Hi there! Complete newbie here!
Hi all!
Complete Valiant Newbie here! I picked up the $5.99 Valiant Must Read volume and things sort of spiraled out of there... It was so great to be completely immersed in this crazy new world!
On my next trip to the shop I picked up all the latest jumping on points for all the titles, and enjoyed seeing the breadth and depth of what was on offer.
I ordered the Harbinger and X-O Manowar hardcovers and pretty much devoured them. Also read the Harbinger Wars and my jaw was dropped pretty much the entire time. Unity had just been amazing.
I now have Harbinger, X-O, Eternal Warrior and Unity on my pull list. Next month I'll pick up the first Eternal Warrior and Quantum & Woody trades. Also eyeing up the Archer & Armstrong HC.
I've been mostly a Marvel zombie for the last 15 years, along with a smattering of creator owned titles. However I have sampled other shared universes from time to time, most notably the late Crossgen. I like shared continuity and I like high production values on a comic and I think I have found that again!
On another note, I'd like to dip into some of the old material, but not sure where is the best place to start. I did download Rai #0 on Comixology and couldn't believe it was an early 90s comic!
Anyways, just thought I'd say hi and let you know that some new readers are coming in!

Welcome!
Try reading the pre-unity original VALIANT then unity. After that there are a few books worth continuing like the BWS Archer & Armstrong and Eternal Warrior and Harbinger through #25. The Bob Hall Shadowman is also a great read and XO isn't bad after Unity but fell off rather quickly.
Happy reading

Welcome to the boards. It's fun here. You should avoid the Canadians at all costs. The only sure way is to help me eradicate MarkRoseHFX.
Only then, will you prove your worth.
Great to hear Valiant picked up a new fan. Lots of exciting stuff happening with the Valiant Firsts announcement.
I would suggest picking up some Rai - the flipbook issues on the backs of Magnus would have to be picked up in old floppy form from the back issue market (I'm sure someone here could hook you up) and the early Rai ongoing is great. I say this because Rai is coming back in May!!!!

Welcome, Domixt!
Always nice to see brand new Valiant fans find their way here.

Bugsy made pretty much the best suggestions to dip into oldschool Valiant - anything pre-unity you can find, Archer & Armstrong by BWS, Bob Hall's Shadowman run, Harbinger up to #25 & I liked XO mostly to about the low #30's... these are some of my top favourites as well.
I also enjoyed Eternal Warrior up to around #20, and Bloodshot is also pretty entertaining through #20, plus the last 12-15 issues or so.

Re: Hi there! Complete newbie here!
Nice to have you!
I came back to Valiant a while back when I had an itch to aquire many of the classic Valiant books from the early 90's.
Well, I did that, but ALSO read a bit of the new stuff that has been released since 2012.
I have to say, Harbinger, X-O Manowar, Archer & Armstong, and Bloodshot ARE MUST READ, and to be honest, better than most of what has been published in the last few years.

Welcome!
Rai was an excellent series. Really looking forward to the relaunch. Another book that has been retooled and is going to relaunch this summer is Dr. Mirage. The basic premise of the original series is similar to what we've been teased. You might look into reading old issues of that. I haven't read the entire series but enjoyed what I did.

Welcome!
All Preunity Issues
Unity
Archer and Armstrong 0-12/13(of 26).
Quantum and Woody (all) (Acclaim)
Shadowman (all)
Dr. Mirage 1-13+(of 18).
Rai (all) Magnus (all though later issues could be very disappointing)
There's other great stuff, with the general rule across the board that most things go down hill at various speeds after unity though.
I'm a big Dr. Mirage fan and I concur. It took a bit of a dive after Changs' run ended with issue 13, but it was only "meh" and not really "bad" for the last 5 issues. My personal recommendations for the best/better of Old Valiant is;pixierosa wrote:Welcome!
