It's a really good book i've been reading it in trade, I would recommend reading it that way whenever you do get a chance to check it out.lorddunlow wrote: First of all, I really need to start avoiding this thread. That is probably the one I am thinking of, Quantum Quartet, which is still a Married With Children thing.vikingspawn wrote:That might be "Quantum Quartet." It had 2 issues released at first and then one double sized issue a year later:Chiclo wrote:Not surprisingly, Married with Children 2099 3 is the hardest issue of the run to get. I was hunting for a NOW comics gallery. Did one ever exist in the DU section?
Did we have NOW comics checklist? I have one in my personal checklist.

Revival vol 1.
I still have mixed feelings on this book. It didn't work for me as singles, but I wanted to try it in a chunk.
I love the art and the design look of the book, but the writing is a bit lacking. The plot is very interesting, but the pacing is at a crawl. There are people coming back from the dead and there is a demon thing. That's about the whole story right there.
Where east of west told a pretty complete story in the first arc, this left me not quite satisfied and not really wanting to read more. The writing in other mystery type books like Morning Glories is better.
Does the second volume pick things up at all?

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Well, I read the first trade, and really enjoyed it, but I wasn't blown away, but started reading digitally as I wasn't sure about the series enough to put it on my pull. It just gets better and better with each issue. Great character focused book with a great underlying story/mystery. It is the first book I go to when it is released, and the book I look forward to reading the most (to see how the previous cliffhanger wraps up). Currently and consistently in my top 5 books I read monthly. I've decided to stick with monthly digital and pick it up in HC.400yrs wrote:Revival vol 1.

East of West is starting to show signs of overtaking Manhattan Projects as my favorite book. A few more issues like #5 and it will be cemented as #1 on my pull list.Elveen wrote:400yrs wrote:Revival vol 1.

I actually have you to thank, Elveen, for turning me onto Hickman by suggesting Manhattan Projects when I was first trying to expand my pull list a year or ago. Most of my favorite book are from him.

Cool.
EoW is really really good. I just hope that it keeps going. I want to get the complete story.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Just re-read the Long Halloween.
I still don't like it that much.
I have a hard time keeping track of all the characters, even though the reintroduce them every time they appear. I can't tell one crime boss from the other, even though the one guy has scratches on his face. I mean, I lose track of who is in control, and who is trying to take over, or is it, just that he's working for him secretly? Like I said, I get confused.
The parts with Harvey Dent away from the office are pretty good, and it's a nice retelling of his origin, but I don't count it as one of my favorite Batman stories.
Batman's cape bugs me too. The thing is a mile and half long. It would get caught in everything.
Catwoman's agility is insane. At one point she is standing next to Bats on a roof, and in the next she is over 6 feet in the air, completely upside down and presumably about to fly off the building and land safely who knows where, who knows how. It's just a bit too much. It would still take "some degree of effort" to move away from Batman, make the leap and clear the edge of the building, not to mention what she might do once she is out of sight.
But she presumably moves so quickly that Bats is left standing there wondering where she went.
I'm a little cranky today.

Even with all those critiques, it's still one of the best things Jeph Loeb has written.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I read a bunch of the DC villain books this morning. Some were good (ManBat, Killer Croc), others were awful (Doomsday), and still others were so-so (Joker's Daughter, First Born).

I didn't read ManBat nor Killer Croc.
Out of the ones I read, the only one I really liked was Ocean Master, and Court of Owls wasn't bad.
I noticed a lot of positive comments, on message boards, about the Ra's Al Ghul issue, but I didn't get that one.

I'm digging Year Zero, so far*. If there's one such thing as an "artist in shape", right now Cappulo is a prime example. I've been praising his Batman since issue #1, but his late work is *SQUEE* phenomenal. Can't wait to get my hands on his Bats designed action fig next spring.
I have a pile of Villain's books waiting for me tomorrow. We'll see about those, but hope is scarce.
* SPOILER FOR 23
Was really confused at the scene in the end. Had to re-read that twice to actually get it. Not a fan of the re-interpretation, anyway. Miller defined that scene in my mind, I don't f'n care about the technology gizmo that Snyder invented. That kinda was the first let-down moment I experienced in a Snyder written book.

I read some more villain books. Cheetah was OK. Scarecrow was terrible. I liked Arcane and Clayface. I thought they really built on the detail character traits and set up the story for more plot lines.

My store informed me that they decided not to pre-order Villains books for everyone. I was given the choice of getting them or not, which was cool. My answer was easy and immediate.
More money for Valiant comics. I don't care for selling these on ebay, I want DC to get their *SQUEE* together and stop *SQUEE* me with these special months. If Snyder and Cappulo leave Batman, I'm gone as well.

This week I picked up two weeks worth of new books. Not including Valiant, I grabbed;
Jupiters Legacy 3 - this series just amped it up ten notches with this issue. Anybody else reading it?
Lazarus 4
East of West 6
Revival 14
Saga 14
'The Star Wars' 2
Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time 9
Sex Criminals 1 - I went to school with Chip Zsdarsky

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I finished Punisher Max HC vol 1-3, along with Fury Max vol 1, a few days ago.
Punisher Max was a mixed bag. Some of it was great, while some of it was fun but flawed. The worst storyline, in my opinion, was the first storyline in volume 1. The best were the human trafficking storyline and the Russia storyline. I'm looking forward to eventually getting vol 4.
As for Fury Max vol 1, it was just OK. Fury Max vol 2 was great, but Fury Max vol 1 was, overall, a bit of a let-down.
Right now I'm on the Secret Warriors omnibus. After that, it'll be the first East Of West tpb. Mucho Hickman for me this week! Especially when Infinity #4 & Avengers #21 come out this Wednesday.

