Yeeee-haw!jmatt wrote:Banjo. Shadowman should play the banjo. The banjo originated in Africa and was made popular in the states by early slaves.
Then we can have a story arc ala Devil Went Down to Georgia where he kicks Darque's arse in a contest playing The Deadside Breakdown.![]()
Fire on the Mountain, run boys run!
I don't care if he plays a *SQUEE*ing didgeridoo I just want more street level Shadowman action.

Re: Should Shadowman play saxophone?
This touches on what I think was one of the biggest mistakes they made with Shadowman.
One of the best things about the original book was how rooted Jack and Shadowman both were rooted in New Orleans culture. The VH1 Jack knew the people and places and he was part of the local music scene. New Orleans was his city. Shadowman was not only infused with Voodoo, but with New Orleans jazz. "Free form improvisation in the dark." It was not only his musical style, but his fighting style. You couldn't separate Jack/Shadowman from New Orleans (well, you could take Jack out of New Orleans but you couldn't take New Orleans out of Jack).
The VEI Jack is an outsider. He's not part of the city. Sure he has ties to New Orleans through his parents, but he's never lived there. He's not part of the local culture at all. He has no concept of "free form improvisation in the dark." He's been touched by voodoo, but not by New Orleans. He's just a generic, bland, empty character. And VEI's only real misstep, story wise, so far.

That's all I'm really hoping for. Maybe Jack's just a good casual player who practices at home for his own enjoyment? I think it would feel a little too forced to have him headlining jazz clubs all of a sudden.Magnus9178 wrote:Yes, but not to the extent of the VE1 character. Since the characters are vastly different between VE1 and VEI, I think it would be a nice homage if they threw in something to let you know the current Boniface knew how to play.

The problem is, at this point, even that would be completely alien to what they've established with the character.GammaJosh wrote:That's all I'm really hoping for. Re: Should Shadowman play saxophone?
I actually brought a small didgeridoo into Canada from Australia. it was part of what the lady working customs called the weirdest bag she'd ever inspected. I also had two cans of Taiwanese Red Bull and a bag of dried squid that I had purchased at a candy store. Plus several other odd little items.lorddunlow wrote:But do you play the *SQUEE*ing variety? It depends. If my audience is annoyed then it usually becomes the *SQUEE* didgeridoo. When I first started playing it (to treat mild sleep apnea and acute snoring) it was more like the "glorious" didgeridoo.lorddunlow wrote:But do you play the *SQUEE*ing variety? I'm not sure I agree. They haven't really established much of anything with Jack. We have no idea what he does (or did) in his free time. He could be a ballerina for all we know.Heath wrote:The problem is, at this point, even that would be completely alien to what they've established with the character.GammaJosh wrote:That's all I'm really hoping for. I have played a didgeridoo. My father owns one.
Jack and the theremin would be a bit clunky at best.

Perhaps not. I do however have more than a passing familiarity with the theremin.lorddunlow wrote:You, sir, have no vision.Chiclo wrote:Jack and the theremin would be a bit clunky at best.

Absolutely yes!...at least some Jazz skills.
Here is Jack:

And here Shadowman LOA:

Both:

I wish with all my soul drawing Jazz on the books but is not in my hands.
If I can´t draw some jazz on the books,I promise make some jazz scene with a mad Jack playing some good f***g blues.

I for one loved the sax playing aspect (being a sax player). Glad to hear you plan on putting some in the background at least!

Jack will play saxophone in at least one medium...because I'm giving him a sax credit on my band's next album! =Plorddunlow wrote:Robert of the tower wrote:Absolutely yes!...at least some Jazz skills.

I'm imagining a bag of dried squid, the food re-hydrator from Back To The Future 2, and a kitchen mishap that looks like the ending of Watchmen.
