I've read it. Not as bad as Turok but Magnus still is stronger. They get around the while Phil Seleski who owns what problem by creating Erica Seleski his daughter and his son Colin Seleski so I'm beginning to wonder if we won't have Solar twins again, Erica good Colin bad.

On second thought... he may just raze Dynamite to the ground with his pure rage, so let's PM him to make sure he knows.

Re: Solar #1
My copy is on the way from midtown, but this synopsis does not raise my expectations. We need to start some sort of Kickstarter-ish project to raise money for VEI to buy the rights so someone can do the characters justice. How much could that possibly cost? $50, $60...maybe a hundred?dornwolf wrote:I've read it. Not as bad as Turok but Magnus still is stronger. Re: Solar #1
I just finished it. I'm giving a chance to the first arc of each series. With decompressed storytelling it's tough to judge on just one issue, but first impressions here didn't sell me yet. But then, I wasn't crazy about the first issue of Turok but I think the next two are a lot stronger as the storyline gets rolling.
Using "Erica" rather than picking another name seems to be a bit of

well, that read more like a 2nd arc than a first issue. it's as if Dynamite wanted to give the impression there had been a Phil Seleski Solar around for several stories but knew they couldn't really do that, so they hinted at a past career and then passed the baton.

Re: Solar #1
I don't necessarily have a problem with that. I think to die hard Solar fans it is paying some respect to the previous version by not pretending it never existed. THUNDER Agents at DC and Kirby: Genesis at Dynamite did this recently by basically continuing from the work of the original creators in present day.mateo107 wrote:well, that read more like a 2nd arc than a first issue. it's as if Dynamite wanted to give the impression there had been a Phil Seleski Solar around for several stories but knew they couldn't really do that, so they hinted at a past career and then passed the baton.

Re: Solar #1
I thought VEI owned Phil Seleski as a character?
That Raymond Solar was was what Random House owned as part of the Dr.Solar IP.
Didn't the Dark Horse run use Doctor Solar not Seleski?
And the clear use of Erica and the way the issue ended, I mean they are not even being coy about trying to grab us Diehard VU1 fans are they?
Still, it was an enjoyable enough issue and I had modest hopes for it.
My enjoyment of the DynaKey material is this:

Love the larrys comics gold key covers though. Nothing special
With any of the books not much story mediocre art but then
Just about everything these days outside of valiant, hickman
And A few image books is pretty sub-par. Thats why everyone
Has so many variant covers because the books themselves
Suck.

Firstly, it wasn't a particularly good read. The cover dress is horrendous, imo, that "Solar" trade logo is lame.
But I picked it up because I was interested to see what they might do with the character, how it might differ from what we've seen before, etc.
I was miffed when I saw they stole the name Phil Seleski. I could not believe they would have the balls to name a character Erica.
Are they trying to fool people into thinking they are Valiant? Former Valiant readers are likely to comprise 75% of their readership, and any that are still in the hobby are likely current VEI readers that were probably hoping that VEI would one day be able to re-introduce these characters back into the fold. They are unlikely to look kindly on Dynamite trying to impersonate Valiant.
It's idiotic. I won't buy another of these titles. I'm sorry I bought this one. DynaKey is gonna be a short ride. I predict it will not see November.

Re: Solar #1
Not a freat first issue, I'll grant you that. But not as horrible as Turok has been. Incorporating a more logical approach to that character than previous versions. Like that they're trying a new concept to the character, making him the result of his own doing, with repurcussions for his faulty equations. A long way to go, to make it a readable monthly, but this is one that shows promise. Hoping Dr. Spektor hits it out of the park next month, without a bonafide read, this line will sink quickly. Magnus is good, Solar okay, and Turok horrible. You need another good book otherwise....

there track record works against them. 8 or 12 issues max.
