So there are a few books that are now officially in a shared universe. Some of these look pretty good like FVLs Brain Boy.
It also sounds a little like the original VALIANT universe with Captain Midnight playing a role like Solar, while DH Originals and other licensed properties are worked in.
I don't really afford to pick up a whole other shared universe, but I may give a few of these a try.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm cutting out all DC books, so I can afford to keep these and the Valiant stuff. Glad to see they are not going to abandon it.

Re: Dark Horse Heroes unite under "Project Black Sky"
Okay, so I've just finished the #0-#2 issues of "X" and so far I'm really enjoying what I'm reading here, it's not perfect by any means but it's highly enjoyable and highly violent and really screams "vigilante" which is something I really enjoy. The story a bout "X" killing the Three Piggies was really interesting and the girl that seems to be a focal point of this story is really enjoyable too, I'm digging this violent hero and I'm really thinking that this book is going to become a personal favorite with time.
I'm going to be reading Captain Midnight next and then Ghost, I'm really digging these books so far and I hope the other titles were as strong as "X" was.

There's a gatefold of that art printed inside the Dark Horse Sampler comic from SDCC.Brother Darque wrote:i'm fallowing Captain Midnight and it's great.

Re: Dark Horse Heroes unite under "Project Black Sky"
I like Brain Boy. I liked the original Brain Boy and this current incarnation is a fun retooling of this old, forgotten character.
I like Catalyst Comix so far. Amazing Grace was my favourite of the old Comics Greatest World imprint. I also forgot how much I liked Warmaker.
I kept buying Ghost. I wasn't that into it but I just could not quit buying it. And I will buy the next (mini?) series when it comes out.
I dropped X last month. Not my style.

I just read Brain Boy #0…
All I've got to say if that Van Lente is awesome. The customer service scene was one of the most awesome things I read in comics in a long time. Now I need to track down the rest of the series.

Re: Dark Horse Heroes unite under "Project Black Sky"
this looks interesting to me, I'm waiting for the Captain Midnight trade to try it out and may start getting it monthly with the event this summer.
question: are the Dark Horse characters rebooted or does it continue from the original series?

These books are a reboot. Not connected to the books from the 90's. I'm getting X and Captain Midnight. CM was a pleasant surprise for me. I like X but I admit some of that is due to nostalgia from the old series.

Re: Dark Horse Heroes unite under "Project Black Sky"
Just read the 4 #0s I got on DH Digital for free. Brain Boy and Captain Midnight were my favorite. I might actually pick them up. X was OK, but didn't give me enough about the character or his motives. I didn't think Ghost was very good, but it has potential.
They also have a "Super Sampler" for free that features all of those minus Brain Boy, as well as Black Beetle, Sledge Hammer 44, The Answer and The Victories. Are any of those part of "Project Black Sky"?

The original X was very interesting. I spoke to DS briefly about X, and he said he wanted to make it very different to the original. Which he did. Boy, did he ever.Chiclo wrote:I like Brain Boy. Re: Dark Horse Heroes unite under "Project Black Sky"
I don't think so. I think the only books that have been published so far that are part of is are Brain Boy, Captain Midnight, Ghost, X, and Skyman. The 0 issues are collections of the stories featuring those characters in Dark Horse Presents. There's also a Blackout story in DHP that's part of the universe. I think that's it. I haven't read the new Catalyst series yet, but I don't think that's part of PBK, even though it was in a shared universe with X and Ghost in the '90s. Yeah, I looked it up after and I guess those 5 books are it. Blackout as well, but that may not become an ongoing. Apparently The Occultist will be a part of PBS, which is odd because its a Gold Key property, right?kjjohanson wrote:I don't think so. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. This list (http://www.comicvine.com/public-domain- ... 015-55750/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) says that Captain Midnight and Brain Boy are both in the public domain. Same might be true of The Occultist.BugsySig wrote:Yeah, I looked it up after and I guess those 5 books are it. Blackout as well, but that may not become an ongoing. I guess start with the 0 issues (which compile their DHP appearances). I don't think there's been much actual crossing over as of yet. The only real connection is that Brain Boy works for the same company that Captain Midnight founded. So no reading order necessary except that Sky man first appears in Captain Midnight.Keith wrote:Was thinking of checking some of these out... is there a good starting point or prefered reading order?

Pretty much this. If you're an A&A fan maybe start with Brain Boy, since FVL writes that. I haven't read Ghost or Occultist yet. Up to date with Brain Boy and most of X and Captain Midnight.BugsySig wrote:I guess start with the 0 issues (which compile their DHP appearances). I'm reading the rest of Brain Boy now and I'm pretty impressed. FVL is doing a great job. If it wasn't at Dynamite, I'd be very tempted to read his new Magnus series.kjjohanson wrote:Pretty much this. If you're an A&A fan maybe start with Brain Boy, since FVL writes that. That strategy seems to work well for Dark Horse
