I just saw a preview for an upcoming Alien Legion 4 issue miniseries, coming in June from Titan comics. The creative team is Chuck Dixon, Larry Stroman & Carl Potts!!!! Holy crap, I'm excited for this - I love the Legion!

Looks like Dixon wrote the second Alien legion series. That's cool.

Yeah, man! Dixon wrote (and Stroman nearly drew) pretty much every issue of Alien Legion from vol.2 #1 up until it died out, I think. I would love to see Frank Cirocco return to do some new covers (or more). And of course, Carl Potts is one of the original creators. Hope it's a good story. :thumb:

First Titan gets the license for new Doctor Who comics and now an Alien Legion mini with Potts, Dixon, and Stroman?!

This is going to be awe-some. :thumb:

If you can get your hands on a copy of the free 2014 preview book from Titan Comics, it shows the covers for #1 & 2, as well as 4 interior comic pages condensed on one page of the preview. Looks pretty sweet - tight artwork from Stroman.

Oh yeah. Stroman still brings it.

Thanks, I didn't know about their FBCD book, will definitely be on the lookout for it. Fortunately, checking my LCS' website, they already had this mini listed for pre-ordering so I've gone ahead and had them put me down for it . :thumb:

Yeah, it's looking just as good as the best work he ever did on the title in the past, I think. Now, if they could only get Cirroco to do some variants... :hope: :cloud9:

Fantastic, thanks. I hope they don't cancell it like DH. Also are there any plans for more issues if this works well?

I've only just seen the preview of this mini-series, I haven't read anything about it online. Hopefully it does well enough that they continue making more mini-series at least.

I would seriously love to see a gritty movie or tv series based on Alien Legion get made.

Just like the DH series, that almost happened then the plug was pulled because the company that was supposed to make it went bankrupt.

Nice review, thanks for posting! I'm getting really excited to see this title come back. If the issue count is correct in that review, the first issue of the mini-series will be the 50th issue of Alien Legion published (including the Grey Day To Die graphic novel). I'm pretty sure I have them all to date...

Yeah, great review, anticipation is running high now. :thumb:

During a time when Real Life intruded upon my comic reading, I never got around to reading Dixon-Stroman's AL: On The Edge miniseries nor their Tenants of Hell mini. How would you rate those stories?

I think On The Edge is the last really good story, I like it a lot. Without giving much away, here is the plot summary as printed on the back of the book;
Alien Legion: On The Edge wrote:Trapped on the event horizon of a black hole, Nomad Squadron must devise a plan of escape - a suicide mission for the core of Nomad - or become food for a vicious race of cannibals
I'd recommend you track that one down. Some of my favourite work by Stroman in there. The only downfall of it is that the plot resolves in a manner that changes the status quo of the setting a little, and in my opinion the stories that followed are a little weaker because of it.

Tenants Of Hell is the first follow up to AL:OtE, and it suffers from that change. I would still recommend you find & read it. It not terrible IMO, just not on par with the strongest stories. It's also the last series that Stroman drew.

The few books that followed are really not good - One Planet At A Time (3 books), a Jugger Grimrod one-shot (brutal, Ted McKeever-ish artwork that does not suit Alien Legion in any way), and Binary Deep, another one-shot published under the Epic 'Heavy Hitters' line that is essentially just 90's extreeeeeme awwwwwwwsome drek.

I was just thumbing through my AL set and discovered I am actually missing book 2 & 3 of 'One Planet At A Time'... I'm not terribly motivated to go find them, even though I have the full run otherwise.

I never read Alien Legion but was introduced to Stroman's work from his X-Factor run. Still one of my favorite artist and glad to see he's back to work.

I saw his artwork on X-Factor vol. 2 and it sucked big time.

Are you talking about his 90's X-Factor run with Peter David writing? I remember enjoying those issues a great deal back in the day :thumb:

Alien Legion generally remains my favourite of all his stuff [absolutely love Vol. 2 #5], though as it progressed there were getting to be some pretty silly looking random alien race designs thrown in there that took me out of the book a little.

Yes! I loved that run. I also really liked his work on Tribe. I haven't seen any of this work in recent years to comment on what it's like now but I'll definitely be interested to see it on Alien Legion.

I haven't seen anything of his in a long while either until this came along. I wasn't into Tribe too much, but I have an issue of it somewhere.

I just put the mini-series on my pull list at my LCS today. Really looking forward to it :)
