Rogue Trooper
OK Gents... I need to be schooled.
For the LONGEST time, I have been a fan of Rogue Trooper as many of you well know. So, that being the case and with my geographically challenged experts in the UK and our newly self made 'posting meister' BruceReville among my other talented Deadites being a wealthload of comic and porn knowledge... I request to be schooled, by the best.
Yeah, I can wiki and read just about anything there is to know about Rogue Trooper, but I TRUST my troops here in the Dead Universe Army. I know that I have the best S-2 Shop on the internet and while I know that I am not the brightest star in the Dead Universe, I know how to surround myself with THE Brightest.
First off, I have a few scans and I have some in black and white (2000 A.D. ?), while others are in color (Quality Comics ?)... leading me to think that Rogue Trooper started off in 2000 A.D. comics (issue #228) in black and white then being reprinted in color by Quality Comics (in issue #1 Rogue Trooper). Were the Quality Comics a compilation of 2000 A.D. comics with added color ?
It also appears as if there are different versions of Rogue Trooper. (Rogue, Friday and some other guy ?)
Also, any info on these guys:

would be appreciated. I do know it is a spinoff series about the troopes in the 86th Air Support Reconnaissance Squadron.

Yes Quality Comics are color reprints of Rouge Trooper from 2000 AD
- Quality also reprinted ABC Warriors (Issues 1-5) as back-ups in the same series but they have no official tie-in to the Rogue Warrior franchise.
Friday was to be a reboot of Rogue Warrior beginning is 2000 AD 650, but fans didn't buy it - he did eventually meet Rogue Warrior in a crossover and the character was eventually killed off dropping into a black hole. Was he part of Rogue Warrior? Part of the universe yes, but fans wouldn't stand for him to be the new Rogue Warrior.
I am not sure about the third guy - I wikied and found a mention of an ambulance driver that was a clone of the original Rouge Warrior -- seemed lame to me.
86ers I know are part of the Rouge Warrior universe, but how I couldn't tell you - never read any of it.

Yes, I have a full run of RT from Quality, #49 The Lone Clones Last Issue.BruceReville wrote:Not sure - do you have a copy of #49? If so what was the last story in it - the Quality Comics reprinted 3/4 parts an issue.
Also the 8 or 9 issue 'Friday mini'... I had contemplated on trying to get the 2000 A.D. issues but if they are only reprints. I take it that 2000 A.D. is a black and white magazine ?
Where are my UK Deadites on this ? I imagined Draco and Drift would be all over this.

2000 AD is a weekly comic that published multiple stories in the same format as Marvel Comics Presents. Yes it is B/W. Quality Comics are reprints of Rogue Trooper - 2000 AD is the original releases for Rogue Trooper - Friday - & 86ers.Knightt wrote:Yes, I have a full run of RT from Quality, #49 The Lone Clones Last Issue.BruceReville wrote:Not sure - do you have a copy of #49? I am pretty sure i have an entire run of Rogue Trooper stories in 2000ad issues as we have about 30 mag boxes full of the bastiches.
They did reboot RT later on, though unsure what issue, but it never took off surprisingly.
There may be original stories in 2000Ad sci fi special and 2000ad Annuals too, though again unsure as to what issues.
The quality reprints were awful in terms of production qualities, which is rather ironic considering the name
Quality took over reprinting 2000ad material from the UK based Eagle comics, who had great quality to them, but were short lived (just short of 3 years)
Quality comics were produced by Des Skinn who was originally Editor in chief at marvel UK and then went on to produce Warrior Magazine where both V for Vendetta and Miracle Man first began before DC took V4V and Quality let Eclipse take MM.
The Quality books were truly awful reprints with overlapping inks and colours and the logo designs were no better.
I doubt the Quality run of RT gets a huge chunk of the whole story done.
Titan books from the late 80's into the 90's did great B&W reprints of all major 2000ad story arcs and RT was one of them, again still unsure how far they got.
Also some of the 2000ad issues had small amounts of colour if the story was in the centre pages and around 1987 they went 100% colour, which is think is around the time they completely rebooted.
Hope in some way my garbled rant helps.

Ian or anyone else, what are my odds of getting a copy of 2000 AD #228, first appearance of Rogue Trooper, a few copies (in sequential order preferably with RT in it) or any of the follow on stories (black and white), pins, buttons, figures(?), TPBs, graphic novels and memorabilia ? I know that there is also a Rogue Trooper statue out there that I had my eye on a while back.
All to feed my Rogue Trooper vice... just let me know what/how much you would need for them and a Paypal addy.

Re: Rogue Trooper
Of all things, IDW is relaunching Rogue Trooper. The first issue is solicited in this December's issue of Previews Magazine.

I THINK IDW has gotten rights to several of the characters from 2000 AD and if it does well they might reprint older Rouge Trooper material like they done with Judge Dredd, Doctor Who, The Transformers, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Star Trek, The Fallen Angel and others.

Re: Rogue Trooper
This is kinda cool - I'm a fan of RT even though I've never pursued collecting the title seriously. I think i only have a few issues. When I was a wee lad in the comic shop back in the day, I used to always check out the cool covers of what must have been the Quality comics colour reprints. I couldn't afford them back then, but I remember that seeing the book on the shelf always inspired me to draw & imagine what it was about.Cyberstrike wrote:Chiclo wrote:Of all things, IDW is relaunching Rogue Trooper. I'm curious to see what a 'relaunch' will entail here, and now I just might be inspired to look into acquiring some more of the old books...

Re: Rogue Trooper
Coincidences are so funny sometimes. After not seeing anything to do with Rogue Trooper for years, to reading & posting to this thread, I just stumbled across 3 issues of RT in my LCS' bargain bin... so at last, I have finally bought a Rogue Trooper comic
I thought I had some, but was going through my collection over christmas & didn't find any.
I found Quality Comics #18, Fleetway/Quality #38, and Fleetway/Quality #1 of 'The Final Warrior'. I haven't looked at a checklist of any kind for RT yet, what is the deal with the company name change?
