This thread makes me hope that Cary Nord finishes my sketch soon. I can't wait to see his take on the original Unity 0 cover!

I just received this in my email. I commissioned this from Bob Layton and get to pick it up at the Salt Lake Comic Con next month.

Looks good. I've always liked Bob's art style.

Are you going to broadcast doing it like you did with cards?

I'd watch that :)

That Lee Garbett one is the bomb! The Nord ones are great, but I've seen them multiple times before.

Yeah, but you gotta admit that the one Carson commissioned (where Nord basically redrew Carson's original fanart drawing) is pretty spectacular. Talk about an amazing drawing with an impressive personal connection! :thumb:

Carson,

That is an amazing sketch by Nord! I've seen it when you posted it before, but every time I see it again I'm blown away.

Thanks! It was my first commission ever and I'm pretty sure I'll be buried with it :-)

It really was a special experience for me to meet Robert and Cary, host a Valiant panel (@NC Comicon 2012) and get these commissions done for the board. Good times!

Yeah, this is seriously one of the best, most creative commissions I've ever seen. Who's idea was it? Yours? Or did you just ask hm for something, and this is what he returned to you? Amazing, every time I see it.

Thanks! I originally drew this concept (Aric as a Visigoth warrior before the armor and as XO Manowar after the armor) for Valiant's #fanartfriday twitter contest. Here's that drawing:
Image

I think it communicates that at his core, Aric is a fearless fighter. Armor or none he'll charge at you full speed.

Shortly after drawing that I set up a bunch of ValiantFans commissions with Cary at the 2012 NC Comicon. He and Venditti were gonna be there. When it came time to describe what I wanted him to draw for mine, I showed him my drawing and elaborated on the idea. He liked the idea and agreed to work with it. I was beyond excited!

His commissions far exceeded my expectations. I keep them at work now and look at them 5 days a week.

This was my first ever commission and the experience was awesome! Cary and Robert were very approachable and down to earth guys. It made me happy to know the talented guys behind the comics I love so much are great people too.
