Hello,

My Valiant story started with seeing the previews for the Nintendo comics in an issue of Advance Comics. I'm thinking I asked a local newsstand to order them for me because there wasn't a comic shop in my area at the time. The nearest shop was a little over an hour drive but I do remember making the trip, once a month or so, by the time they started publishing X-O, Solar, Magnus etc..

I bought all of the Valiant titles through the first two years or so before dropping the line (I don't recall why exactly) but over the years since I've picked up most of the issues I missed in the "cheap bins" many for a quarter or fifty cents. I also acquired a lot of the Acclaim that way as well, though I did purchase the Unity 2000 issues, that were produced, new off the rack.

I was excited to hear about Dark Horse's/Jim Shooter's relaunch but we all know how that turned out.

Anyways, when it was officially announced that Valiant was returning to publishing, I ran to my local comic shop and asked them to start a pull with everything they published. Sad thing is, I've somehow gotten behind on my reading (about eight months behind!!). My to-read pile is over fifty issues deep. To put this in perspective, the next three issues on the top of the pile are Shadowman #10, Quantum and Woody #3 and Eternal Warrior #1. I've got 17 comics to read before I get to Unity #1 !!!

I'd like to get caught up soon so I can join in on the conversations without risk of major spoilers. I've also been a listener to Only the Valiant since the first episode and I'm behind on those for the same reason.

Thanks for the story --- it isn't often we hear about those who saw the previews for the Nintendo books as their earliest introduction to Valiant. :o

I see you have 13 posts, but in case I haven't already said this in the over 10 years that you've been a member... WELCOME TO THE BOARD! :thumb:

Welcome to the boards. It's fun here as long as you steer clear of the Canadians.

I recall. It's because some months after Unity ended, the grand voyage began it's long, slow death spiral until it eventually crash landed on Planet Acclaim, whereupon the indigenous fauna ate everything we loved. Fin.

That's what I was thinking! That's amazing! I thought I had almost everybody beat because I picked up Magnus #1, but wow, you got into it through the Nintendo stuff? That's an awesome story.

Agreed! I was going to say, "I know why. Because they started to suck!" I quit myself somewhere between Chaos Effect and Birthquake, after reading such a sucky Archer and Armstrong issue that I couldn't believe it. And then my former college roommate, who had gotten me into Valiant, had already quit, so that took the wind out of my sails, when he said, "You're still buying Valiant?" I sighed, and came to the decision to stop. The magic was gone.

Thank you, everyone, for the warm welcome!

It's been a long time and my memory may be a bit off. I do remember being disappointed in the direction Magnus started to take in #25 and that I dropped that and Rai soon after. I'm pretty sure I stuck with both Solar and X-O for maybe another six or eight months or so but had finally dropped the line before Chaos Effect began.

Over the years I have gone back and reread a lot of the earlier stuff as well as a few things I missed the first go around (Ninjak, Timewalker and HARD Corps) but, while I own most of the issues, to this day I still haven't read anything else Chaos Effect or beyond.

I listened to OTV #119 and #120 today and plan on reading Bloodshot/HARDCorps #14 and Shadowman #11 tonight. I really want to get caught up before the start of the Armor Hunters crossover.
