Cool. Just ordered one for $25. Are the single issues still selling well?

I think the most recent issue sold like 37K. I think the trades are selling well too.400yrs wrote:Cool. Just ordered one for $25. Are the single issues still selling well?

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I just read The Bunker #1 from Oni this evening. It's kinda strange, but worth the read. And it's a double-sized comic for $3.99, so it's like a buy one, get one. Apparently it's a reprinting of the first few chapters of this story that were first published on the web, reformatted for comic size. Not sure whether the web version is free.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I think the original version was released directly on Comixology. I don't believe it's available free. It is an interesting read, I'm not 100% sure whether I'll continue on. I got the first issue free (don't even know why).kjjohanson wrote:I just read The Bunker #1 from Oni this evening. It's kinda strange, but worth the read. I'm reading Injustice.
Pretty interesting. But it does seem I've read Supes v. Bats a few times before.

Saga, Chew, Ghost, X, Fables and the various Valiant books. I've given up on everything else. I feel as though Chew or Saga, depending on the month, give me the most bang for my buck these days. Valiant is Valiant, always dependable, and often breathtaking. Fables is winding down. I will sorely miss Chew when it's over in about 2 years. One of the great series. As for Saga, if you've not read it yet, find the first 3 trades-# 3 will be coming out soon-and hop aboard. The first "cycle" as I call it, just concluded.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Read the first 42 issues of Ennis' Punisher MAX run. Gotta say it is pretty amazing. The Barracuda run is fantastic, and the character Barracuda is a perfect enemy for the punisher.
The worst punisher MAX story was Kitchen Irish. Anybody wanting to read this run should just skip this trade. Utter crap

Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics
Re: What comics are you reading now?
I thought Kitchen Irish was OK......What was crap was Widowmaker, which comprises of issues 43-49 (Which you haven't gotten to yet).caxiotis wrote:Read the first 42 issues of Ennis' Punisher MAX run. You'll probably get the rest of Ennis's run for your own personal judgment, but I'd personally suggest going for issues #51-60 and skipping 43-50 entirely.....Issue 50 wasn't a part of Widowmaker, but it's a horrible issue due to Howard Chaykin's art. Completely ruins that issue.

I just finished Century West a graphic novel about the last days of the wild west by Howard Chaykin. It was OK but not great.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I just bought some mini-series packs from my store, namely "Bane of the Demon" and "Batman and The Mad Monk". Haven't read any of them, but heard good things. They also had one that I never heard of called "Batman: Unseen"- anyone here knows anything about it?
On my way home, there was a booksale going on in the subway station so I went and bought about 20 "portuguese edition" Batman comics for my son, mostly from the Knightfall era. I don't want to force Batman on him, but I got to try once in a while.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I've never seen an episode of the Walking Dead and until last weekend, had never read any of the comics. But I had purchased the first 2 TPBs a while back and finally got around to reading them. Anyone have any recommendations on the cheapest (legal) way to catch up on the rest of the series. Print, digital, doesn't matter; just want to read

There are compendiums with 48 issues each that again sells for about $35.kjjohanson wrote:I've never seen an episode of the Walking Dead and until last weekend, had never read any of the comics. Unless you can find the TPBs at your local library or can go sit in a barnes and noble for a few hours and read there.

I read my X-Men Days of future Past TPB/prestige book. I've never read it before, and I really liked it. I don't know that much back story on the X-Men, but I was still able to enjoy the story.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Just spent the last couple weeks catching up on various Dark Horse mini-series. In order or how much i liked them...
The Creep: Great Story. Have never actually collected this character's books, but i was familiar with him from way back when (i have a full run of the original Dark Horse Presents). Art on this series was kind of "meh" but the script was as good as i remembered and the story kept me guessing all the way to the end. I would definitely recommend this mini to anyone, but particularly those crime/mystery aficionados.
Kiss Me, Satan: solid story, good art (not in a superhero style though). Kind of reminded me of Criminal Macabre in tone and quality. Curious to see if this Character gets any new series in the future. Would recommend this to folks who like "supernatural" type stories.
Colder: Another solid story and good art (same artist as Kiss Me, Satan). This was very much a stand alone story but it was pretty interesting right from the start and kept my interest all the way to the end.
To Hell You Ride: Story was kind of "meh" but picked it up because the art was by Tom Mandrake. Mandrake delivers as usual but just couldn't get in to the story as the characters all seemed very contrived. Wouldn't recommend this series unfortunately.
On deck for future reading: 47 Ronin (art by Stan Sakai) and Breath of Bones: A Tale of the Golem (written by Steve Niles). Looking forward to both.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Dang, I've been forgetting to get 47 ronin.
Will try to get a copy next week, when picking my pulls.
Finished Bane of the Demon. Awful inking (to the point it reallly, really stands out as bad, which never happened to me), so-so art(hurt by that inking) and a story that might have been called "Talia T&A", such was the number of situations where FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON AT ALL we take a peek at the Demon's Daughter's wondrous shape. Bane is an impossible to root for character, and Ras is trying to release another apocalyptic virus that yadda-yadda-yadda-same-old-bs-i've seen a million times.
What a piece of *SQUEE*.

Zero #1 was really good. I'll check out the trade.
Undertow #1 - this is the first #1 issue that I couldn't make it all the way through in a while. Flip it at the shop and if the art doesn't do much for you, save your money.

I like how other publishers are doing $1 first issues...I've picked up a number of popular books that I hadn't read from Dark Horse and Vertigo. Y the Last Man seemed the most intriguing, I'll look to grab the trades...

Y is one of my favorite all time series. I've probably read it thrice. Look into the hardcovers if you are into keeping stories to reread. They are awesome.GGSAE wrote:I like how other publishers are doing $1 first issues...I've picked up a number of popular books that I hadn't read from Dark Horse and Vertigo. Can't believe you haven't read it already.
Amazon has the first HC for under $19 and the last four for under $23.
