I agree in part, disagree in practice.greg wrote:People who spend all their time thinking about luge training probably don't learn about comic book care.
The rules of obsession don't automatically translate across niches.
Yes, they probably don't know about comic book care. But if they are selling a comic book, they should know learn how to ship it.
If I am selling something on eBay, whatever it is, I will check the best (and reasonable) way to ship it.
Period.
I am not expecting some of the incredible packing jobs that I see when I get something from someone here, but it is not unreasonable to expect a seller to try to find the appropriate way to ship something.
Edit: One thing I just thought of, there is no way to identify how much damage was done due to shipping, and how much damage was done from the original order from Diamond. As we have seen, Diamond sometimes ships out pretty bad copies.

Additionally, between Diamond and shipping, there are 16 signatures by people outside the comic industry.

Got mine. Signed, and basically the same condition as the rest. Shipped in a flat cardboard envelope (not even bubble padded).

Re: USA Luge valiant cover signed
So, why did they even have unsigned copies? I don't understand. One would think that they would have had the team sign every copy they had. Then sell those. If you have unsigned copies, then just trash them or something. This almost seems intentional.

When the Austrian or German luge teams ship out comics, they never have these problems!

Re: USA Luge valiant cover signed
I've made contact with their rep and she said they'd remedy the problem and send me a signed copy.
I dunno, how disorganized do you have to be to not notice you're putting unsigned comics in a padded envelope?

Re: USA Luge valiant cover signed
Well that explains the over priced shipping I got two of them which cost $10 for shipping (since there was no break for buying more than one) and minus the cheap cardboard mailer cost only $2.60 to ship. All the ones they shipped without signatures now have to be shipped out from them without charging shipping again.... I'm slowly starting to understand there thought process.jmatt wrote:I've made contact with their rep and she said they'd remedy the problem and send me a signed copy.

Re: USA Luge valiant cover signed
I don't understand the whole thing, from a money perspective. 50 copies sold x $20 each = $1,000
A thousand bucks has to be a drop in the bucket for an organization of that size. So I assumed they're simply doing something nice for Valiant fans since Valiant did something nice for them. I also assume Valiant just sent them a stack of their books, gratis.
So how do you screw that up? I mean, isn't anyone paying attention? It's only 50 stinking copies.
"Here's the signed stack and here's the unsigned stack..."
Whatever.

Re: USA Luge valiant cover signed
I also didn't get a signed cover
They told me to send a picture to prove that it didn't have signatures .. I did that today. I haven't heard back yet.
Definitely frustrating. Supposedly the explanation is that they had a stack of these comics and there were unsigned ones in the mix. You would think they would check as they mail them out.

Re: USA Luge valiant cover signed
Just wanted to add that these books weren't packed like Round #1 / Round #2... NYCC, Wondercon, Comikaze exclusives.
Seeing all the complaints.... that's one of the reasons why I do not purchase items from sellers with no feedback.
The $20 pays for the signatures. (Not the condition of the books which is not stated to be in NM)
Also.... *ALL PROCEEDS WILL DIRECTLY BENEFIT THE ATHLETES AND PROGRAMS OF THE USA LUGE ASSOCIATION*

Yeah, it was all fine by me, though as compared to some the issues here I fared pretty good.drmirage wrote:Just wanted to add that these books weren't packed like Round #1 / Round #2... NYCC, Wondercon, Comikaze exclusives.![]()

I got mine today and yes they have condition issues but I bought it for the "cool" factor not to collect. I doubt I will ever own anything else with the Olympic team signing it!
As for teh round #1/ #2 no one can pack it like Dr. Mirage can! lol....

Received my replacement with signatures. It was even sandwiched in cardboard to prevent damage. Situation resolved.

Re: USA Luge valiant cover signed
Well, I received my copy yesterday. It was packed in a padded envelope and then in a cardboard mailer. Then it was kind of folded and put into my mailbox. I opened it up and the book is in really good shape. I am no judge of the grade of a comic by any means having just gotten into this, but it seems to be in as good of shape as the comics I pick up from the local Comic Shop on a weekly basis. I didn't notice and dents or creases anywhere. It was signed as well, so I guess I was lucky. I too just got this because it seemed pretty cool to have. I will never have anything signed by olympic athletes I am sure other than this. It was worth the $25 I guess just as a coversation piece years down the road. May be worth more than that to the right person down the road as well, who knows.
