Just to clarify, this is NOT a Batman hate topic.
and it is possible to be sick of Batman and still read Batman.

Re: Is anyone here sick of Batman?
In terms of comics i'll definitely have to say no because I really like the Scott Snyder Batman book and i've also been really enjoying Batman: Eternal.

Batman is the only traditional hero character I follow. It's my favorite hero book. I actually really like the new books. I feel like it's a new golden age for Batman. I don't love all the books, but I think it's pretty good time to be a Bat fan.

Re: Is anyone here sick of Batman?
OH GOD YES! I can't stand Batman in the comics. IMHO he's a jerk at best and a word that the auto-censor would censor out at worst.
I hate that his only real weapon is the money he has. I hate how the whole DCU now revolves around him, his stuck-up holier than thou attitude, that Bruce Wayne has no social life outside of the suit, no sense of humor, and he has the personality of a dead cat.
So it is with a sense of irony that I've always admitted too that at least two out of three books I buy and support are from his "family" of titles (and they are the black sheep of the Bat-family) which are: Harley Quinn and Batwoman and I enjoy them for all the reasons that I hate Batman in comics for. The only version of Batman that I actually like is the one in Justice League 3000 and mostly I enjoy his banter with the JL3k's version of Superman.
So yeah, I'm sick and tired of the damn Batman.

Re: Is anyone here sick of Batman?
Snyder's Batman, Eternal, Batman and Robin, Detective comics- all very good comics. And current ones.
Plus Batman is my favourite fictional character (not only comics). I also collect Batman stuff (toys, LEGO, mostly). BTAS is my favourite animated thing ever. I've been playing the Arkham franchise since the 1st game. I think this is one of the best times ever to be a bat-fan as pointed. I can only think of the late 80's as a better time in comics and Bat-mania in general.
So...
My answer is an obvious and respectful, "hell, NO!"

I love me some Batman. Overall hate DC, but Batman is second only to Spidey in my book.
I'm woefully ignorant of most of the comics, but what I have read, I've loved.
Dark Knight (Nolan film) is quite possibly the best superhero film of all time, in my opinion.

Re: Is anyone here sick of Batman?
I voted "No" in the poll because Batman is near and dear to my heart.
In the 1990's, I only collected Batman titles and nothing else. At one point I think I owned every TPB and HC that was produced during the early 1990's and I had over 5 long boxes with nothing but Batman related individual issues. I gave all the batman books to my kids and recently everything has been sold and the money put into their savings.
I now buy the Batman New 52 HC's as they are released, but I have to admit that I am behind on my reading. In August, I will be picking up Batgirl, Catwoman, and Batman and Robin runs, plus all the Death of the Family Die-Cut covers.
I also agree with Lorddunlow that Christopher Nolan hit a Grand Slam with his Batman trilogy.
Finally, my home office is decorated in all kinds of Batman and Valiant related items, so Batman is alive and well in my book!

Re: Is anyone here sick of Batman?
I too voted no. Right now is the absolute best time to be a Batman fan. The New 52 Batman is one of the best written Batman runs of all time, the Arkham games are amazing, the Nolan films redefined him for the movies, and he is dominating the toy aisles.
I do wish that DC would not have to have everything they produce be Batman related though. I worry that he will get overexposed and that people will become sick of him (as at least 5 people who have participated in this poll apparently have) He won't to me of course!
Although if you are sick of Batman, you were probably not ever a Batman fan in the first place!

I absolutely agree. They should keep him in 3 books, at most. And make one of them really kid-friendly but smart in a way adults can enjoy.nutflush76 wrote:I too voted no. Batman survived the worst era - CCA- of comics (in therms of creative liberty), the camp of the '66 show and subsequent backlash, the Shumacher movies (

He's an icon, more than a character. But he has a LOT of character.

Not sick at all, in fact ShadowTuga and his enthusiasm has made me want to start reading a LOT of batman I never have.
He's pretty much the only DC character I ever really loved, and hearing how great the new stories are, I am excited to read me some Batman again.

