Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
No one read this yet?
I was really liking the direction of this arc, #10 in particular was a very good book, yet this felt a little forced to me. It was like the decision was made late to start wrapping up the run and the writer had to salvage what they could.
I wasn't a fan on the art, Woody looked like a lump of clay.
We also get a clear direction of where this series is heading...one more issue. Shame, I was actually really enjoying this series.

haven't finished the book yet but i can see what you're saying about the art. I think it's actually the colors that are mucking it up.
Not a bad issue (as far as I got in it) but i can see what you mean about being rushed.
I can't say QandW is my favorite book of the line which is a shame because it has so much potential. Funny is hard to write. Funny comics are even harder.
I did like the jab at "comics" being doom and gloom.

Is it seriously ending with #12? Why is Valiant so cancel-happy lately?

I think it's another hiatus situation, with Delinquents taking it's spot (and A&A).cdgodin wrote:Is it seriously ending with #12? Why is Valiant so cancel-happy lately?

All these comic companies love 1st issues now. I'm not expecting long runs on any of these titles. As long as they are putting out books I'm happycdgodin wrote:Is it seriously ending with #12? Why is Valiant so cancel-happy lately?

Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
I thought this was a good issue.
I liked how Asmus softened Woody's character (heh heh heh heh .. he said ... soft woody...) I thought last issue he was pretty scummy but he showed some vulnerability and I think it added to the character. I liked the scene between the 2 clones. I liked the flashback with young woody and eric getting in trouble. I thought it was a solid issue. One of the better issues of the run.
The art i thought was pretty good. It was expressive, cartoony and clean which is what I expect from this comic.
There wasn't a lot of LOL moments .. but i cracked a smile a couple of times. Thats not always an easy feat..
A little sad its coming to an end with the next issue. But change can be good. And I'm looking forward to the Delinquents.

Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
Agreed. Same thing w/A&A. Both are on hiatus as part of VEI's VALIANT FIRST summer initiative as a way to showcase characters in an intro style setting with Delinquents. Then come FALL, both books return to their numbering. I expect that'll be part of a late summer press release, perhaps also with Eternal Warrior coming back from hiatus as well cause all the Armor Wars stuff will have ended. That mini title for the event is why I think EW is on hiatus.grendeljd wrote:I think it's another hiatus situation, with Delinquents taking it's spot (and A&A).cdgodin wrote:Is it seriously ending with #12? As for the book itself I've not read it but will tonight. Not really worried about spoilers on this book.

Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
I think Q2 will take the place for 5 issues before we see the return of a Q&W regular series.
anyway, this book can be frustratingly inconsistent. i thought the last issue was the best of the series, and while the art this month wasn't back to the Ming Doyle level, parts of it (like the Edison introduction) were a step back, looking rushed compared to the rest of it. aside from that, I thought it was still a good issue, though.

Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
I took to twitter to see if I could get a response out of Valiant/Asmus. Valiant very quiet on the continuation of Q&W however Asmus said it was always intended to run 12 issues and then have a crossover, going on to mention quality over quantity.grendeljd wrote:I think it's another hiatus situation, with Delinquents taking it's spot (and A&A).cdgodin wrote:Is it seriously ending with #12? I suspect Quatum and Woody will still be around post Delinquents but not in their own book, more as a cameo here and there.
#11 was such a change of pace from #10. Wonder if it was always scripted this way or Asmus found out late that the run was to end at #12....

Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
I like this arc better than the second, but not as much as the first.
The art here was just OK.
Kinda glad it's wrapping up with #12 and then Delinquents and probably Q2 after that.

Liked the issue and the art. The change of art in the last few pages was a bit jarring, though. But I chuckled a few times and like the character progressions and interaction.

I think that bit was more for the setup of the joke about women being "weirdly sexualized" in comics, followed by the image of a woman shoving a sausage down her throat. It imagine that's meant to be a criticism of the issue, but I think it would come off better is Asmus hadn't named one of the female characters "69"ilzuccone wrote:I did like the jab at "comics" being doom and gloom.

Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
It's a tongue-in-cheek joke. I don't think it's saying that Q&W has overtly sexualized its female characters, just that comics in general have.
The art was okay, they have Kano working on the Delinquents so having someone fill in just to get these two issues out is fine by me. Shouldn't you all be glad it's not the artist from issue 5-8?
I'm so stoked for the Delinquents. Not just because of the crossover with A&A but also because of Kano's art. His use of color is amazing.

Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
No, I understand that. It seems to be a criticism of the fact that many comics does that, presented in a sarcastic manner. Which I'll say I did find funny. My point was that it's hard to buy that from a salesman who names a female character "69."Baramos wrote:It's a tongue-in-cheek joke. Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
Glad this is wrapping up, but I will say there seems to be a good story hidden in there somewhere.
It's not the worst book I've ever read. (I imagine they'll use my quote for the HC)
I think Asmus has a career in sound effect jokes. The "Slingblaad" one immediately after discussing Billy Bob Thornton was hilarious.

Re: Quantum & Woody #11 Discussion
Although not a fan of the book, this felt a little better than almost all of the preceding issues, and I had the exact same feeling of a sense of rush to warp stuff up, almost as if trying to draw the whole mess of random events together at the penultimate stage.Bl00dsh0t wrote:No one read this yet?

...
I have yet to read #12, but honestly, I think VEI pitched this wrong from the outset and wasted a golden opportunity. VEI are not Marvel, therefore they could never emulate books like Deadpool. VEI has a pretty sombre and dark tone across much of the rest of the line, and I think Van Lente has been the writer who has correctly judged how to push at that boundary without overstepping it. Archer and Armstrong has felt like a book that lives in the VEI universe, whereas Quantum and Woody simply has not, mostly based on its tone, at least for me as a reader.
