It would have been nice if some long term narrative was established by the end of the arc

Is this super team calling themselves Unity?

Who exactly will be part of this team long term? (Why would they want to be part of a team?)

Is there some mission statement that outlines their long term objectives and purpose? Will they be working with MI-6 or the United Nations or the Cia? Where are their headquarters and who is deciding the missions?

It didn't have to be a "I'm Shadowman" moment .. but it would have been easy to create this long term narrative in an organic way. The world is getting more dangerous. There are alien threats. There are Psiots coming out in the open. There is black magic and monsters creeping out of the shadows - The world needs a super powered team called Unity to keep everything balanced and in check.

Ok, long term narrative established. Lets get on with the stories....

I would rather prefer to see those pieces come together slowly. I mean, they know Harada is a threat, but there's been no obvious need for a Unity outside of that so far (at least enough of a need to overcome their differences). Maybe by the end of the second arc that will be established.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

I agree with KJJ, this will likely unfold over the next arc.

I think it was alluded to that they will act as a check on these new emerging threats like the Vine, Harada, Psiots, Armor Hunters, etc.

Ninjak also suggests he and MI:6 (who Gilad has also worked for in the past) will act as Aric's leash, so they are likely involved. Based on the preview pages for #5, Livewire appears to be working with Ninjak on an MI:6 case.

It will eventually get there I guess but it would have been nice if some basic structure was created after the first arc (I did notice that Livewire said Unity team in the current issue of XO)

In the beginning, It seemed like Harada was going to run the Unity show which would have made some sense since he has the organization infrastructure, leadership experience and POWER to command a super powered group like this but he already has been re-established as the "bad guy" again. So now the team is going to follow Ninjak's lead? I don't see that lasting. Gilad makes some sense as the one running show but he has not been strongly depicted in this series so far and has pretty much taken a back seat. He seemed much more bad *SQUEE* and impressive in the "Wrath of the Eternal Warrior" arc.

Great issue.

On page 8, did Livewire just basically taser the guard with his own watch?

Yes, she did. Pretty cool extension of her power set that ties it back into her VH1 version.

For me this was a satisfying conclusion to an enjoyable opening arc. :D

The not-exploding-heads from Harada may be thought of in another context.

Harada clearly plays long games. Precogs exist (Bleeding Monk as one example of course), so in terms of his long term strategy he may see everyone as a potential asset at some point in the future; those that have more credible potential utility may be purposefully spared, while assets that he has little precog or other intelligence to suggest they are of significant use may be dispatched summarily. I could easily see Gilad and Ninjak seen as potential future assets in such a scenario (assuming the right leverage; and Harada clearly is often able to apply leverage), so why waste them? If he saw them as true threats to his own survival I believe that in this scenario they would be eliminated immediately, but just showing there can be another way to look at it. :D

Yes, it was a good moment except for the watch switching hands from left to right which was pretty sloppy (how does that happen?).

XO is still showing in the ads for the next issue which surprises me as I thought his involvement was done (in Unity)? I'd like to know who the long term main characters will be in this book, I guess EW could appear as his monthly title takes place in the future.

That does make a lot of sense for a manipulator character like Harada who also has godlike power. If he doesn't kill them he can use them later, and they aren't enough of a threat for him to be worried about them actually hurting his activities much.

From one of the interviews with Kindt, it seems as though Ninjak, Livewire and Gilad will be mainstays on the team, while additions members rotate in and out. The first arc it was really Harada who was the fourth member. The second (and Armor Hunters) arc it's Aric. After that it could easily be Bloodshot, Shadowman, etc.

I'd love to see Shadowman down the road. Use Doctor Mirage as the main Supernatural character and Shadowman as an urban legend they go in search of because...reasons.

Shadowman could use not only the exposure to fans who may have left the book but he's one of the few main VEI characters yet to interact with the others.
