Yes, giving how the prices reversed quickly off the bottom. I think the low is in, and it will probably hover around this new range. I entertained going after a few copies around the $300 mark, given how 'critical' I've been regarding the price that should tell you the market felt they were cheap. Haha.greg wrote:There was a pretty steady stream of them as regular auctions (starting below the average) for a while.StarBrand wrote:The current listed copy is now at 352.95, including shipping. It seems Harbinger 1 in CGC 9.8 is strengthening in price, after potentially bottoming at 300.00 or so. That's great to see, as I still very much believe in this book.
The market bottomed as a result of too many sellers and not enough competition among buyers.
Even in a string of sales, none were below $300 and the 90-day average is $330 before tonight.
Prices could drop again, but it would probably require another steady stream of regular auctions (starting well below the average).
I believe that a few key Valiant books from the 1990s will be strongly pursued in the next few years.
Once they reach 25 years old... they will be "long established" in the market and should be pretty solid going forward.
Harbinger #1 is definitely near the top (or at the top) of that list. It turns 25 years old in less than 3 years.

1st post updated. 2 more copies added to census.
Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Mycomicshop has lowered the price of one of their copies to 407.00, so they now have two copies in separate listings at 407.00.StarBrand wrote:Mycomicshop has two copies listed on the Bay right now. One at 429.00, one at 407.00.

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Mycomicshop lowered one of their copies to 395.00. It looks like they perhaps systematically lower prices on slabs that don't sell. I never noticed this before.

I've never seen 'em do that before, either.StarBrand wrote:Mycomicshop lowered one of their copies to 395.00. It looks like they perhaps systematically lower prices on slabs that don't sell. I never noticed this before.
If they're not getting hit up (i.e., interested parties), they just close it and relist later...sometimes higher than it was originally. Never seen 'em systematically lower.

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
We're at a sort of standoff on this book on eBay. No one wants to pay the 395.00 for the cheapest copy there, and one hasn't come up auction style in awhile. The 395.00 isn't really that much more than the last one closed at that went auction style.

CGC 9.8 SS for $495 BIN. I think the last one sold for $1200. Someone PLEASE buy it so I don't have to.

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Seems like a good chance to rant over ebay. I'm getting irritated by their profiteering. They have introduced a new "service" where they collect the import charges plus a fee upfront. According to my calculations, the fee usually is as much as the import charges themselves and this auction is no exception. So they make a huge profit from just filling in an automated customs form. And that is only when they actually are asked for the import charges, something that doesn't always happen as customs can't chase all packages. So quite likely, if a swede were to buy this comic, that would mean $120 straight in the pockets of ebay's partner, on top of what they charge the seller. Really wish there was some competition.iggy101us wrote:CGC 9.8 SS for $495 BIN. I think the last one sold for $1200. Someone PLEASE buy it so I don't have to.

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Hey Magnus, it's impacted my buys as well. Fortunately not every seller uses the global shipping program, but if they did they would see a large gap in sales. I also find the shipping charges to be higher (which makes sense if the package is essentially being shipped twice) of these auctions, so it's a double whammy. It makes a pretty big different when I consider a $20-30 book that might cost a US buyer $5-8 dollars in shipping, but it costs me $25-30 in shipping/total.magnusr wrote:Seems like a good chance to rant over ebay. Yup, that buyer would be me. I dropped well-over a grand on a Shooter/JayJay SS last Fall.iggy101us wrote:CGC 9.8 SS for $495 BIN. I think the last one sold for $1200. Someone PLEASE buy it so I don't have to.

So $495 BIN is a STEAL and honestly quite annoying as IF sold, this sale alone stands to cut the potential value of my book (which I won't sell) by a significant margin.

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
I might contact the seller and see if he can remove the auction from eBay, and perhaps work a deal behind closed doors...
Sucks, because just 2 hours ago I cut a great deal with a VEI artist for several things that basically cost me 2-3 times the BIN of this Harby #1 SS, and my wife already thinks I stopped collecting comics several years ago and there are only so many $500 deals I can do a week without waving a giant flag saying SUPER COLLECTOR on it (judging from the amount of framed art and slabs around my home, you can guess how intuitive and observant she isn't...). Still have a pending slab deal(s) with Jay (aka Bloodshot) too.
I had sort of hoped that the chapter on Harby #1 9.8 SS was closed.

How long ago did that one sell for $1200 for? Around what were regular Harbinger 1s in CGC 9.8 going for at that time? Thanks.

Looking back, it was actually $1,100 on 8/28/2013. Regular blue labels were around $500.StarBrand wrote:iggy101us wrote:CGC 9.8 SS for $495 BIN. I think the last one sold for $1200. Someone PLEASE buy it so I don't have to.

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Thanks for the knowledge drop. So, it sold for a multiple of around 2.2 of the regular blue labels at that time. If blue labels are at around 350 right now, that should put this at about $770 based on that previous sale.iggy101us wrote:Looking back, it was actually $1,100 on 8/28/2013. If I didn't feel like CGC has really lightened their 9.8 standards I would probably grab it. Recently I've seen more and more 9.8s that I'm like...wtf? It's not really fair to the genuine 9.8s that are out there...StarBrand wrote:iggy101us wrote:CGC 9.8 SS for $495 BIN. I think the last one sold for $1200. Someone PLEASE buy it so I don't have to.

I should buy, but I'm just not sure I can justify spending that much more from my recently purchased 9.6 SS Shooter. I told myself if I could sell my 9.6 I'd come up the with extra to buy the 9.8 - as it signed by Shooter AND Jackson which is worth it to me. I don't want to let myself buy it without selling first (would likely catch serious flak from my wife as well if I did).

And there is also that to consider...GGSAE wrote:If I didn't feel like CGC has really lightened their 9.8 standards I would probably grab it. It seems like a good deal, but i am personally not into signed comics. If you offered me this or just a blue label i would take the blue label (all else being equal).
