I've been told that the new Cap movie is amazing. I was already looking forward to it, but even more so now.

The previews make it look like the best solo Marvel film since Iron Man. Looking forward to it a lot.

I believe that if it wasn't actually confirmed, there has been vast amounts of speculation that that would be the case.Brother Darque wrote:i was looking at the IMDB page of Elizabeth Olsen and she's listed as being in Captain America Winter Solder:

So, went to the Marvel friends and family screening last night* and, as promised, pretty awesome. I'll be seeing again after it opens, probably in IMAX.
*I have a friend who works in the Marvel sales department, so I've been to a few of these screenings. It's pretty cool. Usually Joe Quesada is there introducing the movie. Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan were there to help promote it. When I went to the Iron Man 3 screening, Robert Downey Jr. showed up.

Re: Captain America: Winter Soldier
Saw it on Saturday, and it surpassed my expectations. I say that as a fan of the Marvel movies, and of the last Cap movie.
The story did not sag, it grabbed my attention throughout, even during the most significant expository scene; it managed to include several recognisable comics antagonists in one form or another; laid ground work for future Cap and possibly even spin-off movies; the action was well handled; and ultimately it has adjusted the status quo of the MCU at its main conclusion.
Loved it.

Definitely need to see it again, or several more times, to find all the easter eggs.leonmallett wrote:Saw it on Saturday, and it surpassed my expectations. I say that as a fan of the Marvel movies, and of the last Cap movie.

One cool bit (I don't think this is at all spoilerish regarding the movie, but maybe about what Marvel Studios has in the works, even though this has been discussed in industry news: the mention of Stephen Strange as one of the people that has been under observation. I need to double-check who else is mentioned in that scene

I think that was the only mention of a character not yet included in the MCU IIRC.kjjohanson wrote:Definitely need to see it again, or several more times, to find all the easter eggs.leonmallett wrote:Saw it on Saturday, and it surpassed my expectations. Just got back from seeing it. I thought it was a pretty awesome movie. From the action sequences to the film's message about secrets, security, and freedom, and all the Marvel easter eggs between, everything was fantastic. If I had one complaint, it would be that a lot of the action was too fast for 3D.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

One question that I have (spoilers only for those who haven't seen the movie yet): I haven't seen the Agents of SHIELD show. What does the movie mean for that? Has it been cancelled or is there going to be a major shakeup?

I enjoyed the movie a great deal. I love all the little nods to marvel history. Marvel should make all comic book movies based on the results so far!

Re: Captain America: Winter Soldier
When I read the comic books, I can not imagine how Captain America can take down platoons of soldiers, tanks and aircraft. I believed that that would look ridiculous.
Marvel proved me wrong. That initial scene where Cap stormed the ship, that looked highly believable. Even more believable than Batman taking down criminal gangs. And when Cap downed the SHIELD aircraft. And the elevator scene. WOW. A whole different level of action filmmaking in those scenes.
The trio's fight with SHIELD and the Winter Soldier is so un-superhero movie-ish, it looked amazing.
My favorite Easter Egg is when Cap fell into the water while Bucky was trapped in an exploding helicarrier. What a nod to the original death of Bucky in comics.

There were some great Easter Eggs. The mention of Dr. Strange, Sharon Carter, Abed, Stan Lee... But my favorite was the Bible verse on Nick Fury's grave stone..

-eh- Semantics. It's a solo flick the way Iron Man 2 was a solo flick, Falcon = Rhodey but cooler and Black Widow played a better role.kjjohanson wrote:Except it wasn't exactly a "solo" outing.IMJ wrote:I honestly thought it was the best Marvel solo outing yet.... seriously.

As for SHIELD...
-SPOILERS INVOLVED IN MY SPECULATION BELOW-
I had previously speculated that the "Clairvoyant" was M.O.D.O.K., but then I thought that it might be revealed that the "Clairvoyant" in that show was actually Arnim Zola from Cap 2, given his algorithm and it's use in Winter Soldier. But now the last episode sort of sets it up that it's an inside agent, but I suppose with this week's tie-in it could still be Zola considered how he was used in Winter Soldier.
Either way though, the demise of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Winter Soldier might mean that Coulson's team goes independent until S.H.I.E.L.D. is reinstated.

Re: Captain America: Winter Soldier
Great movie! Really curious to see how this ties into Agents of Shield, even though I don't watch the show. I'll probably catch up when it hits Netflix or whatever.
Very pleased they didn't feel the need to kill off all of the villains - Winter Solider, Batroc and Crossbones are all still alive for future appearances! For a while, I felt like Black Widow might be a traitor, since she has been a double/triple agent in the comics at times.

I greatly enjoyed this film, after feeling somewhat let down by IM3, and only felt that Thor 2 was enjoyable. Capt 2 was really good, and exactly what the industry needs to raise the bar for films yet to come.

Re: Captain America: Winter Soldier
Just got back from seeing it. Man, they really took the gloves off. It was like a Jason Bourne movie, surprisingly violent for comic book fare. It makes Captain America 1 look like a Care Bear episode.
The fight scenes themselves ran on too long (maybe I'm just getting old) but the choreography was amazing.
It was interesting that there are a few shots of the Watergate Hotel in the movie, especially with Redford in a lead role.
Disappointed to see Jasper Sitwell portrayed as a bad guy. Oh well. Nick Fury's tombstone was hilarious, a nod to his role in Pulp Fiction, especially since it ends with him heading off to walk the Earth (kinda).
I loved the overall theme: Government surveillance = Evil. Great movie.

Crazy action, solid casting, and engaging story line. I loved the Easter Eggs especially the Pulp Fiction nod.

The scene with Fury trapped in his SUV was awesome, too.
