Re: idea for Shadowman
Interesting read. The letter is pretty frightening and surreal. Sounds like the ramblings of someone possessed by an evil Loa spirit. They never caught the Axeman ... Maybe the Shadowman got to him.
I'd definitely like to see more stories rooted in the history of New Orleans/Louisiana with a more grounded sense of terror. This seems to fit the bill .. Plus the psycho was into Jazz music. Seems like a nice fit for a Shadowman story. Nice call.

That is a freaking cool idea, Brother Darque.

For my Valiant: Kindle Worlds stories, check out my amazon author central page, http://www.amazon.com/Richmond-West/e/B ... 204&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Had I stayed on the book, I'd have gotten to the Axeman eventually.

Damn! I had no idea that The Axeman was a real serial killer in New Orleans! Definitely would have been a great fit in Shadowman. Sorry you didn't get the chance to tell that story, Justin.JustinJordan wrote:Had I stayed on the book, I'd have gotten to the Axeman eventually.
Has anyone else here watched the third season of American Horror Story, "Coven"? It was set in New Orleans, the Axeman was a character in it, & was most certainly derived from this person...

Hey, Justin! I miss your work on Shadowman, I think it's the best work done on Shadowman. I loved it and I miss you on the title.JustinJordan wrote:Had I stayed on the book, I'd have gotten to the Axeman eventually.
I only started collecting VEI a few months ago, and it was after you left. So I read your work all in one sitting and was blown away. Can I ask why you decided to leave the book? Or is that a private matter? I just didn't know if, at the time, you had given a reason, like if you had said you wanted to do other projects, or if you got tired of Shadowman and wanted to move to something else, or what. Just thought I'd ask.

Shadowman 10, wow, that is possibly my favorite Valiant issue...great story! And the owners of my local comic shop, who aren't even big Valiant fans, raved about it when I was gathering the back issues I had missed.

The axeman story, since it's apparently a famous New Orleans story, and wow does it seem to fit, looks like it's crying to happen. I bet a writer eventually tackles that.

Re: idea for Shadowman
We had a poll a couple of months ago for favorite single issue of VEI for 2013 ... Shadowman #0 won by a decent margin. IMO, #0 and #10 go hand in hand if I had to do it over again - I would have listed the option as Shadowman #0/10bamaphilosopher wrote:

I really liked the early "small ball" stories (as opposed to grand epics) where Jack was fighting rogue night murderers and gators and such. He was the back alley Dark Knight of New Orleans.

No, it's fine to ask - I was too busy to out in the time the book required - I was actually going to leave earlier than I did, but I like working with Valiant and stayed on until they were ready to make a change. I'm still doing stuff with Valiant* - in addition to that thing in XO that's been announce I have a few other things in the pipeline.
*Indeed, even outside of just liking the people there, they took a chance on me before anyone else did. Valiant was the first company to hire me after I broke into comics, and letting me work on rebooting one of their biggest characters was an amazing show of faith I'm still grateful for.

But it has to be named that. Otherwise I'm not buying it, because I won't be making enough in royalties to cover the cost of buying a single copy of the comic