Re: Is anyone here sick of Batman?
Dear God, Snyder's Batman is fantastic. There was a 12-issue long Court of the Owls story arc which was super innovative and introduced brand new villains. Usually with superheroes (especially Batman) there isn't much fear of death, but I was legitimately frightened for Batman's life. First time I'd ever been scared that a superhero might actually lose.nscc wrote:Not sick at all, in fact ShadowTuga and his enthusiasm has made me want to start reading a LOT of batman I never have.

Death of the Family was only 5 issues, but it was a lot of fun, especially if you liked Ledger's Joker.
And Zero Year is just wrapping up. Haven't read the last issue yet, but it's looking to be another modern classic.

Re: Is anyone here sick of Batman?
I'm not sick of Batman, but I don't currently read any Bat-books. I have dipped in and out of reading Batman over my many years as a comic fan. I was onboard with the start of the New52, and really liked the Court Of Owls storyline. A pretty cleverly written tale that retro-added something completely new to the mythos, and I really like Capullo's artwork too. But I let the book go again after that.
Batman & the Doom Patrol are my absolute favourite DC characters, and the only other DC books I would still consider reading new releases of are Suicide Squad & the Legion Of Superheros. I do not currently read any new DC stuff (though I often pick up issues of whatever Parrick Zircher is drawing - I picked up Futures End #1 recently).

Mine was (not crazy movement, but certainly more crowded), due to a promotion (25% off everything Batfamily).kjjohanson wrote:Was anyone else's LCS crazy yesterday with the anniversary? There was also a guy who NEVER went there but felt entitled to ask for the free stuff (that my LCS still has to pay for, even if it is at production value).

The owner politely explained to him that a) Portugal is not the US territories, i.e, "Batman day" is more like "Batman end-of-the-month" and b) IF they luckily get any of the goodies, these will go straight to the regular customers, and even then, pullbox people have dibs. But he still got a free bookmark.

I can never get enough of the classic Batman. DKR, Year 1, Long Halloween, Hush, etc. It's not that I'm sick of him, but he is definitely OVER exposed. I agree with that, but I'm not sick of him. As someone else said, he's basically all DC has. No one else in their stable really makes quite the impact. The only one doing it nowadays is Harley, and guess where she came from, right?

Re: Is anyone here sick of Batman?
Hmmm, IMHO I would not put "Hush" right there along with those other works- Jim Lee is what made me actually re-read it several times. Jeph Loeb is a bit repetitive in his Batman tales, and the "Rogue's Gauntlet" is one of his most used tricks, imho. And he always gets GREAT artists. I like the rest of all of his Batman stuff though. I just think Hush was a thing that could have been much better. My opinion, again. Many people like it a lot.Bone-A-Fach-ee wrote:I can never get enough of the classic Batman. DKR, Year 1, Long Halloween, Hush, etc. It's not that I'm sick of him, but he is definitely OVER exposed. I just re-read what may have been the very first serious Batman story (Bronze Age) I ever read as a kid, the type of stuff that made me wait for the 1989 movie to be dark and cool as *SQUEE*.
It's "Deathmask" from Detective #437 (1973), which was reprinted here in '86 as a backup feature in the (then) brand-new Teen Titans (Wolfman/Perez) ongoing. A series that was my first DC "regular read" and that I remember as being one of the best comics I owned in my collection. I was a Marvel kid back then.
Despite this not being a GREAT story (incredible art by Jim Aparo, in - something I did not know- his very first work on Detective Comics) it's just an example of why this character is so great, I think.
He is seriously cool.
The second page is Bats beating bad dudes and it immediately brings that sense of "who the *SQUEE* needs superpowers?" to the table. I don't remember being awed by most of the stories themselves (most of them were villain of the week stuff, pre-COIE done-in-one stories) because I was knee-deep in Marvel continuity by then (at age 9, shocking even to me

It's so easy to make Batman awesome. And it's so easy to make him a jerk, also- lots of writers since the 80's tend to only focus on Miller's take on the character. And they only focus on the violent, gritty-grit stuff, not the deep psychological layers of those tales (anyone wants to start a discussion about these, I'm all in.

And you're absolutely right about Harley (who was not a comics character to begin, so there's that for DC). DC even tried to ressurect a character that never should have existed in first place because she is a feminine version of the Joker.
I completely understand someone (a non-fan) being nauseated by the ammount of Batman stuff ou there but hey- it's really easy to avoid.
