This one was very good for me, not so great for those that are expecting value from variants. I realize the actual scarcity is a somewhat dubious proposition, but still:

I got the character design variant off the shelf for cover when it shipped. But I never saw the "1:50" variant at anything but normal 1:50 prices.ckb wrote:Ugh. Re: VEI Price Report - Discuss / Document Valiant Prices
Well that's interesting! The book is all but designed to sell for $200 as an incentive to NOT return copies of Unity #1, so to sell 10 of them for $125.99 seems a bit odd to me. ESPECIALLY with the amount of orders that would have needed to be made to get that many 3-D Unity's!jaden_sai wrote:Looks like impluse dropped their price to $125.99 + $4.00 to ship.iggy101us wrote:Unity 1 3-D cover. How exactly does one get their hands on 10 books, that haven't even made it to retailers yet, and that many retailers won't qualify for in the first place? Do they own 10 shops and just feel like selling low?
At any rate, not a bad price for anyone looking for a copy. I got mine for $200, so this is a deal (UNLESS the issues are mucked up

Re: VEI Price Report - Discuss / Document Valiant Prices
I am sure Impulse Creations will not lose money if they sell them at $126 each. They probably already made enough money selling the regular issues and various other Unity 1 variants. Impulse Creations is one of the retailers drmirage researched on a while ago. It seems like they order books based on customer pre-orders. They are probably just trying to make sure they get rid of their copies before other copies are listed on eBay.DirtbagSailor wrote:Well that's interesting! Re: VEI Price Report - Discuss / Document Valiant Prices
Makes sense, if they have already recouped their initial investments in Unity #1, then they could sell the 3-D variant for any price really, and by selling early for 65% of expected market value, 1.) they ensure they will sell the books by being the first to offer, but in doing so the 2.) cause the value to drop due multiple low prices sales in a short time-span, which 3.) hurts VEI's plan for retailers to sell the 3-D variant for $200+ as an incentive to not return unsold copies of Unity #1.iggy101us wrote:I am sure Impulse Creations will not lose money if they sell them at $126 each. I could be wrong, as sales and economics are certainly not my field, but it seems as though this action hurts the potential value of this book before it gets the chance to serve the purpose it was created for.
I was happy to pay $200 for a copy, because I personally felt that that number was the basel-line value needed to ensure that somewhere a retailer WOULDN'T return his orders, and in a strange way I would be supporting VEI's Unity push as a result. (That and I was butt for sling the Bleeding Cool 3-D auction in the last 15 seconds...).

Re: VEI Price Report - Discuss / Document Valiant Prices
As collectors, we are concerned with the value of individual comics. From a LCS point of view, they are more concerned about managing cash flow and having money available for the next wave of comics they are ordering in the future. I am sure looking back now, Impulse Creations would've taken the $200/comic credit. Something changed (market or what they plan to order) and they want to have extra money to buy something else that they think they can make more money on.DirtbagSailor wrote:Makes sense, if they have already recouped their initial investments in Unity #1, then they could sell the 3-D variant for any price really, and by selling early for 65% of expected market value, 1.) they ensure they will sell the books by being the first to offer, but in doing so the 2.) cause the value to drop due multiple low prices sales in a short time-span, which 3.) hurts VEI's plan for retailers to sell the 3-D variant for $200+ as an incentive to not return unsold copies of Unity #1.iggy101us wrote:I am sure Impulse Creations will not lose money if they sell them at $126 each. Re: VEI Price Report - Discuss / Document Valiant Prices
I've seen mistakes made by the distributor on picking orders wherein multiple copies of incentive variants are accidentally shipped to the retailer. I've no idea if that happened here, of course. Impulse sure does order lots of VEI books. As a note, I'm sure VEI is aware of all the support Impulse gives them, too.
As an aside, in the old days, the original Valiant gave lots of help to their biggest customer, Greg Buls at Kingpin Comics. Buls would order over 20,000 of single Valiant issues at times, often using inside info given out by the original Valiant before ordering such large quantities of a book. Kingpin would occasionally pass that inside info on to top customers, who would order a large quantity of the book Kingpin was taking down a massive amount of. I may or may not have been invloved in that. But, I digress.

Re: VEI Price Report - Discuss / Document Valiant Prices
$200 is the cost/trade-off for stores that ordered 100+ copies and still have 100+ copies that could have been returned.
$200 is the MAXIMUM that any store is "losing" by retaining their 100 copies of Unity #1... and it assumes they never sell another regular copy.
If they decide they can sell Unity #1 for $0.25 each, they'll make $25 on those 100 copies and can sell the Unity #1 3-D variant for $175.
If they decide they can sell Unity #1 for $1 each, they'll make $100 on those 100 copies and can sell the Unity #1 3-D variant for $100.
Etc.
Stores that ordered hundreds of copies AND sold hundreds of copies don't have those hundreds to return.
They get one copy of the Unity #1 3-D variant for free, for each hundred... no cost at all... because they weren't going to return those books anyway. They sold.
Those free Unity #1 3-D variants are theirs to sell for any price... even though there WERE 100 copies of Unity #1... they're gone. The 3-D variant is a bonus.
Stores that ordered at least as many copies of Unity #1 as they did X-O Manowar #1 will get at least one copy.
Since Unity #1 sold 68,500 and X-O Manowar #1 sold around 40,000 to 50,000... most stores are going to qualify.
Those stores that ordered 1 copy of X-O Manowar #1 and 1 copy of Unity #1 will get a copy of Unity #1 3-D variant.
How much do those stores have "invested" in the Unity #1 3-D variant? $2?
If they already sold their single copy of Unity #1, then the Unity #1 3-D variant is free.
Stores who are getting free copies could sell the 3-D variant for $1 and make 100% profit.
It's unlikely that any store will sell their Unity #1 3-D variant for $1, but ANY price at all would be profit for those stores who already sold the regular books (whether it's one copy or 100+).
Any price between free and $200 is a completely valid selling price for the Unity #1 3-D variant... depending upon the situation of the seller.

Don't forget the 1:100, 1:30, . . . variants that they may have already sold. So in theory, they can sell then 3-D for negative dollars and still make money.

Re: VEI Price Report - Discuss / Document Valiant Prices
In many areas of the country the 1:50 was shipped to retailers like it was the pullbox. I walked into my LCS that day and was met with a stack of 50 1:50 variants, I nearly crapped myself. The owner called around and they were given out that way all over the area.kjjohanson wrote:I got the character design variant off the shelf for cover when it shipped. On the other hand, we received no pullbox character design variants. There was a plan in place to fix that and get shop the pullbox variants they ordered, but months later it was still not really happening. I know some shops did finally get them, but many did not. I've never seen one in person.
Because of this mis-distribution it is generally easier to find the 1:50 than the pullbox.

For those who are interested in ordering from Impulse Creations, here is a topic I have created not too long ago:
http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewto ... =1&t=38164" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not sure on why the 3D Cover is $126, but its the lowest we have seen so far.
As I remember, the prices on title specific (non line wide) variants are:
1:100 = $69.99,
1:50 = $34.99,
1:25 = $17.49,
1:20 = $13.99,
1:10 = $6.99
Also, you will not be charged order ships.
One thing I really like about IC is the condition of their books. If there are any damaged books 9.4 or less, they will accept returns.

Wasn't that Atom!'s slogan for the promotion?
All I know is that I'm glad I didn't leap at the 1:100 and 1:200 the week the book was released.
