Kathryn Bolinger, alive and kicking.
Hi guys!
I've been lurking a few weeks, already made a couple of friends here... decided to open the door and poke my head out. I am, by nature, a skittish creature, but reading your posts, this feels like an interesting, knowledgeable and supportive Valiant Tribe. I shall settle here and pitch my tent.
Apparently, I flew so far under the radar and off the grid that some people thought I had died. So. Here I am, alive and well.
Kathryn Bolinger, Valiant inker and colorist... illustrator and writer. Post-hibernation, blinking in the sunlight and stunned by how much the world has changed while I slept. It is nice to see such lingering love for the pre-Unity Valiant universe; I had a lot of behind-the-scenes input at that time, young enough not to mind that I wasn't credited for much of what I did. I was happy to be working and learning in such a creative environment, and surrounded by talented people willing to teach those of us so eager to learn. It was a great time to be part of the Valiant engine, a wonderful and terrible time... a smorgasbord of unbelievable rewards and hard lessons for a wide-eyed college graduate, so far from home.
Now it's 20 (really, almost 25) years after I first stepped into that cold warehouse loft studio and introduced myself to a room full of strangers huddled over a table strewn with half-colored Legend of Zelda pages... "grab a brush and show us what you got" they said. I sat down and started painting.
These days, mostly, I write. But after a decade-long hiatus, I am drawing again and curious enough about the new face of Valiant that I found myself here.

Hello and welcome. Don't mind the boys; they get a little rowdy sometimes.
It will be interesting to hear a female perspective on Valiant and the business in general.
Chiclo -- I believe Kathryn's pseudonym is a play on "conundrum".

On the average day, I do wear the fanciest pants a man could get for less than $10 a pair at the Wal-Mart, though.

Re: Kathryn Bolinger, alive and kicking.
Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Kynundrum is a play on conundrum (yes, pixierosa) and the name I use these days: Kyn Un. While working at Valiant, Jen Marrus dubbed me "Kyn" by shortening my name... and I married a man with the last name Un. We are celebrating wedding anniversary seventeen this year. So, I've been Kyn Un a long time.
I still answer to Kathryn, Kat or Kyn. Choose yer poison.
For those of you curious (and those who have contacted me directly) I do have inked and colored pages that I intend to sell. I'm not quite ready to offer them up right now, but when I am you guys will be the first to know. I promise to make pages available here first, before I list them on ebay or sell them to a dealer. I try to price my work fairly, but I sold a lot of pages to a dealer about a month ago... and it seems they were worth considerably more than he paid me for them.
So, I have some market research to do.
You can see the those pages here: http://www.anthonyscomicbookart.com/Art ... istId=2204
That said, there is a big difference for me between selling pages to a fan who loves my work and selling to someone who sees the pages in shades of green. I'm doing an inventory right now of my inks, and will post a list of titles and issues I have available. Requests for specific pages can be made at that point. After I get the inks catalogued, I'll start working on the colored pages. And, I do commissions.
But, all that in time. Right now, I'm just really enjoying being a part of this group and getting to know all of you better.

Re: Kathryn Bolinger, alive and kicking.
Welcome Kyn! I can't wait to hear more of your stories from the Valiant days. I think it's so amazing how creators from old and new Valiant come here to share their experiences and interact with the fans. I talked to a Comic store owner yesterday and he said " I never realized how dedicated and passionate Valiant fans are". I think part of that is because it comes through the people that created it all. Also very excited to see what artwork you have as well. Nothing better than getting art straight from the artist

I think Anthony's prices are ridiculous, but I always wondered how the artists fared from these deals. Disappointing to hear.
