name ever in SOS.
On top of that all this event is really doing is making me interested in DC titles that use alternate universes. SO I've picked up Grants JLA:Earth-2 arc and Lord Havok and the Extremeists from Countdown.

Re: Multiversity
Although I forgive Morrision appropriating a team name used by Erik Larsen (I wonder if that was conscious or not, given the appearance of 'Dragoncop' in the opening issue?), his doing that did not mar my enjoyment. This was great stuff and Sprouse was perfect for the story.
Books like this, with this kind of tone could get me reading more DC. As it is, it may be my last foray into the DCU.

Re: Multiversity
Morrison has announced there will be a sequel Muliversity Too. Basically they`re are an infinite number of multiple universes. Release is probably decades down the line if the release of the last one was anything.

Did he use Freak Force? Or maybe Special Operations Strikeforce (SOS)?leonmallett wrote:Although I forgive Morrision appropriating a team name used by Erik Larsen (I wonder if that was conscious or not, given the appearance of 'Dragoncop' in the opening issue?), his doing that did not mar my enjoyment.