Pausing from my catching up on the last 3 weeks of books to chime in on East of West #6 - holy crap this book just keeps introducing badass after badass. The Ranger is such a cool character. A major showdown wild West style is definitely shaping up, and I cannot wait to see it!
This book needs to be a movie.

Still haven't read EoW #6 yet... I need a kick in the a$$. Someone here mentioned really disliking Dragotta's art style - I have to say I can't imagine why. I think it is absolutely stunning & suits the mood & atmosphere of this book so well I couldn't imagine it drawn by anyone else. It has a bit of an unexaggerated anime feel to it, in the vein of the Akira movie.lorddunlow wrote:Pausing from my catching up on the last 3 weeks of books to chime in on East of West #6 - holy crap this book just keeps introducing badass after badass. I agree, Revival #14 was good - some very interesting revelations about the white ghost things. I think anyone reading the series to date wouldn't be blown away by the reveals, I think we could see it coming, but I liked the idea of what happened when they mixed with water. Plenty of implications to explore out of that idea.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
My non-Valiant purchases from last weeks new releases;
Coffin Hill #1;
-New Vertigo book, holds lots of promise. Perfectly timed release for Halloween as it involves witchcraft & the 'cursed' Coffin family. Great debut issue, the art [this may sound odd] is like a blend of Lee Weekes [I'm specifically thinking of when he drew a story arc in Incredible Hulk years back] & a restrained Paul Pope.
Afterlife With Archie #1;
-Don't laugh, I haven't bought an Archie comic since I was about to become a teenager. I had no plans on getting this but after a flip through in the shop I couldn't resist. The art, while still cartoonish, is absolutely creepy & captures a really eerie mood for what otherwise should be a silly gimmick. It may not read well but seeing the final page where Jughead is turned into a zombie after being bitten by his infected pet Hot Dog was the clincher for me.
Lazarus #4;
-Haven't read this yet, but at a glance it looks as good as the first 3 issues. Really loving this title so far, its filled with edgy hard sci-fi.
Star Wars #10;
-Haven't read this yet either, but looking forward to it. #9 was a really great issue, with Leia discovering the man who designed the weapons systems of the Death Star hiding in a derelict Star Destroyer orbiting the remains of Alderaan. I continue to be impressed with this series set between Ep. IV & V. Its not a %100 perfect book, but very enjoyable as a SW fan. I don't read very many SW comics, they are largely unappealing to me.
Suicide Squad #24;
-Have not read this yet, I mainly buy it because Patch Zircher is still drawing it. I lost track of what he drew last month during the whole Villains thing as there wasn't an issue of SS to my knowledge. Matt Kindt just started writing it with this issue too, I'm curios to see what he does with it. This also happens to be the only DC N52 book I buy.

The art, while still cartoonish, is absolutely creepy & captures a really eerie mood for what otherwise should be a silly gimmick. It may not read well but seeing the final page where Jughead is turned into a zombie after being bitten by his infected pet Hot Dog was the clincher for me.
Lazarus #4;
-Haven't read this yet, but at a glance it looks as good as the first 3 issues. Really loving this title so far, its filled with edgy hard sci-fi.
Star Wars #10;
Suicide Squad #24;

Consider your a$$ kicked. Read it. It's really good. It just keeps getting better and better. I need more Rangers now! I agree with you about the art. I couldn't imagine any other art for this book.grendeljd wrote:Still haven't read EoW #6 yet... The Ranger is such a cool character. A major showdown wild West style is definitely shaping up, and I cannot wait to see it!
This book needs to be a movie.
Revival #14 was also quite awesome.
Yeah, they gave a little too much away in the previous 2 issues, but I have a feeling that there's going to be a lot more to the ghost things. There's really no way they can make this book a long term one, that I can see. I could see it wrapping up in about 50 issues tops. Probably less. Still, it's one of my favorite reads right now.grendeljd wrote:I agree, Revival #14 was good - some very interesting revelations about the white ghost things. I think anyone reading the series to date wouldn't be blown away by the reveals, I think we could see it coming, but I liked the idea of what happened when they mixed with water. Plenty of implications to explore out of that idea.
I caught up on Infinity/Avengers/etc. This thing is EPIC. If they reset like nothing happened, I'll be very annoyed, but right now, the crap has hitteth the fan. Awesome conclusion in Infinity #4 with Thor. I saw it coming a mile away, but it didn't diminish it one bit. This is a really fun crossover.

It kind of reads like the script for a tv show, doesn't it? I think it would be a cool one to watch. And yeah, there has to be some kind of ending in mind for this series, unless there is some other major twists coming along...lorddunlow wrote:Yeah, they gave a little too much away in the previous 2 issues, but I have a feeling that there's going to be a lot more to the ghost things. I just can't get into it. I have no doubt you are right about it being a great read, great concept, et al, but I'm just not enough of an Avengers fan to stay with it. Even the New U cameos with Starbrand & Nightmask aren't enough to pull me in. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that this will lead to a separate New U spin-off still. I would love to see that.lorddunlow wrote:I caught up on Infinity/Avengers/etc. This thing is EPIC.
