Re: Harbinger #23 Discussion - SPOILERS ARE ON (for now)
The theory that Flamingo has survived being burned before did make me think there's some misdirection.lorddunlow wrote:I agree. I just left my inane ramblings up for fun.bygranddesign wrote:The coda scene obviously happened before this issue. I would guess after the Perfect Day arc. I think there was a couple of months break between that arc and the current arclorddunlow wrote:
So, I'm leaving the above, but it just occurred to me in typing the above:
The only logical explanation for the coda scene is that it occurred before the events leading to Flamingo's death.
And I don't think her consciousness will live on ... I think dead is dead in this case. The Renegades will use her memory as a battle cry..
I think the speculation is over. I'd be very surprised there is any misdirection to this issue.BugsySig wrote:Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I'm still not sure flamingo is dead.
We've seen her regenerate from burns before.
We've seen her slow her velocity during a fall via thrust.
And, of course, the ominous, "Flamingo Lives"...
Plus Dysart has said one Renegade dies and one is severely injured after this...could Flamingo just be "severely injured"?
the coda fufilled the arc of the character.
She was completely toasted - Extra crispy. I think the gruesomeness of it should leave no doubt.
The Flamingo lives - is just Kris keeping her memory alive and using it as their battle cry
But...
The fact that she slammed into the ground from a very tall building after speeding up her descent which then shows her burned with internal organs missing doesn't seem like something her character could survive.

I took as a nod to this issue, mistyped, rather than identifying the issue that the quote came from as well.bygranddesign wrote:greg wrote:Hey bygranddesign, why does your signature have a spoiler for the wrong issue?bygranddesign wrote:Ha! Yeah! Nice! Any of those dudes in your head mosh?! - RIP Flamingo (Harbinger #12)I've always had that quote as my signature but I never included that the quote came from Flamingo. Now I just added the R.I.P Flamingo to my signature - If i don't black it out someone might read it and get spoiled by the RIP and know that she died in this issue. Thinking about it now .. someone might check that spoiler in my signiture not thinking that it has anything to do with this issue and get spoiled anyway...
I think i'll just remove the R.I.P ...
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

That was exactly my take on it, too. That little spray paint homage may be an obvious clue. Or this is simply what it is. Great story, tho.BugsySig wrote:Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I'm still not sure flamingo is dead.

Amazing issue. I was on the edge of my seat even after it happened convinced another death had to be coming.
Dead had better mean dead. I will lose a lot of interest in Valiant if they ever stoop to treating death like some sort of minor obstacle or inconvenience for their characters. Nothing cheapens a story more.

Re: Harbinger #23 Discussion - SPOILERS ARE ON (for now)
What a great issue. Flamingo's death just happened in the blink of an eye. And as someone else pointed out, there was no heavy mourning or grieving, the story just rolled on... as it had to.
I'll also note (as previously mentioned) that we've seen a new element in Dysart's style, the narrative. I really liked it and I'm sure it will help first time readers. And it really helped flesh out what was happening with Harada as he went orbital.
I can't imagine Flamingo lives after what we saw. Although no character ever used the word "dead", and in fact Kris tagged "Flamingo lives". Isn't one of the Gen Zero kids a healer? Cronus?
But I will say that if this is it, if this is the intended death, Valiant covers have gone from mildly detached from interior content to completely fraudulent.

Also, I have to know; were you tempted to throw the book across the room? Did you feel cheated? I wish I had a video of you as you read it.jmatt wrote:What a great issue. Then I read it. Not upset in the slightest, just very pleased with the entire thing. The coda was a nice way to soften the edge on Mingo's one real act of cruelty.

Re: Harbinger #23 Discussion - SPOILERS ARE ON (for now)
Seriously, every month's issue of Harbinger has been my favorite, and this one is no exception. What an incredible issue. My quesion is though, how is issue #25 going to be the Peter vs. Harada scene? They're already at it?
And I don't think Flamingo is coming back. Everyone's talking about how she wash turned to ash when her powers activated, and she healed from that. I don't think this is in the same league. That was a sunburn, she rinsed it off. I mean, she's totally gone. Dead means Dead. I don't think Cronus can help this one...

Where did he say this? That's interesting because I only saw a death and no one seemed to be injured otherwise - at least not seriously. Makes me wonder...BugsySig wrote:

Also interesting is that the flamingo bird has the scientific name of phoenicopterus as they are believed to be the origin of the phoenix myth. Maybe Dysart is mind-*SQUEE*ing us again.

Re: Harbinger #23 Discussion - SPOILERS ARE ON (for now)
I think the "severely injured" thing was referencing the results of the arc, not necessarily this issue. Certainly Pete is expecting things to not turn out so well. I imagine that most of the next issue is going to focus on what's going on with Generation Zero and Stronghold, and the aftermath of the remaining Renegades with the dead member, with small bits of Pete and Harada, and then we'll jump back to that confrontation in 25.

Great issue, congratsto KJ. Such a humble winner!
How about in issue 22, it said in this issue: A Renegade Falls
Now I'm betting Stronghold is about to get knocked off too. So much for those being Ion and Stronghold in the future (issue 20's) as Toyo's guards.
